AbstractIn this conceptual paper, we describe the approach in storylines that builds on principles of project-based learning and focuses on supports for making science learning coherent from the students’ perspective. In storylines, students see their science work as addressing questions and problems their class has identified. We present design principles that guide the teaching and enactment of storyline units and explore the connections of these principles to ideas of project-based science. We illustrate how these design strategies are reflected in a high school biology unit co-developed by teachers and researchers. We present student artifacts that document the agency students take on in this work. We then summarize results from earlier studies examining students’ learning and perceptions of coherence of their learning experiences.

This research was initiated because of the change in the national examination assessment system (UN) to a Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) and a Character Survey. In addition to students' ability to answer questions, it is also necessary to pay attention to student interests, especially their interest in AKM questions. The number of AKM questions faced by students cannot be separated from everyday life. Culture is something that is very often faced by students in their lives. This study aims to analyze students' interest in numeracy literacy questions based on Acehnese culture. The study used a descriptive qualitative type with the subject of 70 students of class X SMA. The data was obtained by distributing online questionnaires asking students with indicators of interest, namely feelings of pleasure, attention, interest, and student involvement in Acehnese culture-based numeracy AKM questions. The data were analyzed using the percentage technique. The results obtained are 62.96% for the first indicator (feeling happy), 70.62% for the second indicator (attention), 66.61% for the third indicator (interest), and 63.48% for the fourth indicator (involvement). From these results, it can be concluded that the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe have a good interest in Acehnese culture-based numeracy literacy assesment

Graduate physiology programs strive to provide students with in-depth expertise in a particular academic discipline, often facilitating this process in the form of a departmental seminar course. Within the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of California Irvine (UCI), students are required to attend a seminar course, most often designed as a journal club, each quarter until they are ready to graduate. While this format may work well in departments where research topics are closely related, it has historically been less successful in UCI's Department of Physiology and Biophysics, where wide-ranging interests make for little overlap in foundational knowledge, limiting meaningful engagement with the material or with peers in the class. In this paper, we describe a complementary approach of developing a syllabus around student interests and covering topics that are critical for student success but often omitted from graduate curricula, such as interview skills, grant writing, and scientific communication. Results from our pre-class survey motivated this approach to the class, and our retrospective survey demonstrated the substantial differences in student engagement, enthusiasm, and perceived benefits of this course relative to the journal club style course. We hope that the success of our course may serve as an exemplar for strategies to engage students more effectively and provide critical training in diverse skillsets that will help students after graduation.

The organization and sequencing of content and teaching activities are a key point for the teaching of science, due to the time, methodologies and other professional knowledge. The objective of the research is to explain how the sequencing of activities influences the interests of students, their perceptions about the teaching of science and the learning of specific scientific notions. The research is mixed and has three phases to detect student interests. The results show that the students achieved high levels of learning and their perceptions improved, leading them to be more involved in the classes and to propose general improvements, dispositional and concrete ones for the teaching of sciences.

This paper reports on a pilot course responding to facilitating academic writing for an academic writing program implemented at a provincial key university in China. Taken from an activity theoretical perspective, it discusses the practical experience collected during a pilot process of designing, implementing, and assessing a genre-based approach to facilitating graduate students’ academic writing and assessing their academic writing competence. It argues that it is essential to take varied student interests into account in the structuring, delivery, and assessment to ensure academic success and that EAP programs are fruitful places for nurturing academic writing.

In many nations, including Indonesia, unemployment is one of the key problems. the percentage rate ofunemployment in Indonesia is still relatively high compared to other countries, although it has droppedevery year. Vocational High School (VHS) graduates dominate the largest number of unemployedindividuals in Indonesia. Creative entrepreneurs are one option since they can build their own work. Butthe entrepreneurial interest of VHS students in Indonesia is still low. The objective of this research is todevelop strategies for creating entrepreneurship in conjunction with the skills needed to becomeentrepreneurs. Primary data was gathered with eleven headmasters of VHS in Indonesia through focusgroup discussion (FGD) and secondary data collected from literature research. The data analysis wasprocessed through stakeholder analysis and the house model to create an effective strategy and decision. The study results indicate that synergistic cooperation from a quadruple helix consisting of universities, entrepreneurial societies, government, and industry is required in order to achieve 'one student, onebusiness' mission as the output. Furthermore, organizing talent management to provide the mindset asCEO for vocational students and training school principals is a way out of this issue in order to create linksand match VHS student interests and providing the growth of CEO mindset training for the VHS principals. Therefore, VHS Students can establish their own company and become entrepreneurs according to theirinterests and ambitions, both before and after graduating from VHS.
