Introduction. Over the past two decades, a large amount of data has been accumulated that show the significant impact of social factors on the health of the population. The Republic of Bashkortostan is a large industrial centre and one of the most promising subjects of the Russian Federation. Purpose of the study. Ranking the territories of the Republic of Bashkortostan by priority socioeconomic indices, as well as determining their impact on the health of the child population. Material and methods. As the initial data, the materials of the socioeconomic state of the Republic of Bashkortostan, data on the number and morbidity of the child population for the period 2014-2018 were used. Correlation-regression analysis was carried out, and qualitative assessments of the results obtained were given. The principle of dividing the territory into seven socio-economic zones, taking into account climatic and geographical features, the development of industrial potential and the existing socio-economic ties, was chosen as the basis for the study. Results. The ranking of territories by socio-economic indices in the Republic of Bashkortostan showed that most of the municipalities (over 60%) have a low level of socio-economic development. The most favourable conditions in terms of social comfort for children were found in the southern, central and northwestern economic zones. So, as socio-economic indices improve by 2018, the incidence of the population tends to decrease. Conclusion. Thanks to the data obtained, a number of the most disadvantaged areas in socio-economic development and morbidity in the child population have been identified. In these territories, it is recommended to develop a set of measures to improve and stabilise socio-economic indices.

The object of the research is centers of palliative help. The article of research is historical development of establishments of palliative medicine. Global environmental problems of today lead to increase in the incidence of population and increase in incurable cases. The problems of terminally ill patients are been dealt with by palliative medicine, which takes care of the situation of such patients and their families. The article deals with the history of development of palliative care facilities in the world - hospices. The situation of  creation of such establishments in Ukraine is analyzed, which indicates the need to revise the state regulatory framework for design. The analysis conducted in the article indicates the inconsistency of the current norms and the absence of special normative bases for the design of hospices. Current situation does not allow for proper development of the construction of palliative care facilities. In addition, the main criteria and needs are discussed in the article: Physical comfort (achieved by creating a home atmosphere in the hospital) Psychological comfort (achieved using the principle of an individual approach to each patient, taking into account all their needs) Social comfort (achieved by designing places for communication with other patients, as well as with relatives and friends. It is important that such places possess and create a positive attitude and distract from negative thoughts) Visual comfort (achieved with the help of thoughtful landscaping and designing places for walks, squares, intimate areas for rest and relaxation, as well as for the hobbies of patients)

PurposeThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been reported to have a major impact on the mental health of an individual. Healing the mental stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia of an individual's immediate surroundings play a major role. Therefore, this study reviews how the built environment impacts the healing of an individual's state of mind.Design/methodology/approachVarious works of literature on healing environments were analysed to create frameworks that can facilitate psychological healing through architectural elements. Articles were selected from various journals like SAGE, PubMed, Journal of Applied and Computational Mechanics (JACM), Routledge Taylor and Francis, Journal of Contemporary Urban Affairs (JCUA), ScienceDirect, and Emerald databases, news articles, official web pages, and magazines that have been referred.FindingsIndicators (spatial, sensory comfort, safety, security, privacy and social comfort) are linked to sub-indicators (access, distractions and views) and design characteristics (indoor climate, interior view, outside view, privacy, communication, noise, daylighting, temperature) which help in better connection of the built environment with individual's mental health. From the above indicators, sub-indicators and design characteristics, the authors have come to a conclusion that a view to the outside with better social interaction has an in-depth effect on an individual's mental health.Research limitations/implicationsThis study predominantly talks about healing in hospitals but quarantining of COVID-19 patients happens in residences too. So, it is important to find the healing characteristics in residences and in which typology the recovery process is high.Originality/valueThis paper has been written completely by the author and the co-authors and has not been copied from any other sources.

This paper aims to develop a theory of statistical observation in terms of scientific and methodological approaches to processing big data and to determine the possibilities of integrating information resources of various types to measure complex latent categories (using the example of social comfort) and to apply this experience in practice through the use of the financial situation indicators in forecasting. The authors have built a social comfort model in which the choice of weights for its components is based on a modified principal component analysis. The assessment is based on Google Trends data and official statistics. Google Trends data analysis methods are based on the development of an integrated approach to the semantic search for information about the components of social comfort, which reduces the share of author’s subjectivity; methodology of primary processing, considering the principles of comparability, homogeneity, consistency, relevance, description of functions and models necessary for the selection and adjustment of search queries. The proposed algorithm for working with big data allowed to determine the components of social comfort (“Education and Training”, “Safety”, “Leisure and free time”), for which it is necessary to directly integrate big data in the system of primary statistical accounting with further data processing and obtaining composite indicators. The authors conclude that a stable significant correlation has been found for the “Financial Situation” component, which makes it possible to use it for further calculations and extrapolation of financial indicators. The scientific novelty lies in the development of principles and directions for the integration of two alternative data sources when assessing complex latent categories. The findings and the results of the integral assessment of social comfort can be used by state statistics authorities to form a new type of continuous statistical observation based on the use of big data, as well as by executive authorities at the federal, regional and municipal levels in terms of determining the priorities of socio-economic policy development.

While the pressure on hospital workers keeps growing, they are generally more dissatisfied with their comfort than other occupants in hospitals or offices. To better understand the comfort of outpatient workers in hospitals, clusters for preferences and perceptions of the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and social comfort were identified in a previous study before the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This qualitative study explains the outpatient workers’ main preferences for comfort during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews and photo-elicitation were used. Contextual changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic were included. The questions in the interviews were based on the characteristics of the profiles, corresponding with the clusters. The data were analyzed with content analysis according to the steps defined by Gioia. Seventeen outpatient workers who had been part of the previous study participated. For some outpatient workers differentiation of preferences was illogical due to interrelations and equal importance of the comfort aspects. The main changes in perceptions of comfort due to the pandemic were worries about the indoor air quality and impoverished interaction. Because the occupants’ preferences for comfort can change over time, it was suggested that further development of occupant profiles needs to accommodate changes.

Objectives: This study aims to delineate if and how healthy volunteers admitted to simulated care can aid in understanding real well-being experiences of in-hospital surgical patients. Background: Scientific research is necessary to understand the mediating effect of healthcare design on patient outcomes. Studies with patients are, however, difficult to conduct as they require substantial funding, time, and research capacity, and recovering patients are often not willing or able to participate. If studies conducted with volunteers provide similar findings, such studies might serve as fruitful alternatives for future research. Method: A multimethod study was conducted between July 2017 and December 2017 with 17 volunteers who underwent a 24-hr simulated inpatient postsurgical care protocol. Data on value experiences, norms, and design requirements for an optimal healing environment were collected via diaries and semi-structured value-oriented interviews, focused on the values of spatial comfort, privacy, autonomy, sensory comfort, safety and security, and social comfort. Volunteers’ outcomes were compared to prior literature on similar patients’ outcomes. Results: Volunteers seem to experience their healing environment similarly to patients with regard to the values of spatial comfort, privacy, autonomy, sensory comfort, and social comfort related to contact with personnel and relatives. Less valuable insights were gained on the values of safety and security, and social comfort related to interaction with other patients, most probably due to the study design and because the participants did not truly experience a diseased bodily state. Conclusion: Simulated hospital admissions with volunteers provide a satisfactory alternative for studying real patient outcomes.

This article applies the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework to a particular disciplinary context: first-year writing (FYW). Students enrolled in online FYW courses across three institutions (n = 272) completed a version of the CoI survey that was slightly modified to fit the disciplinary context of writing studies. A factor analysis was conducted to determine how well the CoI in Writing Studies data aligned with typical CoI survey research; teaching presence and cognitive presence loaded onto single factors, but the social presence items divided into multiple factors. The authors put their findings in conversation with other scholarship about social presence, especially Carlon et al. (2012) and Kreijns et al. (2014), and advocate for differentiating between survey items that relate to “social presence,” “social comfort,” “attitude,” and “social learning.” They also recommend that future disciplinary uses of the CoI Survey include survey items that ask students to report on the extent to which they engaged in the types of social learning that the discipline values.

The article examines the issues of the modernization of the system of social services for the population in the framework of the implementation of the Federal Law «On the Basics of Social Services for Citizens in the Russian Federation.» The subject of the analysis is the legal norms governing the specifics of the provision of social services. The innovations in the service system that have occurred within the framework of the adoption of the new legislation of the Russian Federation are considered in detail. Positive changes in social policy required bringing the sphere of legal regulation of the system in line with the modern stage of the development of society. The important innovations are in the legislative requirements to the organization of social services, the parameters for assessing citizens in need, and the determination of per capita indicators for financing the services. However, along with positive aspects, in practice there are some shortcomings concerning, in particular, the imperfection of the delineation of powers between the Russian Federation and its constituent entities, the lack of legal norms on many social services, their clear normative quality indicators, shortcomings in the system for identifying those in need, problems of law enforcement in the sphere of implementation of certain forms of social services, etc. All these issues dictate the need for further improvement of some of its provisions, the introduction of innovative technologies in the field of social services to the population with the study and application of successful domestic practice and foreign experience, as well as further development of methodological and regulatory framework. The substantial component of the modernization of the system is services that increase the vector of social subjectivity of the needy categories of the population and ensure the improvement of their life and social comfort, and the fact that the institutionalization of the system of social services in the service sector contributes to the expansion of its capabilities in modern conditions.
