Citizens’ views of the political, social and economic character of foreign countries is largely based on the valence frames – positive, neutral or negative – established in newspaper articles consumed directly from the press or indirectly through republication. Looking at stories on China's one-child policy in the Australian press, the study used a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology to investigate together all extrinsic factors that might drive the tone of articles on foreign countries. An analysis of factors including newspaper ownership, format, audience, market reach and reporter gender or location suggests a primary driver might be the newspaper audience – owners provide stories that retain their audience (and advertisers).

During the summer of 1947, Eva Duarte de Perón, wife of the Argentinean Republic President, visited several European countries followed by a large entourage. This article focuses exclusively on her visit to Italy, the longest stage of her trip and perhaps the least studied. The abundance of news that this voyage produced enabled the creation of new perspectives and the formulation of new questions concerning Eva Perón, a central figure in Argentinian history. The chosen perspective stresses the political and socio-economic character of Evita’s journey, avoiding the stereotypes of a ‘glamorous diva’ that were constructed at the time and influenced the subsequent interpretations of that event.

In specialized literature different trends of economic research and theories formed within the frames of these trends would compete and sometimes even eliminate each other. In reality they supplement each other by providing an opportunity to understand the behavior of the object or the process. Different approaches in proposed theories help us analyze deeply and comprehensively the object or the process, which is usually impossible within the frames of one theoretical concept. The article studies economic character of business-ecosystems on the basis of methodological instruments of the theory of market controversy. Business-ecosystems represent inter-sectoral structures, which from time to time cross market borders, but at the same time behavior of structural elements or participants of the business-ecosystem follow certain economic rules that cannot be explained by instruments of other theoretical provisions. The structure of business-ecosystem depends on numerous factors: the choice between narrow specialization and diversification; the use of R&D and innovation to attain the set goals; barriers at the entrance and exit of the business-ecosystem. Versatile consideration of the business-ecosystem is an important problem as it allows us to identify different characteristics typical of such structures.

. “Luftmentsh”, literally “air-person”, is a Yiddish word which refers to beggars, petty traders, peddlers and various kinds of paupers. The word appeared for the first time in Yiddish literature in the 1860's and began to be used in political and economic discourse in the 1880's-1890's. This article proposes a rhetorical analysis of the word Luftmentsh, considered as an economic metaphor for Jewish poverty. Our study thus contributes to the existing literature on economic metaphors in the history of economic thought. We also show that the economic character of the Luftmentsh popularized an influential yet ambivalent image of Jewish masculinity at work.

The idea of capitalism always refers to the triumph of the U.S. giant industry. In economic field, American and British capitalism is called as individual capitalism – the contrary of communal capitalism a la Japan and Germany. This paper is intended to examine the identity of economic character of individual capitalism in two Hollywood movies Thank You for Smoking (2006) and The Company Men (2010). Exploring the theory of individual and communal capitalism stated by Lester Thurow, it can be found that through mechanistic relationship, hard individual competition and unending punishment, those all erase emotional bound between individual and corporation. In short it becomes one of the reasons why American industry perishes its superiority slowly.

Natural outbreaks of transboundary infectious diseases and pandemics are global threats posing international challenges of medical, veterinary, social, and economic character. These diseases have their specific sources and are driven by a range of factors and mechanisms that ensure their transboundary spread. The main driver of transnational spread of infectious diseases is human activity that violates and distorts ecological and climate balance. This disbalance leads to emergence of new pathogens and to expansion of geographical areas of already known diseases and of the range of their host organisms that increasingly include humans. Understanding these aspects is critical for countering existing and future outbreaks of transboundary infections. There is also a risk that infectious potential of microorganisms may be used by armed actors, including parties to politicalmilitary conflicts and terrorists, for their own purposes. While emergence and spread of transboundary infections give rise to a number of problems that reduce the effectiveness of measures for preventing and eliminating them, adequate knowledge about transboundary infections makes it possible to develop a strategy for the management of such diseases at the international level.
