Flow experience plays a major role in influencing students’ interest of STEM, which is the key to promote STEM talent development. Various teaching behaviors contribute differently to student learning performance and flow experience. Specifically, this research sought to concretely explore the different influences of Autonomy-supportive (AS) teaching behavior and Controlling (C) teaching behavior on students’ STEM learning performance and flow experience. The research conducted an experimental exploration of STEM project among primary school students in two groups with two different teaching behaviors (AS and C) respectively. T-test and ANCOVA analysis revealed that both teaching behaviors greatly contributed to improvement of students’ learning performance. MANCOVA analysis showed that students in Autonomy-supportive group got slightly significant higher flow experience than those in Control group. Regarding flow constructs, both groups had the similar level of engagement, but students in Autonomy-supportive group had higher enjoyment, and stronger control than those in the other group. In other words, Autonomy-supportive teaching behavior and Controlling teaching behavior both enhanced greatly students’ STEM learning performance. While Autonomy-supportive teaching behavior allowed students to be more enjoyable and have a higher level of control in STEM learning. Keywords: autonomy-supportive teaching, controlling teaching, flow experience, learning performance, intrinsic motivation, STEM project

Pregnancy is time when a person experiences many changes, both physically and psychologically, making them more vulnerable to stress. This case happens because pregnant women experience hormonal changes that affect psychological and physical conditions during the pregnancy process. This study aims to determine the effect of group therapy using supportive techniques coupled with the provision of information needed to reduce anxiety in pregnant women. The data collection methods used in this study were observation, interviews, Focused Group Discussion (FGD), as well as pre-test and post-test using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The research design using quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test without control, the sample in the study consisted of 7 pregnant women who had mild to severe anxiety levels. The results of data analysis using non-parametric test with the Wilcoxon test showed a value of z = 2.731 and a value of p = 0.018 (p <0.05). The results showed a significant decrease in anxiety scores before and after following the group therapy process. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is an effect of supportive group therapy on pregnant women at the Srandakan Public Health Center.

Several psychological interventions have been activated to help people during the Coronavirus pandemic, and research highlights the crucial role of group interventions as a space for sharing and processing the psychological experiences linked to this emergency and the consequent changes in people’s lifestyles. In this context, psychologists are mostly providers of this kind of service more than users. This study aimed at investigating and comparing post-hoc the subjective experience of psychotherapists, psychology trainees & students, and individuals of the general population who participated in a psychodynamically-oriented supportive group intervention. Fifty-two subjects were enrolled to participate to focus groups aimed at exploring participants’ decision to participate, their perceptions on how the support group influenced their elaboration of the psychological effects of pandemic/lockdown, and their feedback on its utility. Transcripts of the focus groups were analyzed with the Linguistic Inquiry Word Count (LIWC). Differences in the use of words/linguistic categories between groups were tested through chi-square tests. Content analysis was conducted by independent judges who extracted the most relevant comments. Preliminary results showed the main features related to the crisis response, and how belonging to different social roles was associated with different ways of experiencing and sharing emotions. People react in different ways to traumatic events, and how people react may say a lot about how they cope with the event and the extent to which the event plays a role in the future. Clinical implications on the use of this data for future treatment planning are also discussed.

Abstract Background In addition to physical, mental, and social condition, ESRD and hemodialysis affect the quality of life of patients as well. Psychotherapy and non-pharmaceutical interventions are effective measures to add meaning to life, create a goal and motivation in life, and improve the quality of life in chronic patients. The effect of educational and supportive group therapy on the quality of life (QOL) of hemodialysis patients was examined. Methods The study was carried out as an interventional quasi-experimental study with the participation of 64 patients who were selected through convenience sampling and based on the patient’s hemodialysis days (Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday patients as an experimental group and Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday patients as a control group). There were 32 patients in each group. The experimental group received eight 50 min sessions including two sessions per week. The control group received the normal interventions. The participants were assessed using a demographics form and Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form before, immediately after, and 1 month after the intervention. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS (v.24). Results The mean QOL scores of the experimental group before, immediately after, and 4 weeks after the intervention were 36.99, 43.3, and 44.9 respectively. Those of the control group were 36.39, 37.2, and 37.1 respectively. There was no significant difference between the two groups before the intervention (P > 0.05); however, the difference between the two groups was significant immediately after and 4 weeks after the intervention (P = 0.0001). The trend of score change in the experimental group was also significant (p < 0.05), and Tukey ad-hoc test showed significant differences between the scores before intervention and those immediately after and 4 weeks after the intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion In general, educational and supportive group therapy can expand the interpersonal relationships of hemodialysis patients and positively affect their quality of life.

This article explores the potential of utilizing drama therapy techniques to assist clients in the acquisition and generalization of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills. A foundational DBT skill, wise mind, is introduced through the lens of Landy’s Role Theory. Case material illustrates how action-based DBT increases the propensity of learning the skill of wise mind through incorporating role-play and embodiment within a supportive group environment.
