Vasyl Stafanyk entered into Ukrainian literature XIX – XX century as a master of the short story, where he emotionally passionately violates the existential problems of an individual person, lost in a world indifferent to him, of which he is forced to make certain decisions and take responsibility for his choices. The artist’s special attention is drawn to the loneliness of man, which often causes him despair and confusion. In particular, this is reflected in Stefanyk’s short stories on the lives of rural workers. The writer knew well the Ukrainian village, the problems of the peasants. There was already a gradual departure of the rural community from the collective responsibility for the fate of each of its members, which deepened the alienation, created a sense of abandonment, in his time. For example, the village and the community are calmly watching the decline of Anton’s farm – the hero of Stefanyk’s short story «Blue Book». In this short story, the cry of the soul of a once wealthy owner, who was unlucky, who in despair drinks the whole farm. In his drunken bravado there is sadness, rage and hopelessness, deep despair – Anton feels that everyone is indifferent to his grief, there is no compassion in his home community. Such loneliness, alienation and despair of man, indifference of others permeate the pages and short stories «Paliy». Its protagonist, old Fedor, worked all his life for the rich Andriy Kurochka, lost his strength and health on his farm, and is now forced to beg from strangers. The thought of this hurts Fedor’s aching soul, he goes mad with loneliness, deeply offends his human indifference. In despair, deeply offended, lonely in his grief, Fedor sets fire to the hen’s barn, taking revenge on him for his mutilated life. The lyrical hero of V. Stefanyk’s short story «My Word» chooses a different way of reacting to unfavorable life circumstances from the previous character. It is the confession of a lonely, abandoned man in a world indifferent to the fate of everyone. Detached from his native land, the hero of the novel doesn’t find peace and joy in the new world. His longing comrades, who agreed with this new world, don’t understand him. So, abandoned by them, he builds himself a world of his own imagination, in which he is comfortable and where he truly lives, hoping to find happiness. Accordingly, the author of the short story convinces that everyone is lonely and doomed to fight for their happiness, and therefore responsible for their choices. Very often Vasyl Stefanyk addresses the topic of lonely old age, when adult children become busy with their worries and do not need their parents, as, for example, in the short story «Angel», where old Tymchykha, feeling unnecessary for children, prepares for death as a salvation from loneliness. The writer raises a similar theme of loneliness of old parents with living children in such short stories as, in particular, «Sama samisinka», which depicts a gruesome picture of the death of a helpless mother left to fend for her children who went to work. The other side of lonely old age depicts the image of old Maxim, who can’t forget his dead sons. A lone widower who sent two sons to fight for Ukraine, he complains about his fate, rages in the field at work, shouts at the horses. At the same time, in despair, Maxim doesn’t accept any sympathy from neighbors, proudly carries his loneliness and despair, lamenting the whole world. He is disgusted by everything around him, he lives only by memories of the past, when his sons and wife were alive, when life was raging in his house. Thus, as we can see, many of Vasyl Stefanyk’s short stories are imbued with existential problems of man concerning the negative nature of human existence. Among them the loneliness and despair of the person in difficult life situations are especially penetratingly considered by the writer.

Love and death is a common and shared human experience that many poets of the ancient world explored in their various poetic works. The elegists of Rome famously wrote love poems in which each pined for a specific mistress or lover, and in some of these poems, love and death were simultaneously prominent themes. In this article I examine the relationship between the concepts of love and death in Propertius 4.7, Tibullus 1.3 and Ovid’s Amores 3.9. From this study it is evident that each poet, through means of their own style, depicted the ideal that love had the ability to overcome death. To support my analysis of these texts and the issues surrounding them, I refer to Papanghelis, Hinds and Maltby. While these authors consider many aspects of Proptertius’, Tibullus’ and Ovid’s works, the relationship and connection present between love and death has not been significantly considered. In order to establish each poet’s personal style I begin with a brief overview of elegiac poetry; then, an examination of each poem’s tone, word usage and thematic distinctions. I will begin the discussion with Propertius’ poems; Tibullus’ and Ovid’s poems will then be considered, first separately, and then as a pair. The concepts of love, death and those affected by the death in the poem will be analyzed. In addition, I will consider how love and death interact with each other in the poems. To further supplement the discussion, I will analyze how these three poets’ write in the same genre and about the same topics, but in different contexts and styles. This analysis leads to an understanding that each poet expressed their unique style in their poems, while maintaining a similar theme and genre, that love has the ability to overcome the unavoidable and inevitable force of death.

China and the United States share significant differences in social ideology and cultural backgrounds, resulting in many differences in narrative, humanistic expression, communication and target market positioning of films with the similar theme. This essay takes The Captain and Sully as examples. Through analysis and summary, the writer finds that the differences in social ideology and cultural background have an impact on the narrative tactic, target market, the production, and the circulation strategy of films. For example, at the narrative theme level, The Captain is country-centered, while Sully pays more attention to the inner changes of the characters. In terms of production, The Captain pays more attention to the excitement brought to the audience watching the movie, while Sully pays more attention to the movie story itself. In the choice of target market, the target market of The Captain is positioned in China, while Sully positioned in the world. The distinctive choices of plot and theme of the two films reflect the differences in cultures and ideologies of the two countries. The purpose of this essay is to provide film workers with new creative ideas through analysis, and to lead readers to think.

Ever since Charles Goodwin’s seminal works on gaze, there has been a long-standing interest in Conversation Analysis in the interrelationship between talk and bodily conduct in the accomplishment of social action. Recently, a small but emerging body of research has explored the ways in which embodied conduct figures in the organization and operations of repair. In this article, I take up a similar theme and investigate the interaction between talk and iconic gestures in same-turn self-initiated repair in Mandarin conversation. The phenomenon I examine concerns the use of what I call “gestural repair.” The analysis focuses on how such repair can intertwine with talk in multi-stage operations in the progressivity and resolution of repair. The data are drawn from 50 hours of naturally-occurring conversations collected in China. Some unique features of such gestural repair observed in the Mandarin data are also discussed.

Abu al-Hasan ‘Ali al-Nadwi (later al-Nadwi) was a famous Islamic scholar during his life in the 90s. He is known for his efforts to solve the problems faced by Muslims. Among al-Nadwi’s approaches is the call for Muslims to reappreciate the sources of Islamic history, especially al-sirah al-nabawiyyah (biography of the prophet). Al-Nadwi’s efforts to produce literary works on al-sirah al-nabawiyyah highlighted his thought that al-sirah al-nabawiyyah should be considered as one of the important sources of knowledge. Al-Nadwi was not only produced the work of al-sirah al-nabawiyyah for adults but also wrote several works on the similar theme for children. Based on these facts, this article will unravel al-Nadwi’s views which highlights the importance of al-sirah al-nabawiyyah in the process of educating children. This article analyses al-Nadwi’s views on al-sirah al-nabawiyyah through textual analysis method. As a result, this article discovers that al-Nadwi’s views of al-sirah al-nabawiyyah is based on his stand that Muslims should utilize the source of authoritative knowledge in Islam. In addition, children should be kept away from reading materials that contain elements of superstitions. The content of reading material featuring the prophets as role models should be given priority in the effort to form a good personality for children. Therefore, al-sirah al-nabawiyyah needs to be exposed to children because it is an important requirement to educate them with Islamic education. Keywords: Prophetic Biography, al-Nadwi, Islamic Thought, The Story of Prophets, Islamic Personality Abstrak Abu al-Hasan ‘Ali al-Nadwi (seterusnya al-Nadwi) merupakan seorang sarjana Islam yang terkenal ketika hayatnya pada era 90-an. Abstract: To contribute to the comprehension of the painting of Diego Velázquez is the main objective of this study, is to point out some of the latent sevillian roots that the artist kept in his extensive Madrid's stage. In this logic, I would like to analyze the relationships arising from the comparison of the table that represents to San Pablo Ermitaño y San Antonio by Pedro de Campaña, and the painting of Velázquez with a similar theme: Encuentro de San Antonio Abad con San Pablo, primer ermitaño.

Livestock, although it has significant economic relevance, is the cause of several problems related to erosion. This fact becomes even more worrying in the context of a hydrographic basin. Thus, the objective of this work was to assess the natural vulnerability to erosion in the pasture areas of the hydrographic sub-basin of the Santa Cruz stream (HBSCS), in order to support improvements related to soil conservation associated with local economic productivity. The procedures took place with the aid of the ArcGIS® geographic information system. The cartographic databases were the websites of GEOBASES, the National Water Agency and the Jones dos Santos Neves Institute. Initially, HBSCS was delimited to later acquire features (vector files) related to the location of pastures covered by HBSCS. The Universal Soil Loss Equation was used to estimate potential erosion. For this, the following data were obtained: erosivity, erodibility, ramp length and slope. Erosion was mapped, quantified and classified. The natural intensity of erosion ranges from 0 ton/ha.year to 6814 ton/ha.year, with an arithmetic mean of 569.740 ton/ha.year and standard deviation equal to 345.013 ton/ha.year. The class with the highest intensity is “moderate to strong”. However, when combined, the “moderate to strong” and “strong” classes comprise 65.666%. The lower intensity classes, “weak” and “moderate”, together, represent only 33.652%. The values can be attributed, mainly, to the ignorance on the part of the rural producers about the most favorable places for the installation of pastures. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to adopt measures favorable to soil conservation, such as the correct management of livestock, especially in areas with a greater erosive tendency. It is expected that studies with a similar theme will continue, considering, for example, the influence of management on HBSCS erosion.

The time poem in Eccl 3.1–8 reflects a marked structure and progression of themes. These connections suggest that the initial lines of vv. 2, 5, and 8 open their respective stanzas by focusing on a similar theme: war and peace. This thread clarifies the meaning of Qohelet’s enigmatic throwing and gathering stones, activities for which no fewer than nine interpretations have been suggested. While interpreters have favored a reference to sexual intercourse, this view is unlikely. I contend that a preferable solution modifies an earlier interpretation relating the throwing and gathering of stones to acts of wartime and peacetime. The throwing away of stones relates to the demobilization of the military, while the gathering of stones relates to the mobilization for war (1 Sam 17.40; 2 Chron 26.14–15). This interpretation offers a more consistent approach to the themes of war and peace developed in the poem’s stanzas.
