This paper presents a study of a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) under concurrent aeroelastic and base excitation. The governing equations of the theoretical model under the combined excitation are developed and solved analytically using the harmonic balance method. Based on the electro-mechanical analogies, an equivalent circuit model is established. The energy harvesting performance of the 2DOF PEH under different wind speeds but the same base excitation is investigated. Voltage amplitudes of various response components with different frequencies are predicted by the analytical method and verified by the circuit simulation. The root-mean-square (RMS) voltage is used to measure the actual performance of the 2DOF PEH. Around the resonance state, the 2DOF PEH has been found to produce a larger voltage output than the conventional SDOF PEH. Moreover, several interesting phenomena, such as the quasi-periodic oscillation and the peak-to-valley transition, have been observed in the circuit simulation and explained by the analytical solution. The developed methodology in this paper can be easily adapted to analyze other similar types of multiple-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) PEHs under concurrent aeroelastic and base excitation.

In this work, we consider a stage-structured cannibalism model with two delays. One delay characterizes the lag effect of negative feedback of the prey species, the other has the effect of gestation of the adult predator population. Firstly, criteria for the local stability of feasible equilibria are established. Meanwhile, by choosing delay as a bifurcation parameter, the criteria on the existence of Hopf bifurcation are established. Furthermore, by the normal form theory and center manifold theorem, we derive the explicit formulas determining the properties of periodic solutions. Finally, the theoretical results are illustrated by numerical simulations, from which we can see that the predator’s gestation time delay can make the chaotic phenomenon disappear and maintain periodic oscillation, and that a large feedback time delay of prey can make predators extinct and prey form a periodic solution.

Abstract Meteorological-tsunami-like (or meteotsunami-like) periodic oscillation was muographically detected with the Tokyo-Bay Seafloor Hyper-Kilometric Submarine Deep Detector (TS-HKMSDD) deployed in the underwater highway called the Trans-Tokyo Bay Expressway or Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line (TBAL). It was detected right after the arrival of the 2021 Typhoon-16 that passed through the region 400 km south of the bay. The measured oscillation period and decay time were respectively 3 hours and 10 hours. These measurements were found to be consistent with previous tide gauge measurements. Meteotsunamis are known to take place in bays and lakes, and the temporal and spatial characteristics of meteotsunamis are similar to seismic tsunamis. However, their generation and propagation mechanisms are not well understood. The current result indicates that a combination of muography and trans-bay or trans-lake underwater tunnels will offer an additional tool to measure meteotsunamis at locations where tide gauges are unavailable.

The dry-hot valley is a special kind of degradation ecosystem region in Hengduan Mountains. Variations of seasonal precipitation have important influnces on its landscape patterns and agricultural activities. Based on the monthly and annual precipitation data from 1956 to 2006, the multi-time scales characteristics of seasonal and annual variations of precipitation in the past 50a in the Yuanmou County had been analyzed using Meyer wavelet analysis in this paper. The periodic oscillation of precipitation variation and the points of abrupt change at different time scales along the time series are discovered and the main periods of every serial are confirmed. It was showed that the periodic oscillation of 8-12a and 4-6a for the seasonal and annual precipitation variation are obvious. The time-frequency local change characteristic of Meyer wavelet analysis can demonstrate the fine structures of precipitation and the method provides a new way in analyzing climate multi-time scales characteristics and forecasting short-term climate. The localization characteristics of time -frequency for wavelet analysis can demonstrate the detailed structures of rainfall. The wavelet analysis can be an alternative approach to analyze climate multi-time scales characteristics and forecast short-term climate variations. The research on the regularity of seasonal precipitation variation in the dry-hot valley region has a great guidance meaning to the agriculture production and resilience in flood prevention.

This work explores the dynamic properties of test particles surrounding a distorted, deformed compact object. The astrophysical motivation was to choose such a background as to constitute a more reasonable model of a real situation that arises in the vicinity of compact objects with the possibility of having parameters such as the extra physical degrees of freedom. This can facilitate associating observational data with astrophysical systems. This work’s main goal is to study the dynamic regime of motion and quasi-periodic oscillation in this background, depending on different parameters of the system. In addition, we exercise the resonant phenomena of the radial and vertical oscillations at their observed quasi-periodic oscillations frequency ratio 3:2 and show that the oscillatory frequencies of charged particles can be adequately related to the frequencies of the twin high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations observed in some sources of the microquasar observational data.

Aiming at the characteristics of dynamic correlation, periodic oscillation, and weak disturbance symptom of power transmission system data, this paper proposes an enhanced canonical variate analysis (CVA) method, called SLCVAkNN, for monitoring the disturbances of power transmission systems. In the proposed method, CVA is first used to extract the dynamic features by analyzing the data correlation and establish a statistical model with two monitoring statistics T2 and Q. Then, in order to handling the periodic oscillation of power data, the two statistics are reconstructed in phase space, and the k-nearest neighbor (kNN) technique is applied to design the statistics nearest neighbor distance DT2 and DQ as the enhanced monitoring indices. Further considering the detection difficulty of weak disturbances with the insignificant symptoms, statistical local analysis (SLA) is integrated to construct the primary and improved residual vectors of the CVA dynamic features, which are capable to prompt the disturbance detection sensitivity. The verification results on the real industrial data show that the SLCVAkNN method can detect the occurrence of power system disturbance more effectively than the traditional data-driven monitoring methods.

Abstract Piezoelectric fan arrays are being increasingly emphasized for heat dissipation in small-sized electronic devices. In this study, PIV experiments were conducted to investigate the flow fields induced by piezoelectric fan arrays with different vibration modes and pitches at high Reynolds numbers (324< Re <509) in a stationary air environment. As a result, when the PZT fan array is vibrating in-phase, the saddle points in the time averaged flow field are formed and separated gradually as the pitch increases, the remnant vortex and the induced vortex interact to form a jet with a periodic oscillation in the direction. Jet velocity reaches a maximum at P = 3A. In counter-phase vibration, saddle points are separated from one region under large pitches, the interaction of counter-rotating induced vortices forms a vertical upward jet. The morphology of induced and remnant vortices with different vibration modes and array pitches are responsible for the jet formation and flow field pattern. The interaction of counter-rotating vortices in counter-phase vibration leads the jet intensity higher than in-phase vibration induced jet, the optimal setting of the PZT fan under this study is determined as P = 2.5A with counter-phase vibration. The experimental results provide validation for the simulation study and give guidance to the application
