AbstractIn the Abelian Higgs model electric (and magnetic) fields of external charges (and currents) are screened by the scalar field. In this contribution, complementing recent investigations of Ishihara and Ogawa, we present a detailed investigation of charge screening using a perturbative approach with the charge strength as an expansion parameter. It is shown how perfect global and remarkably good local screening can be derived from Gauss’ theorem, and the asymptotic form of the fields far from the sources. The perturbative results are shown to compare favourably to the numerical ones.

Abstract We consider various bulk fields with general dilaton couplings in the linear dilaton background in five dimensions as the continuum limit of clockwork models. We show that the localization of the zero modes of bulk fields and the mass gap in the KK spectrum depend not only on the bulk dilaton coupling, but also on the bulk mass parameter in the case of a bulk fermion. The consistency from universality and perturbativity of gauge couplings constrain the dilaton couplings to the brane-localized matter fields as well as the bulk gauge bosons. Constructing the Clockwork Standard Model (SM) in the linear dilaton background, we provide the necessary conditions for the bulk mass parameters for explaining the mass hierarchy and mixing for the SM fermions. We can introduce a sizable expansion parameter ε = $$ {e}^{-\frac{2}{3}{kz}_c} $$ e − 2 3 kz c for the realistic flavor structure in the quark sector without a fine-tuning in the bulk mass parameters, but at the expense of a large 5D Planck scale. On the other hand, we can use a smaller expansion parameter for lepton masses, in favor of the solution to the hierarchy problem of the Higgs mass parameter. We found that massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) gauge bosons and massive KK gravitons couple more strongly to light and heavy fermions, respectively, so there is a complementarity in the resonance researches for those KK modes at the LHC.

Abstract In this work we study ten-dimensional solutions to type IIA string theory of the form AdS4 × X6 which contain orientifold planes and preserve $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 supersymmetry. In particular, we consider solutions which exhibit some key features of the four-dimensional DGKT proposal for compactifications on Calabi-Yau manifolds with fluxes, and in this sense may be considered their ten-dimensional uplifts. We focus on the supersymmetry equations and Bianchi identities, and find solutions to these that are valid at the two-derivative level and at first order in an expansion parameter which is related to the AdS cosmological constant. This family of solutions is such that the background metric is deformed from the Ricci-flat one to one exhibiting SU(3) × SU(3)-structure, and dilaton gradients and warp factors are induced.

We compute the phase shift of a highly energetic particle traveling in the background of an asymptotically AdS black hole. In the dual CFT, the phase shift is related to a four point function in the Regge limit. The black hole mass is translated to the ratio between the conformal dimension of a heavy operator and the central charge. This ratio serves as a useful expansion parameter; its power measures the number of stress tensors appearing in the intermediate channel. We compute the leading term in the phase shift in a holographic CFT of arbitrary dimensionality using Conformal Regge Theory and observe complete agreement with the gravity result. In a two-dimensional CFT with a large central charge the heavy-heavy-light-light Virasoro vacuum block reproduces the gravity phase shift to all orders in the expansion parameter. We show that the leading order phase shift is related to the anomalous dimensions of certain double trace operators and verify this agreement using known results for the latter. We also perform a separate gravity calculation of these anomalous dimensions to second order in the expansion parameter and compare with the phase shift expansion.

The higher order Haar wavelet method (HOHWM) introduced recently by workgroup is utilized for vibration analysis of nanobeams. The results obtained are compared with widely used Haar wavelet method. It has been observed that the absolute error has been reduced several magnitudes depending on number of collocation points used and the numerical rate of convergence was improved from two to four. These results are obtained in the case of the simplest higher order approach where expansion parameter k is equal to one. The complexity issues of the HOHWM are discussed.

A modified Mimetic gravity (MMG) is proposed as a generalization of general relativity. The model contains a physical metric which is the function of an auxiliary (unphysical) metric and a Lyra's metric. We construct different kinds of conformally invariant models in different levels of the expansion parameter λ. This model phenomenologically has been extended to higher-order forms. Cosmology of a certain class of such models has been investigated in detail. A cosmological solution has been proposed in inhomogeneous form of scalar field. For homogeneous case, energy conditions are widely investigated. We have shown that the system evaluated at intervals shorter than a certain time Tc meets all the energy conditions.

In this paper, we study interacting modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) which has shear and bulk viscosities. We consider sign-changeable interaction between MCG and matter, then investigate the effects of shear and bulk viscosities on the cosmological parameters such as energy, density, Hubble expansion parameter, scale factor and deceleration parameter.
