Abstract The following study provides an insight into Japanese policies on wounded veterans’ relief during the twentieth century. During the long war (1937–1945) with China and later with the Allied Forces (1941–1945), the Japanese government established strong physical, occupational and spiritual rehabilitation programs in addition to several laws that provided pensions or allowances for military disabilities. After the defeat in 1945, under the Occupation’s new rules of democratization and demilitarization, wounded veterans quickly lost all their benefits. Furthermore, their image was devalued in the eyes of society and their voices were marginalized. However, because of their struggles, the State established a new non-discriminatory law for all disabled people. Nevertheless, after the return of Japanese autonomy in 1952, the wounded veterans still felt that they were not treated adequately because no law addressed their specific circumstances. In order to attain their goal, they created a new association of disabled veterans to express their frustration and to lobby the Japanese government for change. Because of their stubborn mobilization, the Law for Special Aid to the Wounded and Sick Retired Soldiers was finally enacted in 1963 and provided veterans with the assistance they needed and for which they had long-since been asking.

The association between the ectoparasitic mite, Erythraeus Latreille (Acari: Prostigmata: Parasitengona) and the psyllid Russelliana adunca Burckhardt (Hemiptera: Psylloidea) is reported for the first time. Larval erythraeid mites are not common on psyllids, therefore this first report adds a new host association and widens the distribution of the mite in South America.

The article describes a new association of meso-xerophylous forests in the South of the European part of Russia Poo nemoralis–Quercetum roboris ass. nov. hoc loco, its differentiation from analogous syntaxa is discussed, and new data on the distribution of communities of the alliance Scutellario altissimae–Quercion roboris Goncharenko et al. 2020 on the Russian Plain are done. Vegetation classification was carried out by J. Braun-Blanquet approach based on 470 relevés of forest vegetation, collected by the author in 2007–2021 in the northern and central parts of Rostov, Voronezh and Volgograd Regions. In addition, the analysis included 777 relevés from the phytocenary made by G. M. Zozulin in the same regions in 1960–1980s. Based on the studies carried out, the current area of the alliance can be expanded to the lower reaches of the Don River. For a more adequate reflection of the floristic, ecological and geographical features of its communities, it was proposed to change the composition of the diagnostic species of the alliance and it was recommended to amend the current definition of the order Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae, expanding its area to Eastern Europe.

The article describes the calciphytic steppe communities located in the territory of the natural monument “Urochische Kuzilinka” and its surroundings (Orel region). The communities were assigned to the association Onosmato simplicissimae–Salvietum nutantis Averinova ass. nov. That unit was included in the sub-union Bupleuro falcati–Gypsophilenion altissimae Averinova 2005 (union Festucion valesiacae Klika 1931, order Festucetalia valesiacae Soó 1947, class Festuco–Brometea Br.-Bl. et Tx. ex Soó 1947) on the basis of a diagnostic species analysis. The new association was characterized. Results of the ordination analysis of leading environmental factors for the described communities are provided.

With the development of the Internet of things (IoT), both types and amounts of spatial data collected from heterogeneous IoT devices are increasing. The increased spatial data are being actively utilized in the data mining field. The existing association rule mining algorithms find all items with high correlation in the entire data. Association rules that may appear differently for each region, however, may not be found when the association rules are searched for all data. In this paper, we propose region-based frequent pattern growth (RFP-Growth) to search for association rules by dense regions. First, RFP-Growth divides item transaction included position data into regions by a density-based clustering algorithm. Second, frequent pattern growth (FP-Growth) is performed for each transaction divided by region. The experimental results show that RFP-Growth discovers new association rules that the original FP-Growth cannot find in the whole data.

Objective: Luckenschadel skull is a skull that is radiologically characterized by lacunae in the cranial vault. To date, although the association between neurological abnormalities and scoliosis is well-recognized, no relationship between idiopathic scoliosis and a lacunar skull has been defined. We explored the incidence and time courses of lacunar skulls in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Materials and Methods: Spinal X-rays of 3,170 children aged 6 to 16 years with idiopathic scoliosis evaluated from October 2010 to August 2020 were examined for the presence of an irregular inner calvarial table indicative of a Luckenschadel skull. A total of 1,760 (55.5%) of the 3,170 images included the skull. We also explored the frequency of intraspinal abnormalities in children with lacunar skull images who underwent spinal magnetic resonance imaging. Results: The study population consisted of 1,760 children, 1,203 girls (68.4%) and 557 (31.6%) boys. A total of 268 (15.2%) clearly evidenced lacunar skulls in their radiographs; 186 (69.4%) girls(11.3±4.3 years) and 82 (30.6%) boys(12.6±3.3 years). In total, 2 of 56 patients (3.6%) who underwent spinal MRI had intraspinal abnormalities (isolated Chiari malformation-I). No additional neurological problems were detected in children with lacunar skulls. Conclusion: We are the first to report that the lacunar skull is very common in children with idiopathic scoliosis who lack any other neurological pathology. The lacunar skull does not disappear even in adolescence. Although previous publications have stated that lacunar skull disappears over time in radiographic images, we found that it became more noticeable over time in children with scoliosis.

Ornithonyssus bursa (Berlese, 1888), known as the tropical fowl mite, is a hematophagous mite of domestic and wild birds. This mite can bite humans accidentally, causing “gamasoidosis,” “avian-mite dermatitis,” or “bird-mite dermatitis” in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In Brazil, O. bursa was previously recorded parasitizing birds of the orders Charadriiformes Huxley, 1867, Columbiformes Latham, 1790, Galliformes Temminck, 1820, Passeriformes Linnaeus, 1758, Strigiformes Wagler, 1830, and Tinamiformes Huxley, 1872. Here, we provide a new association of O. bursa with Harris’s hawk, Parabuteo unicinctus (Temminck, 1824) (Accipitriformes: Accipitridae) and the first record of this mite species in the Paraíba State, Brazil.
