Abstract Oil-based drilling fluid (OBDF) is an important means for offshore drilling, but it would affect the cementing quality. Nanoemulsions shows potential for OBDF removal, but how to prepare nanoemulsion meeting the engineering requirement is lack of good understanding. Moreover, nanoemulsions usually behave badly under low/high temperature, which would restrict the application. Revealing removal mechanisms of nanoemulsion and improving nanoemulsion stability at different temperature are of great significance. The nanoemulsion could rapidly spread on the wellbore surfaces, cause the adhering OBDF to curl into little droplets, and solubilize the removed OBDF. The removal efficiency can reach more than 98%. Low temperature and higher concentration of dispersed phase both increased the viscosity of nanoemulsions stabilized by surfactants. PEGs can induce the bridging of emulsion droplets at low temperature, leading to significant increase of nanoemulsions viscoelasticity at low temperature (around 5°C). To control the rheological properties of nanoemulsions, a hydrophobic association polymer, HAAP, was proposed. Nanoemulsions containing HAAP does not gel at low temperature (< 15°C). And the viscoelasticity of nanoemulsions increased slightly when the temperature is higher than 70°C because of the thermoassociating behavior of polymer, which can ensure the stability of the nanoemulsions at high temperature. This paper is helpful to establish a generic route for preparing nanoemulsions with controlled rheological properties under different temperature, which is benefit for their applications in offshore.

Particulate matter is an air pollutant consistent of very small particles that are suspended in the air. Shortterm exposure may result in respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, throat and nose irritation, chest tightness, coughing, in addition to eye irritation. The research aimes at creating a prototype of a mobile sensor system that can be used to analyze the particulate matter pollution on a location and on a time scale to measure the degree of pollution in the city. The engineering requirement to construct the edge device includes temperature (humidity) sensor, particulate matter sensor, GPS module, and an LCD for displaying the current sensor values. The health data of the mobile edge device can be analyzed through a developed analytics system, which allows the user to identify and avoid pollution sources. For the implementation of the web service the framework ReactJS, NodeJS with Express.js, and the database MongoDB are being used. The mHelath service is evaluated through field trials: New Year’s Eve, various source identifications, and a demonstration through a journey from the subway station to the university. The paper outlines a mHealth service, which can collect data records of the surroundings and analyze the particulate matter in an information system to visualize risk locations of a user.

Centrifugal pump often operates at different working flow rates to meet engineering requirement. To better reveal the transient behavior of centrifugal pump in the process of decreasing flow rate, the finite volume method (FVM), RNG k-ε turbulence model, sliding mesh technology, and user-defined functions (UDF) were employed to simulate the three-dimensional unsteady viscous incompressible flow in a low-specific-speed centrifugal pump during the abrupt valve-off period. The results show that the differences are very obvious between transient and quasi-steady calculations. The velocity is maximum on the wall of hub and shroud, while the velocity is minimum and uniform distribution at middle positions. The transient flow field lags behind the quasi-steady flow field, which may be related to the reasons; namely, kinetic energy cannot convert pressure energy in time.

Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning uses task-subtask relationships to break complex problems into more manageable subtasks, similar to how human problem-solvers plan. However, one limitation of HTN planning is that it requires domain knowledge in the form of planning methods to perform this task decomposition. Recent work has partially alleviated this knowledge engineering requirement by learning HTN methods from traces of observed behavior. Although this greatly reduces the amount of knowledge that must be encoded by a domain expert, it requires a large collection of traces in order to infer important landmark states that are used during trace segmentation and method learning. In this paper we present a novel method for landmark inference that transfers knowledge of landmarks from previously encountered environments to new environments without requiring any traces from the new environment. We evaluate our work in a logistics planning domain and show that our approach performs comparably to the existing landmark inference method but requires far fewer traces.

In view of the serious threat of gas accumulation in the coal mine goaf and the limitations of the existing gas sealing materials, the orthogonal experiment was developed to study a new type of foamed concrete for mine gas sealing. Dry density, gas permeability, and compressive strength were studied as the material indicators according to the demands of the gas isolation material in the coal mine goaf, and the experimental results showed that foam content was the most important factor. Meanwhile, the optimum mix was selected according to the influence of foam content as well as the engineering requirement. Then two application modes of this foamed concrete for goaf gas isolation were put forward, after which the convection-diffusion model of gas was built by COMSOL Multiphysics (COMSOL Inc., Stockholm, Sweden) to reveal the mechanism of different application modes using the parameters of the new foamed concrete. Simulation results showed that this foamed concrete used as isolating material for goaf gas could significantly decrease the gas concentration in workface, which can provide a reference for similar engineering.

Based on the funding project “a concrete-filled steel tube truss type half-through arch bridge (CFSTTTHAB) with the span of 220 m,” in view of the difference of tension between one pair of suspenders, this paper proposed an improved influence matrix method for the tension of a single suspender, which was developed from a conventional influence matrix. A method for adjusting suspender tension at the completed state of construction by using numerical simulation and iterative algorithm was also presented. Finite element numerical model was used to calculate the influence matrix of a single suspender. Moreover, an iterative algorithm was used to solve the adjustment value of suspender tension. Based on the proposed method, by processing several iterations, the difference between the measured and designed suspender tension would be controlled within 6% in the projects of suspender tension adjustment. Finally, the comparison between the measured and designed suspender tension at the completed state of construction proved the feasibility and accuracy satisfaction of the proposed method for engineering requirement.
