Abstract In the era of global market and internationalization of enterprises, an extremely important element influencing the competitiveness of companies is ensuring high quality of manufactured products, taking into account the requirements and expectations of buyers. At the moment when defects appear in the manufactured product, the production plant ceases to meet the expectations of customers. Not only is this related to the costs of production or complaints, but above all to the loss of credibility and good customer opinion. It is extremely important to identify and analyze the causes of this phenomenon as soon as possible, without allowing it to repeat itself. The problem of manufacturing defects becomes even more important when it poses a threat to the health or life of the customer. This also applies to products manufactured for the purposes of food protection. This article presents the results of the research that enabled the development of a method to reduce the production defects of a selected product in a glass factory. In order to achieve the goal, an analysis of the production process of the selected glass packaging was carried out, which allowed to identify defects and determine the causes and effects of their formation. Based on the presented research results, improvement measures have been proposed, consisting in developing a new organization of work in the area of quality control.

Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert’s documentary American Factory, a project purchased by Netflix and distributed by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. It is a stunning and poignant movie about how a Chinese company comes to establish an auto glass factory in Moraine, Ohio, on the site of a former GM production plant. In light of American Factory’s critical success, this essay focuses on the contemporary capacity of the documentary form to capture the specific logic of socioeconomic and geopolitical contradictions. This is explored through the rubric of neoliberalism, especially as it complicates how a story of a factory might be told. It also links the style of documenting workers to a longer cinematic history.

Introduction: Shift work is an occupational stressor that influences some workforce. The present study examined shift work disorders among people who work in Hamadan Glass Factory. Materials and Methods: Participants included 210 workers (130 shift workers and 80 day-workers) of Hamadan Glass Factory. The survey of shift workers (SOS) was used to collect information on respondents’ demographic background, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, psychological disorders, sleep-related problems, musculoskeletal disorders, and adverse effects of shift work on individual, family, and social life. Other information was obtained by studying participating workers’ medical records in the same year. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16. Results: The results indicated significant relationships between shift work and variables such as sleeplessness, sleep quality and quantity, stomachache, and diet. Concerning background variables (age, work experience, and marital status), the results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant relationship between age and musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal disorders. Moreover, the results of the Fisher test demonstrated a significant association between work experience and social problems; but none of these background variables were connected with sleep disorders. Considering the effect of shift work (morning, evening, and night) on personal, family, social life, and alertness, chi-square results revealed significance among the three shift-work types. Incidence was higher in night shifts than in morning and evening shifts. Conclusion: The findings showed that shift work is more likely to lead to sleep disorders and gastrointestinal diseases, risk of diabetes, infectious diseases, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular disorders than day-work. Shift workers encounter more social problems than novice shift workers.

Competition in the flat glass market in Indonesia since 2015 has been increasingly severe because much imported glass has entered Indonesia. The rapid rate of imported glass is due to two factors: the enactment of the free trade pact in Southeast Asia and the expansion of the Chinese glass factory that built new factories in the Southeast Asia region, especially in Malaysia. Most of the imported glass entering Indonesia is commodity glass at a lower than local products, so they have begun to take a portion of the market share of local products. This competition is getting more onerous because the local flat glass industry has difficulties in reducing the price to be equal or lower than competitors' price due to the production cost structure is already too high. This research explores the basic concepts of strategies carried out by local flat glass companies in the face of competition in the flat glass industry. This is based on the concept of value innovation in the framework of “blue ocean shift.” The research method used is an exploratory case study draws on an in-depth field study conducted in a local flat glass company based in Indonesia.

Abstract Description of the Problem In some companies, production increases and workers are feeling overloaded. Managers have role in an organisation of work and in a handling various situations. The aim of study was to analyse if a quality of management of working situations is in connection with overloading, health rate and sick leave. Methods 575 workers filled out a questionnaires in the period May to September 2017. We used Karasek-Theorell questionnaire, work ability index and seven questions about work organisation. We chose a three questions from all and asked workers: Are you generally overloaded with work in past year? Answers were: yes, frequently; yes, seldom; no, rarely and no. Does your superior organize, plans work and solves disputes well? Four possible answers were: no, no fully; yes, fully and yes, very good. How would you rate your health in the last year 1-5? Have you been absent from work in the last year more than 9 days? In statistics we used the h-square and the t- test. Results 156 workers or 27.1% declared overloading, 111 or 19.3% rarely or not at all feld overloaded. The overloaded workers reported statistically poorer management (answers no and no fully), hi-square = 7.84, p = 0.01 and had lower health rating t-test = 7.22, p = 0.01 in comparison with non overloaded workers (2, 7 points vs. 3.4). The overloaded were not more absent from work than non overloaded workers (t-test=0,005). Lessons Work planning and a solving dispute impact on health status and work overloading in workers in glass factory. Overloaded workers did not have higher sick leave and that indicates a presentism in this group. Key messages The study showed that a managers could be have important role on the health of workers. Overloaded workers did not have higher sick leave than non overloaded which indicates a presentism in this group.

In some relatively undeveloped rural areas of China, cancer is deeply entangled with poverty and other social problems. This study discusses a state-owned farm in Jiangxi, where residents believed that cancer was caused by pollution from a local glass factory and phosphorus fertilizer plant. Our analysis of what the villagers considered ‘iron proof’ could not confirm an association between cancer and pollution from existing industries, but despite this, residents took their evidence and petitioned various levels of government. Their persistence was fuelled by their resentment of their relative disadvantage in relation to surrounding villages and their desire to get the government to improve their water supply. The case illustrates how different social problems become ‘bundled,’ and how emotions shape perceptions of risk.

Objectives: The aim of study is to find out the role of chromium with biological antioxidant and how these can relate with the health of fiber glass workers. Study Design: Cross Sectional Study. Setting: Fiber glass industry Lahore. Period: July 2018 to Feb 2019. Material & Methods: Study was included the fifty workers of fiber glass industry with 4-5 years experience or time of exposure. A questionnaire was filled by each participant. Twenty individuals were taken as controls. Their blood sample was drawn to estimate the level of chromium and of biological antioxidants that include serum Catalase, Superoxide Dismutase, Glutathione and Malondialdehye. Results: Mean age of workers was 35 year with BMI 23.80 kg/m2. Their work duration in Fiber glass factory was 6-7 years. Levels of serum chromium and the biological antioxident was significantly high (P<0.001) in fiber glass workers as compared to the levels of these parameters of control. A positive weak correlation was observed between serum chromium and antioxidants MDA, SOD and catalase. On the other hand a moderate inverse correlation was observed between serum chromium and antioxidant GSH. Conclusion: It is concluded that high level of chromium in workers of fiber glass factory is responsible for increased levels of antioxidants in their body, which in long run may develop the diseases especially of respiratory tract.

This article describes the finds (glass pieces, byproducts, fragments of items) discovered on the site of former Lava factories, which were initially owned by V. Elmsel (1730), and in 1738 passed to the public coffers. Factories on the Lava River manufactured window glass by casting on a metal plate, as well as hot-glass items and window glass using lunar method. The glass composition and color varied: ash matter (“Cherkass glass”) was green; and potash glass was pale blue or grayish hue, discolored with cobalt and manganese. The factory also produced blue glass painted with cobalt. The analysis is conducted on the document that contains the order of the Palace Chancellery for manufacturing glass items on the Lava factories. The scientific novelty consists in the following: establishment of the location of glass factories on the Lava River; systematization of the finds and conclusion on hot and cold glass manufacturing techniques; description of the discovered fragments of glassware, mirror and window glass in comparison with similar items preserved in the museum collections and found during the archaeological excavations in Moscow; description of cooperation of Lava factories with the Saint Petersburg glass factory in execution of the Palace. The conducted research allows attributing certain items stored in the private and museum collections to the items manufactures by Lava factories. The author concludes on the need for archaeological excavations on the site of Lava factories.
