Performance Engineered Mixtures is an initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center, in cooperation with state Departments of Transportation and the concrete paving industry, to develop a comprehensive approach to modernizing the way concrete is specified, tested, and accepted. It focusses on three components: testing of six critical concrete properties, a robust approach to quality control, and the replacement of prescriptive specifications. Many new tests have been recently developed that provide the ability to test concrete properties more easily and quicker than in the past. This paper provides background of how this initiative began. It elaborates on each of the six properties of concrete that are the focus of PEM. The new tests that are integral to the PEM process are described. The effects PEM will have on the acceptance process and the quality control responsibilities are outlined. Finally, tables are included which list the properties and the tests that are associated with each property, as well as how each is applied to each step of the paving process.

Availability and quality of administrative data on irrigation technology varies greatly across jurisdictions. Technology choice, however, will influence the parameters of coupled human-hydrological systems. Equally, changing parameters in the coupled system may drive technology adoption. Here we develop and demonstrate a deep learning approach to locate a particularly important irrigation technology—center pivot irrigation systems—throughout the Ogallala Aquifer. The model does not rely on super computers and thus provides a model for an accessible baseline to train and deploy on other geographies. We further demonstrate that accounting for the technology can improve the insights in both economic and hydrological models.

Lapan-A2 Satellite, also known as LAPAN-ORARI, is the second satellite developed by the Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) especially by Satellite Technology Center. This satellite was launched in 2015 which one of the payloads is for amateur radio communication such as VR (Voice Repeater) and APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System). The APRS is a method of transmitting messages, status and positions using certain range of frequency and often used by Search and Rescue (SAR) team. Due to its function, APRS are not only used for disaster mitigation but also transmit various kind of data such as text message and weather information. In order to receive such information, APRS must be equipped with supporting devices. Formerly, APRS utilize terminal node controller and special hardware to decode its information but those technology is quite expensive. To address that challenge, this paper proposed an alternative way to decode the information send both from satellite APRS and terrestrial APRS by using raspberry Pi to replace those high-cost system.

The purpose of this paper is to examine commercialization model of appropriate technology through the case of the LaoKorea Science and Technology Center (LKSTC). LKSTC has developed washing, water treatment, and sterilization technology in the agrifood sector and three types of pico-hydro generator, Pico-solar hybrid system, and energy remote monitoring technology in the renewable energy sector. Commercialization of appropriate technology was successfully carried out through the establishment of Kaipan community business, school enterprises, and social enterprise. The policy implications are as follows. First, the commercialization of appropriate technology in developing countries should enhance the linkage with the regional development policies of the recipient countries. Second, in order to minimize market risk, innovative technology development and local startup networks should be properly established. Finally, the mid and long term efforts are needed to increase the sustainability of the business.

In this article, the apprentices of the IDAMA Research Seedbed (Research in Automotive Development and the Environment) of the SENA Automotive Mechatronics Maintenance Technology training program of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center of the Antioquia Region, intend to outline the project of noise measurement in a service center of the automotive sector  with the purpose of qualifying  the operating environment of the technicians involved in the corrective and preventive maintenance processes of vehicles of all types.   En este artículo,  los aprendices  integrantes del semillero  de investigación IDAMA (Investigación en Desarrollo Automotriz y Medio Ambiente) del programa de formación de Tecnología en Mantenimiento Mecatrónico de Automotores del SENA del Centro de Tecnología de la Manufactura Avanzada de la Regional Antioquia, pretenden esbozar el proyecto de medición de ruido en un centro de servicios del sector automotriz con el propósito de cualificar el ambiente de operaciones de los técnicos involucrados en los procesos de mantenimiento correctivo y preventivo de vehículos de todo tipo.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Advanced Modeling Object Standard (AMOS) has been developed by the CAD/BIM Technology Center for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment to establish standards for support of the Advanced Modeling process within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Federal Government. The critical component of Advanced Modeling is the objects themselves- and either make the modeling process more difficult or more successful. This manual is part of an initiative to develop a nonproprietary Advanced Modeling standard that incorporates both vertical construction and horizontal construction objects that will address the entire life cycle of facilities within the DoD. The material addressed in this USACE Advanced Modeling Object Standard includes a classification organization that is needed to identify models for specific use cases. Compliance with this standard will allow users to know whether the object model they are getting is graphically well developed but data poor or if it does have the data needed for creating contract documents. This capability will greatly reduce the designers’ efforts to either build an object or search/find/edit an object necessary for the development of their project. Considering that an advanced model may contain hundreds of objects this would represent a huge time savings and improve the modeling process.

Сегодня главными угрозами для существования всего человечества являются нарастание интенсивности, в том числе широкомасштабные природные и техногенные катастрофы и международный терроризм (МТ). Согласно прогнозам эта негативная тенденция со временем усилится в 21 веке. И к ним добавился очень опасный вирус COVID-19. Здесь мы представляем результаты наших МТ-исследований по результатам участия в международных тематических мероприятиях, таких как международные научные мероприятия НАТО и Международного научно-технического центра (МНТЦ), в том числе некоторые фрагменты моей работы в качестве члена Международного Научный комитет Международной конференции по моделированию и симуляции хаоса (CHAOS) и руководитель его специальной сессии: «Моделирование оценки рисков для ядерных, экологических и техногенных источников». Особое внимание уделяется организации и проведению подобных мероприятий, направленных на повышение их эффективности и проведения. Предоставляется информация о новых методах борьбы с МТ и предотвращения её возможных действий. Обсуждаются вопросы использования новых технологий, посвященных сегодняшней борьбе с COVID-19 и группировкам МТ Талибан в Афганистане. Today the main great treats for existence of all humanity are intensity increasing and including wide scale natural and manmade catastrophes and international terrorism (IT). According to forecasts, this negative trend will increase over time in the 21st century. And very dangerous COVID-19 was added to them. Here we present the results of our IT researches on the results of participation in international thematic events, such as the international scientific events of NATO and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), including some fragments of my work as the member of the International Scientific Committee of Chaotic Modeling and Simulation International Conference (CHAOS) and chief of its Special Session: “Modeling risk assessment for nuclear, environment and manmade sources”. The special attention is paid to the organization and conduct of such events aimed at increasing their effectiveness and implementation. Information is provided on new methods of combating IT and preventing its possible acts. Using of new technologies, devoted to today struggle against COVID-19 and IT Taliban groups in Afghanistan are under discussion.
