Fast-fashion products encourage parents to spend more on their children’s necessities. As a result, children’s clothing consumption is increasingly higher in a family due to child growth and change of needs. Due to the short lifespan of children’s clothes, the waste of clothing is increasing rapidly. This research aims to study the opinion of parents and the acceptance of children’s environmental-friendly clothing. The research examined parents’ buying patterns such as shopping frequency, disposal practices and the purchase of child clothing experience. This work has embraced the idea of eco-fashion design to examine the clothing needs of children and the knowledge of the parents. Hence, a quantitative analysis was applied to research among parents in January 2020 in Malaysia. This research contributes to academic results about parents’ decision-making on the children clothing subject. The findings showed that parents were aware of the idea of sustainable apparel; the cost, quality, design, and health issues were the most significant factors that influenced consumer’s decisions to purchase children’s clothing. Sustainable children’s clothing was preferred by parents as it had multiple benefits which impacted children’s health, preserves the environment as well as cost and time effective. For future research, further exploration relating to disposal and sustainable clothing design for children is suggested.

Consumers' awareness of behaviors affecting the environment is increasing, and many people choose to use eco fashion products. Based on the theoretical framework of fashion acceptance, developed by Sproles (1979) combined with empirical research, the author has built a theoretical framework with four shopping-oriented factors; fashion-oriented elements, environmental concerns, and environment-friendly behaviors. From the results of a survey of 450 Vietnamese consumers, all four factors positively influence the consumption behavior of eco-fashion products of Vietnamese consumers. The factor that has the strongest impact on consumer behavior of eco-fashion products is the fashion-oriented factor.

The research objective was to study local traditional wisdom of the art of producing fabric dye from fresh buffalo manure (FBM). Data were collected from rural weaving community cooperative (co-op) members and experts in Thailand’s northeastern Mekong River province of Nakhon Phanom. The study’s Method 1 added buffalo dung water, salt, and a mordant together, which was brought to a boil for 30 minutes. Method 2 added buffalo dung water and salt, which was brought to a boil for 10 minutes, after which a mordant agent was added, then boiled for an additional 30 minutes. There were five different formulas for each method using a different mordant. Results revealed that Method 1 had the best dyeing solution and produced a consistent, commercially usable, washable fabric with three-tone coloring and long-lasting yarn. Method 1 also used a hot dyeing technique in which cotton yarn and FBM were disinfected in a boiling vat while natural odor-reducing additives were added. Moreover, Method 1 consisted of either (1) FBM, salt, and lye, (2) FBM, salt, and muddy water, or (3) only salt added to FBM. These three solutions yielded a material in which testing by the Thailand Textile Institute (THTI) using ISO standards was determined to have a moderate degree of lightfastness, as well as an excellent resistance to color fading after washing. The study is important as it adds a wealth of knowledge to the literature concerning eco-friendly eco-fashion, sustainable products, and economically viable traditional handicraft textile production techniques.

The purpose of this study was to develop the design of multifunctional children’s clothing that supports sustainability goals. This paper proposes multifunctional clothing that can be recycled and decomposed at the end of the clothing’s lifespan. In particular, the Eco-fashion design model was adopted in this project. After analyzing fashion consumption and problems in children’s product design, four items of multifunctional children’s clothing were developed. Multifunctional children’s clothing design focuses on material selection, zero-waste techniques, design for disassembly and children’s health. Thus, the minimization of material diversity as well as the application of zero-waste design techniques and multifunctional design guidelines for children’s clothing design can be implemented towards sustainability in order to preserve the environment by selecting recyclable materials, promoting profit and human health concerning multifunctional purposes and international standards for children’s clothing design. The findings can be used in various apparel products to help mitigate problems related to environmental pollution and resource depletion in the apparel industry.

Due to the fashion industry’s global reach, spanning many jurisdictions, regulations are difficult to implement, monitor and enforce. Strict voluntary initiatives that focus on raising consumer awareness, thereby creating greater demand for eco fashion have greater potential to lead to reform within the fashion industry. To do so, voluntary initiatives must include clear labeling of ‘eco’ products and designer input, and include strict guidelines for company and designer standards. Standards must take the entire life cycle of a garment into consideration. Fashion can apply lesson from the fair trade coffee industry by appealing to consumers based on ethics and environmental responsibility through a trusted consumerfacing label. Fair trade was successful, in part, due to their recognizable label. Fair trade type certifications are most often business to consumer facing and provide consumers with the environmental and social information on the benefits of purchasing fair trade. Fair trade certification models have capitalized on large retailer involvement, allowing certifications to become mainstreamed and therefore more accessible for consumers.
