Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease which indicated with increasing blood glucose level. Carbohidrate, protein, mineral and secondary metabolite (alkaloid, tannin and saponin) can be benefical to treat diabetes mellitus. Rats were randomly divided into three groups. First, control group. Second, STZ group, untreated diabetic. Third, STZ+GA 15% group, diabetic treated with GA 15%. Result showed that blood glucose level before STZ induction on control and STZ group within normal range 78,57±11,90 mg/dL and 74,85±6,86 mg/dL. Blood glucose level significantly increase after STZ induction on STZ and STZ+GA 15% group become 375±6,53 mg/dL and 346,42±50,23 mg/dL. Diabetic rat treated with GA 15% revealed decrease in blood glucose level compared to untreated diabetic rat. Blood glucose level on STZ+GA 15% group continuously decrease become 96,42±13,45 mg/dL and 82,14±9,19 mg/dL. In conclusion, GA 15% could reduce blood glucose level on diabetic rat.

Hyperglycemia in DM was able to increase glucose auto-oxidation, protein glycation, and polyol pathway activation. As a result, it can accelerate the formation of reactive oxygen compounds acting as the main factor causing DM complication. Prior to our evaluation of pigeon bean Tempe with formulations of 25%, 50% and 75%, we tested the number and activity of its antioxidant. Then we substituted it on standard feed for 14 days to find the effects on glucose level and lipid profile. The effects was then compared to that before the intervention. The result showed that the total and activity of antioxidant in pigeon bean Tempe (Cajanus sajan) was 15% and 41.30% respectively. On the other side, pigeon bean Tempe with a formulation of 75% was more able to reduce blood glucose level, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-cholesterol by 44.08%, 34.38%,35.80%, and 43.22% respectively (p<0.05) if compared to pigeon bean Tempe with formulations of 25% and 50%. Meanwhile pigeon bean Tempe with formulation of 75% provided better effects for an increase of HDL level 56.20% (p<0.05). All test results on Tempe formulation used were compared to that before intervention.

In Indonesia, it is estimated that there would be increasing in number of diabetes mellitus patients become 12 million cases in 2030. The expensive cost of conventional medications motivates people to find alternative medication. Bentonite is a natural clay which is a good absorbent and frequently called as healing clay for its potency in body detoxification. This study is an experimental research to prove bentonite which is a good absorbent and adsorbent in decreasing blood glucose concentration in diabetes mellitus. Subject of this research is 20 female Wistar rats which weigh 150–250 g. These subjects were divided into two groups: control group and bentonite group. Diabetes is induced by alloxan monohydrate 150mg/kg intraperitoneally, causing β cell necrosis in pancreas. Result of independent t-test showed that bentonite could significantly lower blood glucose levels with average value of 131.30 mg/dL (p=0.010). This concludes that bentonite can reduce blood glucose level in diabetic-induced rats.

Prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Indonesia increased by 1.6% from 2013 to 2018. The reason was that people’s diets tend to comsume fast food that contains high carbohydrate and fat but low fiber. Beside that, increased prevalence of DM also caused by the accumulation of oxidative stress. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the intake of fiber and antioxidants that can reduce blood glucose level in people with DM. Examples of foods that contain fiber and antioxidant are limau orange peel pectin and yellow pumpkin. These foods can be made into limau orange peel pudding with addition of yellow pumpkin. The research aims to identify dietary fiber content, antioxidant activity and physical properties of limau orange peel pudding with addition of yellow pumpkin. Experimental method with descriptive analysis applied for the method. The results of chemical properties analysis were dietary fiber content ranged from 1.24 - 2.08% and antioxidant activity IC50 ranged from 3.79 - 9.34% b/v. The results of physical properties analysis were gel strength ranged from 218.40 - 245.33 gf and syneresis at 24 hours ranged from 9.09 - 21.59%; at 48 hours ranged from 15.91 - 28.41% and at 72 hours ranged from 21.59 - 29.55%. It concluded that the more addition of yellow pumpkin causes antioxidant activity and syneresis increases but dietary fiber content decreases. The highest antioxidant activity and syneresis were in F3 pudding while the highest dietary food content was in F1 pudding.

This study was carried out to study Anti-diabetic effect of the plant Daphne mucronataextract in alloxan induced diabetic rabbits. To the first fifteen healthy rabbits taken and divided them into five groups as each group contains three numbers of rabbits. Group one kept in normal condition means no induction or treatment observed. Group second was given the diabetic control dose in quantity (12mg/kg). Group three also treated with the dose rate (125mg/kg) the D. Mucronata(methanol) extract. Similarly group no four was treat with the subject extract in the concentration of (225mg/kg). And the last fifth group of rabbits had the dosage of extract (325mg/kg). This mechanism of entrance was orally ingestion and the treatment duration was eight hours, after each of the next two hours from the start the blood samples were collected, serum separated and the glucose level determined by the method known by Kit method. After all the observations we reached to an impressive conclusion that the D. Mucronata(methanol) extract has significant potential to reduce blood glucose level and also recognized to be effective to reduce the blood SGPT enzyme level, so it can be suggested that this plant has such antidiabetic and SGPT reduction effect.

There have been several attempts published in the literature related with orally effective insulin formulations, which are increasing in popularity. Some of the results indicate that it is possible to reduce blood glucose level by orally administered liposomal insulin formulations, but there is general need to understand the mechanism and effective components of the liposome formulations. In our study, liposomal insulin formulations were prepared using insulin (Humulin R) or protaminecontaining insulin (Humulin N) with cholesterol, dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (egg) (DPPC)-cholesterol mixture, and mucoadhesive agent (methyl cellulose, MC)-added DPPC-cholesterol mixture. A tablet formulation of insulin was also prepared. Formulations of liposomal insulin were introduced to mice and rats orally and reduced blood glucose levels were observed. The composition of phospholipid (DPPC, cholesterol and MC mixture) was found to be quite effective in reducing blood glucose levels. The pH of the solution and the presence of the protamine sulfate were found to be important. The application site was also found to be important because liposomal insulin formulations administered through the mouth or esophagus resulted in reduced blood glucose levels. Reduced blood glucose levels were also observed when tablet formulations of insulin were administered to rats orally.
