The UAT postgraduate students have had diverse academic and research problems due to the COVID-19 contingency. However, their commitment to comply with requirements is latent, while quickly adapting to the health crisis. The in-person restrictions have forced them to develop self-taught abilities, to look for solutions to research problems and to always stay updated in the use of digital technologies. Remote lessons have been a challenge for students and teachers due to technical problems that limit the efficiency of the teaching-learning process. Information is not passed onto the students and the objectives of the courses are only achieved halfway. Universities and the CONACYT have kept the graduation requirements in due time and form. However, requirements should be modified to be consistent with the severe limitations imposed by remote work, external to institutions. Grant holders have been the most affected.

Choosing a major can be a difficult choice for undeclared students, depending on personal interests, job markets, program costs, and the complexity of graduation requirements. The current procedure for exploring possible majors/minors involves a tedious and time-consuming exploration of static data presented in a convoluted format. This work considers the complexity of degree requirements and presents the design and implementation of an efficient decision support system (DSS) for exploring majors and/or minors. The DSS presents a tool that enables college students to map their already completed courses to degree requirements and then view the majors/minors that yield the shortest path for graduation. Secondly, the DSS system provides data visualization tools to assist students in selecting courses that satisfy the remaining requirements of a selected major/minor.

The study of engineering geology emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, and it highlights the comprehensive cultivation of curricular theory, curricular practice, and comprehensive skills. It is necessary to establish a set of effective methods to evaluate the achievement of training objectives to track, test, and improve the quality of curricular learning. In this paper, the principle of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process based on entropy is used to construct an evaluation index system for the goal achievement degree of engineering geology courses, and the primary indicators mainly include knowledge, ability, and quality. Based on the actual situation, five curricular achievement levels are determined, that is, the comment set V = {very low, low, medium, high, very high}. Relying on the engineering geology course resource database of Xuchang University, the course goal achievement degree is evaluated, and the results show that the engineering geology course achievement degree is high. This method is suitable not only for the evaluation of the achievement of curricular objectives but also for the evaluation of the achievement of engineering education graduation requirements. This method can also help us find different courses and teaching weak links supporting the index points, indicate the direction and provide support for teachers to continuously improve their teaching and management methods, and effectively promote a continuous improvement in teachers’ teaching level and teaching quality.

Academic advising plays a vital role in achieving higher educational institution’s purposes. Academic advising is a process where an academic advisor decides to select a certain number of courses for a student to register in each semester to fulfil the graduation requirements. This paper presents an Academic Advising Decision Support System (AADSS) to enhance advisors make better decisions regarding their students’ cases. AADSS framework divided into four layers, data preparation layer, data layer, processing layer and decision layer. The testing results from those participating academic advisors and students considered are that AADSS beneficial in enhancing their decision for selecting courses.

Background Standardized parental leave policies for medical trainees are lacking, and barriers may differ among specialties. We aimed to characterize experiences of physicians who became parents during training and to identify particular issues for surgical trainees compared to their non-surgical peers. Methods We distributed an electronic survey to physician parents via social media platforms from 10/2019 to 02/2020. Inclusion required becoming a parent during training. Responses were collected and standard descriptive and comparative analyses were performed. Results Surveys were received from 64 physicians representing diverse specialties: 48 (74%) non-surgical respondents (NSR) and 16 (26%) surgical respondents (SR). Among all respondents, 25 (39%) reported a formal institutional policy for parental leave and 49 (76%) wished for more time off. Overall, respondents took a mean of 7.5 ± 5.2 (range 0-14) weeks of parental leave. However, NSR took 8.7 ± 5.8 weeks, while SR took 4.7 ± 2.7 ( P = .006). Reported barriers to parental leave across specialties included graduation requirements (NSR 58% vs. SR 68% P = .46), peer pressure/perception (NSR 59% vs. SR 58% P = .97), and pressure from institutional leadership (NSR 31% vs. SR 35% P = .77). A substantial portion (28, 43%) of respondents had additional children during training, taking less time off for the second child (5.1 ± 7.4 weeks; 0-12). Conclusion A minority of respondents reported formal institutional parental leave policies, while an overwhelming majority felt that their time off was inadequate. Surgical trainees took shorter parental leaves than their non-surgical counterparts. Cultural and professional changes are crucial in promoting wellness and healthy transitions into parenthood.

ABSTRACT This conference was convened by the Chiropractic Educators Research Forum (CERF) on December 5, 2020. This meeting provided a forum for the presentation of scholarly works in chiropractic education theory and practice. This conference specifically focused on research related to chiropractic education during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the December 2020 CERF meeting, presenters and panelists took an in depth look at how programs worked to meet program objectives, graduation requirements, accreditation, and other activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
