Aiming at the problem of inaccurate navigation and positioning of electric forklifts in a complex environment with multiple placement racks when carrying stored crops in a warehouse, this paper proposes a combined navigation and positioning system based on information fusion of LiDAR and inertial measurement units. The method proposed in this paper improves the traditional EKF algorithm by introducing factors affecting the prior covariance matrix and changing the weights of processing old and new data in the filtering equation to achieve the desired goal of suppressing system dispersion and to accomplish accurate estimation of the position of electric forklifts in the storage room. The simulation of robot positioning and navigation in indoor environment shows that the improved algorithm improves the position estimation accuracy by about 30% compared with the traditional algorithm, the new algorithm can effectively improve the efficiency of electric forklift for handling and storage, and it can ensure the robustness of robot position estimation.

Autonomous exploration and remote sensing using robots have gained increasing attention in recent years and aims to maximize information collection regarding the external world without human intervention. However, incomplete frontier detection, an inability to eliminate inefficient frontiers, and incomplete evaluation limit further improvements in autonomous exploration efficiency. This article provides a systematic solution for ground mobile robot exploration with high efficiency. Firstly, an integrated frontier detection and maintenance method is proposed, which incrementally discovers potential frontiers and achieves incremental maintenance of the safe and informative frontiers by updating the distance map locally. Secondly, we propose a novel multiple paths planning method to generate multiple paths from the robot position to the unexplored frontiers. Then, we use the proposed utility function to select the optimal path and improve its smoothness using an iterative optimization strategy. Ultimately, the model predictive control (MPC) method is applied to track the smooth path. Simulation experiments on typical environments demonstrate that compared with the benchmark methods, the proposed method reduce the path length by 27.07% and the exploration time by 27.09% on average. The real-world experimental results also reveal that our proposed method can achieve complete mapping with fewer repetitive paths.

Abstract In autonomous mobile robots, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) is a demanding and vital topic. One of two primary solutions of SLAM problem is FastSLAM. In terms of accuracy and convergence, FastSLAM is known to degenerate over time. Previous work has hybridized FastSLAM with a modified Firefly Algorithm (FA), called unranked Firefly Algorithm (uFA), to optimize the accuracy and convergence of the robot and landmarks position estimation. However, it has not shown the performance of the accuracy and convergence. Therefore, this work is done to present both mentioned performances of FastSLAM and uFA-FastSLAM to see which one is better. The result of the experiment shows that uFA-FastSLAM has successfully improved the accuracy (in other words, reduced estimation error) and the convergence consistency of FastSLAM. The proposed uFA-FastSLAM is superior compared to conventional FastSLAM in estimation of landmarks position and robot position with 3.30 percent and 7.83 percent in terms of accuracy model respectively. Furthermore, the proposed uFA-FastSLAM also exhibits better performances compared to FastSLAM in terms of convergence consistency by 93.49 percent and 94.20 percent for estimation of landmarks position and robot position respectively.

The object of research is a mathematical model describing the movement of a robot with five degrees of freedom for a warehouse. The work was aimed at analyzing the kinematic structure of the manipulator, on the basis of which the base and local coordinate systems were selected, as well as further formalized recording of the kinematic equations in matrix form. It is noted that one of the most problematic places is that the algorithms for controlling the robot most often contain local rules for the interaction of robots between themselves and the external environment, and emergent behavior is manifested as a result of the application of these rules, which does not have a formal description. Therefore, it is important to modernize the models describing the motion of a robot with five degrees of freedom for a warehouse. Using the matrix method, the sequence of constructing coordinate systems is described and its mathematical description is given, which will make it possible to eliminate this drawback in the future. The computer implementation of the developed algorithms was carried out using methods for processing matrix data structures. The principle of constructing a kinematic model of a robot is presented, with the help of which the main coordinate transformation matrices are obtained for robot with five degrees of freedom, and the possibility of taking into account the size of the gaps in the joints is shown. The resulting model is obtained, which is proposed for use in building control algorithms for a robot with an automatic gap selection, as well as in robot calibration. This is due to the fact that the proposed model has a number of features, in particular, the basic coordinate system and the coordinate system of each link of robot with five degrees of freedom are taken into account. This makes it possible to obtain the values of the indicators for the projection of the robot position vector in the initial state, in the rotation of the fourth link at a well-defined angle and in the case of a vertically straightened manipulator. Compared to similar known studies, this provides advantages such as minimizing errors in position, speed and motion accuracy. This research examined the development of the combination of virtual structure and leader-follower as an obstacle avoidance method in the formation control of a mobile robot. The formation of the robots are designed with the Separation Bearing Control (SBC) approach between the leader robot (RL) and the virtual robot (RV). The virtual robot is used as a virtual follower and a reference trajectory for the follower  robot (RF). When the follower robot detects an obstacle, the follower robot trajectory is adjusted using a trajectory planner for obstacle avoidance. After passing the obstacle, the follower robot will track its position back in formation using virtual robot position and heading as reference. Leader robot and follower are perturbed by disturbances. In order to ensure the achievement of small error tracking, a controller is designed using the integration of kinematic and dynamics controllers with disturbance observer. The kinematic and dynamics controllers are designed using input-output linearisation (IOL) method and computed torque control (CTC). The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the simulation result. Keywords: CTC, leader follower, obstacle avoidance, SBC, virtual structure.

Making full use of the cooperation of multi-robots can improve the success rate of apursuit task. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-robot cooperative pursuit strategy based on the zero-sum game and surrounding points adjustment. First, a mathematical description of the multi-robot pursuit problem is constructed, and the zero-sum game model is established considering the cooperation of the pursuit robots and the confrontation between the pursuit robots and the escape robot. By solving the game model, the optimal movement strategies of the pursuit robots and the escape robot are obtained. Then, the position adjustment method of the pursuit robots is studied based on the Hungarian algorithm, and the pursuit robots are controlled to surround the escape robot. Based on this, a multi-robot cooperative pursuit strategy is proposed that divides the pursuit process into two stages: pursuit robot position adjustment and game pursuit. Finally, the correctness and effectiveness of the multi-robot cooperative pursuit strategy are verified with simulation experiments. The multi-robot cooperative pursuit strategy allows the pursuit robots to capture the escape robot successfully without conflicts among the pursuit robots. It can be seen from the documented simulation experiments that the success rate of the pursuit task using the strategy proposed in this paper is 100%.

Abstract In this study, a Bluetooth-based Android application interface is developed to perform a manual and automatic control of a four-wheel-driven mobile robot designed for education, research, health, military, and many other fields. The proposed application with MIT App Inventor consists of three components: the main screen, the manual control screen, and the automatic control screen. The main screen is where the actions of the control preference selection such as manual control and automatic control and the Bluetooth connection between the mobile robot and Android phone occur. When the robot is operated manually for calibration or manual positioning purposes, the manual control screen is employed to adjust the desired robot movement and speed by hand. In the case of the need for automatic motion control, the desired robot position and speed data are inserted into the mobile robot processor through the automatic control screen. At the first stage of the work, the proposed Android application is developed with the design and block editors of the MIT App Inventor. The compiled application is then installed on the Android phone. Next, the communication between the Arduino microcontroller used for the robot control with the Bluetooth protocol and the Android application is established. The accuracy of the data dispatched to the Arduino is tested on the serial connection screen. It is validated that the data from the Android application is transferred to Arduino smoothly. At the end of this study, the manual and automatic controls of the proposed mobile robot are performed experimentally and success of the coordination between the Android application and the mobile robot are demonstrated.
