The context of deep uncertainty, fear, and “social distancing” characterizing the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a need for cultural anchorages and charismatic leaders who may conjointly and effectively support human beings, strengthen their identity, and empower social commitment. In this perspective, the charismatic leadership of Pope Francis, which is widely shared not only within the religious world, may play a crucial role in facing emergency with existential reasons and psychological resources. The general aim of this work is to shed light on the communicative features of the charismatic leadership of Pope Francis during the pandemic emergency; in order to better understand his effectiveness, we analyzed both the core issues and his multimodal body signals in the global TV event of the Universal Prayer with the Urbi et Orbi Blessing. The multimodal and discursive analyses of the homily enabled us to define the “humble” charisma of the Pope, which is based upon on authentic and informal presence, manifested emotional signals (and, in particular commotion) showing features of equity and familiarity. From a discursive point of view, the common and overarching affiliation is constructed through a multiple focus on the “we” pronoun, which is constructed through socio-epistemic rhetoric. The results show how this integrated methodological perspectives, which is multimodal and discursive, may offer meaningful pathways detection of effective and persuasive signals.

Abstract A 3 year, 23 well project drilled by a major operator in Nigeria was challenged to develop methodologies to optimize every aspect of drilling for a development project to reduce total project time and costs. The team of operator and service company personnel created an approach that systematically examined and challenged the efficiency of all tasks. They then developed and implemented innovative methods to save time by both analyzing repetitive, lengthy, or troublesome operations and challenging many status quo rig activities. The culture of continually challenging the causes of invisible lost time (ILT) that developed resulted in the creation of several critical performance improvement methodologies each of which are explained in detail. The multiple focus areas where process improvements were made included hole cleaning efficiencies, optimizing the ROP to deliver shortest well time from drilling out the casing shoe to landing the next casing, anti-collision practices to drill out conductors with a separation factor of less than 1.0, BHA design efficiencies for equipment standardization and faster make up and break down times, managing differential sticking risks, improving survey times, and developing best practices to side-track with a point-the-bit Rotary steerable system. Exact times were tracked to establish the required baselines and drilling optimization services were introduced to modify the drilling practices to reach the technical limit. The technical limit for ROP was achieved and best practices developed in this environment for effective hole cleaning, ease of tripping, and improved tripping speeds of the BHA at the end of every run saved 38.25 days over 15 wells. Average ROP's were improved by 48% in the 17 ½" section and 57% in the 12 ¼" section. The new anti-collision methodology saved 5 hours per well. BHA assembly and tool download efficiencies saved 11.47 days. Wellbore strengthening techniques prevented seepage losses and reduced stuck pipe events. Surveying improvements saved 11.78 days and new sidetracking practices saved 5 hours per sidetrack. Tasks that could be done in parallel to the critical path were identified and tasks on the critical path were performed more efficiently. ILT elimination in drilling processes saved a total of 96 days of rig time over an established performance baseline during this 23 well project. The operator set two records for the fastest drilled and completed conventional offshore wells in Nigerian history.

Metasurfaces have powerful light field manipulation capabilities, which have been extensively studied in the past few years and have developed rapidly in various fields. At present, the focus of metasurface research has shifted to the tunable functionality. In this paper, a temperature-controllable multifunctional metasurface lens based on phase transition material is designed. First of all, by controlling the temperature of the desired working area and the polarization of the incident light, switching among multiple focus, single focus, and no focus at any position can be achieved, and the intensity and helicity of the output light can be adjusted. In addition, a polarization-sensitive intensity-tunable metalens based on the P-B phase principle is designed, when the incident light is linearly polarized light, left-handed circularly polarized light, or right-handed circularly polarized light, it has the same focal point but with different light field intensities. Therefore, the focused intensity can be tunable by the polarization state of the incident light.

AbstractA prey–predator model with constant-effort harvesting on the prey and predators is investigated in this paper. First, we discuss the number and type of the equilibria by analyzing the equations of equilibria and the distribution of eigenvalues. Second, with the rescaled harvesting efforts as bifurcation parameters, a subcritical Hopf bifurcation is exhibited near the multiple focus and a Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation is also displayed near the BT singularity by analyzing the versal unfolding of the model. With the variation of bifurcation parameters, the system shows multi-stable structure, and the attractive domains for different attractors are constituted by the stable and unstable manifolds of saddles and the limit cycles bifurcated from Hopf and Bogdanov–Takens bifurcations. Finally, a cusp point and two generalized Hopf points are found on the saddle-node bifurcation curve and the Hopf bifurcation curves, respectively. Several phase diagrams for parameters near one of the generalized Hopf points are exhibited through the generalized Hopf bifurcation.

Families have moved, or have been moved, from the streets into their homes or more specifically, into their bedrooms. Digital technology – computer games, mobiles & the internet and email are referred to as new technology when they are discussed in relation to Health & structure of families and Many parents, clinicians, researchers, and policy makers are concerned that electronic tools, especially those featuring violent content, may be harmful to individuals especially youths. This article is a documentary study, combination of multiple focus is chosen. In this article, Internet, Mobile and computer games. This article looks into the role of the technology on families. Specifically, it examines how the mediated space that this technology creates matters. Technological change often creates ungrounded fears but also overinflated hopes. In order to minimize risks and to seize chances, systematic, empirical, and ideally experimental research is crucial in all over the world. Major changes in family structure and environments might potentially severely disrupt family functioning, thus diminishing a family’s ability to cope with stress, so by the advent of a technology.

Purpose The purpose of the research described here is to create a theoretically based, interactive online program to motivate adults with untreated hearing loss to seek audiology care. We describe the results of the participatory design (PD) approach used to increase uptake and adherence to the Internet-based program. Method Using information gathered from field experts ( n = 7), a program outline was generated by the study team. In keeping with PD principles, multiple focus groups and panels consisting of persons with hearing loss ( n = 26), frequent communication partners ( n = 6), audiologists ( n = 9), and other area experts ( n = 16) revised and expanded both content and design of the program in an iterative fashion. Results The proposed program was modified multiple times based on the input of stakeholders throughout the PD process. In particular, the scope of the program shifted from focusing on self-management strategies to decision coaching regarding the choice to visit an audiologist. Other specific program content and activities were modified based on stakeholder input. Conclusions The program evolved dramatically through the influence and input of multiple stakeholders as a result of the implementation of PD principles.

AbstractThis paper explores Merge and proposes a new form of sideward movement (double sideward movement) carried out by a new application of External Merge. Double sideward movement occurs in the following way: given a syntactic object S containing XP and YP, Merge applies to XP and YP, and creates {XP, YP} outside S, thus causing XP and YP to undergo sideward movement at the same time. It is argued that multiple clefts (cleft sentences with multiple phrases in the focus position) in Japanese are derived by double sideward movement of the multiple focus phrases and that this derivation is responsible for certain surprising properties of Japanese multiple clefts, some well known and others newly discovered, including the lack of island effects and the presence and absence of clausemate effects. Other consequences are discussed for the nature of operator movement and scrambling as well as for restrictions on the application of Merge.
