The criminal profiling technique, developed in the second half of the last century, has proved to be a useful resource as an investigative technique, especially when conventional techniques have not been productive and is closely associated with the Behavioral Sciences and with Forensic Criminology, being used to direct to investigate by reducing the number of suspects in a crime. Among the various methodologies available, the Crime Scene Analysis stands out, popularly known as the “FBI Method”, developed by agents from the Behavioral Science Unit (BSU - Behavioral Science Unit) of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation, an organ American investigation agency of federal autarchy, which has certain similarities to the Federal Police of Brazil) from the 1980s. In this article, the application of such methodology for the initial characterization of the criminal profile of homicide suspects ant authors in the city of São Paulo through the study of real cases in which the author worked, performing the examination of the crime scene.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive investigative technique that is used to obtain high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) images of biological structures. This method is useful in diagnosing diseases of specific organs like the eye, where a direct biopsy cannot be conducted. Since its inception, significant advancements have been made in its technology. Apart from its initial application in ophthalmology for retinal imaging, substantial technological innovations in OCT brought by the research community have enabled its utilization beyond its original scope and allowed its application in many new clinical areas. This review presents a summary of the clinical applications of OCT in the field of medicine (ophthalmology, cardiology, otology, and dermatology) and dentistry (tissue imaging, detection of caries, analysis of dental polymer composite restorations, imaging of root canals, and diagnosis of oral cancer). In addition, potential advantages and disadvantages of OCT are also discussed.

AbstractThe current scenario of radiological imaging of the maxillofacial region is a far cry from its humble beginnings. Rapid strides have been made over the years, with Radiology having made an immense impact on the practice of maxillofacial surgery. These advances in imaging, play a vital role not only in the diagnosis of maxillofacial disease conditions but also in the planning and implementation of appropriate and timely treatment. Since Radiology has a crucial role to play in the practice of maxillofacial surgery it is essential that a MFS should have basic understanding of the core concepts of different imaging techniques, their similarities and differences and should also be able to comprehend how imaging helps both diagnosing the clinical condition of a patient as well as management of the same.Chest Radiography and High-Resolution Ultrasound of the cheek are two imaging techniques, that are both useful and of interest to the MFS and so have been discussed in elaboration. Chest radiographs are one of the imaging investigations most frequently requested for and is of prime importance in many patient pathways. High resolution ultrasound too has a wide range of applications in the maxillofacial region, of which cheek imaging is of paramount importance. There being a paucity in existing literature on this newer investigative technique, this writeup is aimed both at creating awareness about it among maxillofacial surgeons and also at conveying the important role it plays in the management of MFS patients.

Small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) have an essential role in every economy, being prepared to build jobs, support the progress of the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP), leave improvement and improve other economic exercises. The research explores the impact of various financial variables on the financial results of SMEs. The study is based on an investigative technique using a sample of selected small and medium-sized enterprises in Chittoor, AP. 66 SMEs were taken as a sample. This paper was used to test hypothetical relationships using the non-parametric Pearson chi-square test and Pearson's correlation method. The after-effects of the non-parametric test demonstrate the statistical consequences for financial variables and the efficiency of SMEs. The test strongly stipulates that financial management rehearsals, policymakers, accomplices for improving, SME owners and managers may use these results in Andhra Pradesh to develop their business.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the nature and forms of investigative discourse that appears in James Joyce’s novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. On one hand, we shall explore the manner in which elements of investigative discourse such as supervision, interrogation, system of punishment, and confession are used in order to maintain the discipline society in Ireland at the beginning of the 20th century. On the other hand, we will analyse the possibility of using investigative discourse with the purpose of annulling repression and achieving individual liberty. The character of Stephen Dedalus will serve as an example so as to show how an individual can apply the process of self-interrogation as investigative technique in order to attempt to liberate themselves from the influence of religion and nationalism and become independent. Both Joyce and his protagonist Stephen believe that art enables us to achieve freedom through the process of artistic creation. In this paper, we shall attempt to demonstrate that art is only an illusion of freedom: instead of liberating us, it only captures us even stronger into a trap of supervision, control and discipline. Believing that art leads us to final liberation, we accept its postulates and consequently become limited by them. Therefore, the consequence of our acceptance is not freedom but voluntary submission.

The article by Kocsis and Palermo, published in 2016, examined the findings of research which had assessed the validity of the investigative technique colloquially known as criminal profiling. These findings were subsequently considered within the framework of their relevance to the admissibility of the technique as a form of expert witness evidence. The overall conclusion was that a discrete facet of the profiling technique may satisfy some of the requisite legal criteria for admissibility in jurisdictions within the United States. However, this conclusion was based upon studies which used samples of senior forensic psychiatrists and psychologists as the tested profilers. In this regard, it was noted that this parameter may preclude the generalization of this conclusion to other professional groups who do not possess such qualifications. Accordingly, the present article explores the potential admissibility of law enforcement personnel who are not qualified forensic mental health practitioners tendering expert witness evidence in the nature of criminal profiling. The conclusion of this analysis is that law enforcement personnel who possess suitable expertise in the analytic task of criminal profiling arguably possess an analogous knowledge base akin to the aforementioned senior forensic psychiatrists and psychologists. On this basis, the conclusions in Kocsis and Palermo, published in 2016, may extend to such personnel and their potential to likewise provide expert witness evidence.
