Edgar Allan Poe, a central figure of Romanticism of American literature, whom French symbolists recognized as their predecessor, is also considered as the father of detective and science fiction genres. Moreover, he is credited for his contribution to psychological realism. Poe’s creative work was so versatile that it is difficult to attach him to any particular literary genre. When discussing his works they often speak about gothic and romantic elements. However, in the present article Poe’s poems have been analyzed from the point of view of classical allusions employed in them.

This article discusses in detail the nature and novelty of the works of art in Iraqi storytelling in the second half of the twentieth century and the methodology used by Iraqi storyteller Ahmad Ibrahim ("Cry" and "Pain"). Also, an in-depth analysis of the extent to which the features of psychological realism in the stories "Cry" and "Pain are revealed through their artistic possibilities reveals the richness of the theme of immigration in the story Dard. Although the uniqueness of a writer's work is in the form of poetry, it is in fact a prose, which emphasizes the writer's high talent, and as a result, requires scientific work on the subject.

The present article offers a critical analysis of the Theme Song You Know My Name that accompanies and serves as the title song for the 21st James Bond film Casino Royale (2006). A reboot of the Bond franchise, Casino is credited with introducing more physical and psychological realism to the series compared to previous instalments. As such, the song paints a picture of the constant perils that characterize the life of a secret agent along with the personal sacrifices (s)he needs to make in service of country and the greater good. Moreover, it raises pertinent questions regarding the psychological effects of taking lives, whether in self-defense or for safety and security of the country. The themes of death, killing, failure, betrayal, and the need of sacrifices on part of the agent are explored through an interesting blending or interweaving of ‘voices’ of past and prospective secret agents along with warnings from Fate and Bond’s own reply. The analysis goes on to reveal the depth and richness of meaning in lyrics which at first sight or hearing might be considered devoid of emotional or psychological depth and realism.

Joyce Carol Oates’ early novel art is represented by the tetralogy of Wonderland. As a representative writer of “psychological realism”, she dissolves the character consciousness with dialogue characteristics into time and space. Oates constructed a nostalgic time and homecoming space, which showing the cultural landscape of the 1960s’ in the United States.

The article examines the significance of Nikolai Strakhov and the journal Zarya for Fyodor Dostoevsky’s works at the end of the 1860s, in particular, for the poetics of the story The Eternal Husband. Strakhov’s well-known review of Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace and the range of his writings on problems of psychology is analyzed in the article. The context of Strakhov’s works allow us to investigate the specifics of the mechanism for creating the image of an “eternal husband” in the writer’s story (the problem of the “predatory” and “meek” types) and consider the features of Dostoevsky’s psychological realism through the prism of Strakhov’s scientific developments, which have not yet been updated in Dostoevsky studies. Analysis of the poetics of dreams and the problem of will in the context of Strakhov’s objectively idealistic approach allows us to interpret them in accordance with the author’s modality of Dostoevsky’s creative laboratory. The study revealed the multidimensional character of the “eternal husband” type realized by Dostoevsky in the image of the Trusotsky type, which includes the typological features of the cuckold, the underground man and the dreamer. The conducted research makes it possible, at the present stage, to fill in the gaps that exist in the source study base of Dostoevsky studies.

I share with all the other authors the view that conceptual metaphysics without close ties to science is of minimal value, that this holds for much of current work on social ontology, and that if there is value in social ontology, it has to be in contributing to empirical social science. I do perhaps disagree with all three authors about making any blanket statements concerning either instrumentalism or realism about the social sciences and their ontologies. I argue and try to show instead that if there are fruitful questions of social ontology, they are probably mostly local empirical issues raised by specific pieces of social science. Certain kinds of pluralism and instrumentalism may well make sense in some situations. I illustrate with debates over the need for psychological realism and revealed preference theory in economics.

The God of Small Things depicts realistic picture of the current issues of the typical Indian society. Arundhati Roy has tried her best to cover almost all the details of social and historical setting so that the readers may be able to acquaint with the pattern of living, daily routine, rites, customs, rituals and habits. The book explores how the small things affect people's behaviour and their lives. During that time in India, class was a major issue and still is in many parts of India. Inferiority complex is clearly visible in the interactions between Untouchables and Touchables in Ayemenem. The novel also shows that The Untouchables were considered polluted beings. Betrayal is also a constant theme in this story. Love, ideals, and confidence are all forsaken, consciously and unconsciously, innocently and maliciously, and these deceptions affect all of the characters deeply.
