The COVID-19 pandemic has had a strong impact on education, forcing the implementation of distance learning methodologies using information and communication technologies (ICT). The digital textbook is a didactic resource used to guide the training process of students; besides, its interactivity allows systematic work, favoring metacognition and the construction of self-learning. The aim of this paper is to describe, through a descriptive cross-sectional design, the design, review, digitalization and implementation phases of a digital textbook about physical agents as a learning resource to support distance education in the training process of physical therapy students enrolled in the physical agents course offered by Universidad Andres Bello in Santiago, Chile, in the context of the human mobility restriction measures implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The textbook consists of thirteen thematic sections and once it was reviewed and validated by peers and by the editorial committee of the university it was digitalized and indexed into the digital resource database of the university, where it was made available to the entire cohort of students enrolled in the physical agents course during the first semester of 2020 (n=115).The digital textbook was successfully implemented as a didactic resource to guide the autonomous and distance learning of students during the time human mobility restriction measures were established in Chile due to the pandemic. Future studies should focus on reporting the students’ satisfaction and perception of this tool and its effect on learning outcomes in order to obtain effective feedback.

Identificamos quatro categorias temáticas: análise do livro, livro digital, uso do livro e outros, contudo, neste texto, a discussão é destinada às três últimas temáticas. Mapeamento. Uso do Livro Didático. Livro Digital. AbstractThe textbook as an object of study has aroused the interest of researchers in Mathematics Education and, as a result, specific events or thematic groups have been developed to meet this growing demand. Thus, identifying which thematic focuses on mathematics textbooks have emerged in the studies presented in the Third International Conference on Mathematics Textbook Research and Development was the objective that guided our investigation. We adopt a qualitative approach to research in an interpretative view of the data and employ a mapping in the studies published at the referred conference. We identified four thematic categories: textbook analysis, digital textbook, textbook use and others, however, in this article, the focus is given to the last three themes. The data obtained allowed us to have an overview of how this field of research has been developing in various parts of the world. Different theoretical perspectives were presented at the conference and we highlight two that were recurrent: the idea of the socio-didactic tetrahedron and the Pedagogical Design Capacity. With regard to methodological approaches, the paradigm of qualitative research is predominant with the use of videos, interviews, class observation, mapping, content analysis and/or the combination of some of these methods. From what we have found, we identified that the field of research on mathematics textbooks is evolving, expanding the theoretical aspects and consolidating some of the methods used for data analysis and production. We hope to contribute towards bringing more elements that enable the understanding of the production of knowledge about the mathematics textbook. Keywords: ICMT. Mapping. Textbook use; Digital Textbook.

Here, we describe a new open-access digital textbook for microbiology, The Atlas of Bacterial & Archaeal Cell Structure (available at cellstructureatlas.org ). The book addresses a fundamental gap in existing textbooks, namely, what bacterial and archaeal cells look like and how the macromolecular structures they contain give rise to their diverse and complex functions.

Following the suspension of classes in Morocco due to the health crisis related to COVID-19, an adaptation of the pedagogical intervention of teaching is required. Distance learning is an essential lever contributing to ensuring the educational continuity of students. In this sense, our contribution is to ensure the educational continuity of students during the period of containment through the use of a digital manual. The digital textbook is made available to students of the 1st year of the qualifying secondary education. Through a tracking grid, we measured the student engagement during two different periods without and with the use of the digital textbook. The results show that the digital textbook was able to elicit student engagement in the completion of learning activities with a remarkable improvement of 57.1% in student engagement rate over the two periods (t (273) = 11.059, p < 0.001). Student engagement while using a digital textbook can lead to better academic performance (r = 0.743, p = 0.000 < 0.01). No one can deny the importance of distance learning as a powerful tool that allows teachers to improve their professional practices in the presence of solid, quality instruction in the classroom that promotes the acquisition of skills and the development of competencies in students.

Today students live in a digital era. Such conditions affect the changing needs of textbooks as a source of learning for students. The purpose of this development research is to produce a digital textbook on cultural diversity in Indonesia with a 3D page flip application platform with a STEAM approach (Science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics). The design of this study uses the ADDIE model. Product trial results show that the percentage of the feasibility of textbooks is as much as 87 percent, which means it is very feasible to use. While the results of students' understanding test scores in the range of 76-85 with a percentage of 53 percent. These results indicate that students have a high level of understanding criteria.

This paper proposes an intelligent solution for course monitoring based on the use of a digital textbook coupled with an algorithm for verifying the conformity of the teaching content. The proposed solution allows to follow in real time the evolution of the courses and to alert the pedagogical managers in case of non-compliance with the syllabus. In most sub-Saharan African countries engaged in the Bachelor-Master-Doctorate (BMD) reform, incessant strikes prevent teachers from completing the program. Also, there is no way for the teacher to know whether students have the necessary prerequisites. In addition, constraints related to agendas sometimes prevent the holding of pedagogical animation meetings. To solve these problems, we propose the implementation of an intelligent digital teacher's textbook. The tool helps in the follow-up and the respect of the pedagogical objectives. It implements an algorithm to evaluate in real time the concordance between the courses given and the requirements of the syllabus. An SMS and e-mail alert system has also been set up to inform training actors in case of non-compliance with the syllabus. The proposed solution contributes to the overall improvement of the quality of higher education in Saharan Africa.

Technology has triggered the appearance of digital textbook in education especially in English. Digital textbook is an electronic version of printed books which has been popular in education. Several related studies had confirmed the advantages of using digital textbook for ESL learners. This study was conducted to explore the effectiveness of digital textbook in increasing learners’ proficiency in English. The study with fifty seven participants was a true experimental research which applied pretest-posttest control group design. Having two groups of participants (experimental and control), this research was conducted by selecting the participants randomly, administering pretest, giving treatment, administering posttest, analyzing the data and interpreting the results. This research found that even though data was not normally distributed, the data still had the same variances. Therefore, the independent t-test in this research used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results discovered that the t value was 0.30 which was lower than 0.050. It indicated that the treatment was significantly effective in this research. In other words, this research revealed that digital textbook had contributed positively to the learners’ English achievement as it was seen from the better performance of the experimental group than the control group.
