In modern society, an important role is assigned to the protection of water protection zones, reservoirs, rivers and seas, because they are the main areas of life and recreation of the population. In the Rostov region they are: the coasts of the Black and Azov seas; Tsimlyanskoe, Manochevskoe, Veselovskoe reservoirs; the Don River and others, which requires the creation of new technical solutions for bank protection using composite heterogeneous multilayer structures that form a leveled complex bank, will determine the rational shape of the side walls of the junction of the streams. This requires the creation of design parameters for them.

Melampsoridium hiratsukanum is an alien rust fungus which has spread pervasively throughout several European countries following introduction into North Europe at the end of the 20th century. The authenticity of several records of the Melampsoridium species infecting alder (Alnus spp.) in the northern hemisphere is questionable, due to the misidentification and confusion that surround many of the older reports. Given this complicated taxonomic history, and since a M. hiratsukanum-like rust is strongly impacting Alnus incana stands in the Alps, probably affecting the bank protection role of this species along rivers, the unambiguous identification of this pathogen was a pressing epidemiological and ecological issue. In this study, field surveys, light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and molecular characterization were put together in an attempt to solve the conundrum. Field monitoring data, LM and SEM analyses of key taxonomic traits (length of ostiolar cells of uredinium, uredinio-spore shape and size, spore echinulation, number and position of germ pores) and ITS-rDNA sequence-based identification, convergently and unambiguously connected the rust that is causing the current epidemic to the non-native M. hiratsukanum. We documented the completion of the M. hiratsukanum life cycle on its two taxonomically unrelated broadleaf/conifer hosts. This is the first report of M. hiratsukanum from naturally infected Larix decidua in Europe.

Landfills are highly complex, well-engineered series of cells in or above the ground level. Soil stabilization is the alteration of soils to enhance their physical properties. Landfill stabilization increase the shear strength of soil thus improving the load bearing capacity. Geotextiles are permeable fabrics which, when used in association with soil, have the ability to separate, filter, reinforce, protect or drain. All have a wide range of applications and are currently used to advantage in many civil engineering applications including roads, airfields, railroads, embankments, retaining structures, reservoirs, canals, dams, bank protection and coastal engineering. Typically made from polyester, they are classified into woven, needle punched, heat bonded. nonwoven geotextiles are manufactured by bonding materials together made of synthetics and used in separation applications. Non-woven geotextiles have more gaps of plastic membrane and right choice where pooling water is major concern i.e. drainage systems. In this present study, different geotextiles gives varying advantages. The permeability of the soil can be reduced to desired coefficient and also increased based on the type of geotextile used. The angle of shearing resistance (angle of internal friction) would be lower than that of the unreinforced soils. The performance of the geotextiles depends upon the index properties of the soil.

This paper reviews performance of bank protection works constructed over the last decades along the major rivers in Nepal. The study reveals main reasons of early spurs failure in five major rivers - Koshi, Narayani, West Rapti, Karnali and Mahakali. The overview finds design deficiency as the main reason of failure of bank protection works. The methodology incorporates a combination of field visits and a review of design reports, master plans. The study finds bank protection works along the major rivers in Nepal consist almost exclusively of spurs often combined with revetments in between, made of gabions filled with boulders. Also, the launching aprons are constructed of gabions. The lifetime of these bank protection works is less than 10 years and often much shorter. Designs are based on standard designs from Indian standards, developed for normal alluvial rivers. The study recommends initiating a bank protection pilot project to identify the cause of failure of the bank protection works and to test remedial measures for the sustainability enhancement of river protection works in future.

Objective. The article describes the features of works on coastal protection of territories subject to slope processes. The role of research of leading processes of destruction of coastal zones in the framework of the program “The Ecology of Safe Construction and Municipal Services” for forecasting and preventing risks, as well as providing information for further work on building reliable coastal protection, is emphasized. Despite the existing variety of ways to protect embankments from erosion, the search for new technical solutions at the moment continues to be an urgent task.Methods. Geotechnical monitoring of hydraulic structures was carried out. Visual assessments of cracks, slopes of individual structural blocks, and deformations were performed. A thermal imager device is used to search for abnormal temperatures and an electronic hardness meter that measures the strength of concrete.Results. It is determined that the water regime of the Astrakhan Region is characterized by an uneven distribution of runoff due to a direct dependence on the flow rate from the Volgograd hydropower plant. The predominant source of moisture is discharges in the form of a series of rain floods, which often cause flooding. One of the most effective solutions is to preserve the operational characteristics of the bank protection spur-pile of variable cross-section when changing the hydrological river regime. The bank protection spur runs partially movable horizontally and vertically and comprises a head spur in the form of piles of variable height; the body in the form of a floating garland of variable cross-section; the base in the form of a slider block. The design and technological solution allow blocking the coastal stream with the body of the spur at any water level and changing the angle of inclination of the spur with the protected shore.Conclusion. Prevention of emergencies, especially in urbanized areas that are subject to intense anthropogenic impact, is possible only when engineering protective structures are built, which have a positive effect both in protective and environmental aspects.

The existing concepts and modern methods of ensuring the ecological safety of the coastal zone of the sea were analyzed. The article considers modern theoretical developments and methods of choosing design solutions for special structures – various coastal protection structures (permeable, impermeable, made of various building materials, various shapes). This paper suggests a new algorithm for the choice of Bank protection structures intending to ensure environmentally friendly seaside state urban recreation area from the position of the preservation or restoration of the beach zone, which affects the environmental parameters of the site, which consists of a data collection phase of the study object, the selection of natural and technical factors that affect the ecological security of seaside urban recreational areas, the definition of specialization of the coastal zone in terms of recreation attractiveness of the coast, the evaluation phase of the current dynamics of ecological safety of the beach zone of the shore as an important element of seaside recreation of the urbanized area, which affects the level of environmental security in general, stage select bank protection structures and the definition of the projected factors of ecological safety of the beach zone. To check the application of the algorithm of selection structures bridges to ensure environmentally safe condition seaside urban recreational areas allows further justify the selection of the optimal environmental engineering solutions for the protection of the Western coast of Crimea.
