Competitiveness is becoming more and more a regional issue-oriented to meet the needs of the economy and citizens, so economic development is essential for the survival of all cities. Economic growth, made because of an economic development plan, brings new capital to city governments by expanding the tax base to further develop as well as improve the quality of life in general. This paper aims to examine the advantages that the city of Prishtina may have in correlation with the capitals of other Southeast European countries to identify the possibilities of what different strategies and concepts have been developed and used to make a valuable crossroads and short-term and long-term effects from a cultural, economic, social and political point of view.

The development of a coherent and coordinated policy for the management of large socio-agricultural systems, such as the Mekong delta in southern Vietnam, is reliant on aligning the development, delivery, and implementation of policy on national to local scales. Effective decision making is linked to a coherent, broadly-shared vision of the strategic management of socio-agricultural systems. However, when policies are ambiguous, and at worst contradictory, long-term management and planning can consequently suffer. These potential adverse impacts may be compounded if stakeholders have divergent visions of the current and future states of socio-agricultural systems. Herein we used a transferable, scenario-based methodology which uses a standard quadrant matrix in order to explore both anticipated and idealized future states. Our case study was the Mekong delta. The scenario matrix was based upon two key strategic choices (axis) for the delta, derived from analysis of policy documents, literature, stakeholder engagement, and land use models. These are: (i) who will run agriculture in the future, agri-business or the established commune system; and (ii) to what degree sustainability will be incorporated into production. During a workshop meeting, stakeholders identified that agri-business will dominate future agricultural production in the delta but showed a clear concern that sustainability might consequently be undermined despite policy claims of the contrary. As such, our study highlights an important gap between national expectations and regional perspectives. Our results suggest that the new development plans for the Mekong delta (which comprise a new Master Plan and a new 5-year socio-economic development plan), which emphasize agro-business development, should adopt approaches that address concerns of sustainability as well as a more streamlined policy formulation and implementation that accounts for stakeholder concerns at both provincial and national levels.

Private developers seek to locate their projects within a specific region. Local governments try to attract those businesses by offering tax incentives. In order to extract favorable terms from local governments, developers sometimes threaten to relocate or abandon their project. Seeking to minimize the overall harm to the community if the threats are realized, local governments will simply approve what was demanded by developers. Using survey data from across the U.S., I investigate the kinds of threats that are made by developers in an attempt to push local governments to compete against each other for projects and which factors make it more likely that those threats will succeed. The logistic regression model revealed that municipalities with inter-municipal cooperation and public participation in real estate development projects are more likely to decrease the chance of private developers’ threats succeeding. Conversely, neither having economic development staff nor an economic development plan did.

We cannot realistically discuss development without factoring religion into the analysis. In the same way, we cannot design any economic development plan without acknowledging the influence of religion on its implementation. The fact is that, many economic development policies require a change from old values, attitudes, beliefs and behaviour patterns of the citizenry to those that are supportive of the new policy. Religious practices and beliefs have important consequences for the economic development of a community or nation. The relationship between religion and development is likely to be complementary as long as religious beliefs and practices promote ‘moderation’ rather than ‘extremes.’ This article therefore discusses how Pentecostalism has been used as a reference point in addressing religio-cultural and socio-economic needs of Africans. The study uses Spiritual capital theory and pneuma-diaconal mission theory to unearth the impact of African Pentecostalism in the socio-economic lives of Ghanaians and more especially Africans.

China's peaceful ascent has had a significant impact on the global economic system. There are two major reasons for this: the first and most important is Beijing's peaceful expansionist policies, and the second is its advanced industries and technologies. Their goal is to dominate global raw materials as well as the market through their goods. China has been working hard to promote built-and-road policies around the world in order to attain these aims, but it is also confronting various intra- and inter-level possibilities and obstacles. The purpose of this article is to analyse the Built-Road and the Sino-Pak economic corridor in general, as well as the obstacles and prospects for China's Xinjiang province in particular. Xinjiang's ambitious economic development plan calls for more than $8 billion in spending over the next five years alone. Its goal is to fully integrate Xinjiang into China's booming economy and absorb its people as equal citizens of the multi-ethnic state ruled by Beijing.

The pathways of Nepal's inclusive development date long back. Since the inception of periodic economic development plan in the middle of the fifties, the country has been enduring goals for reforming just and equitable society. In the successive periodic plans, the objectives sharpened further. Yet, the country endorsed inclusive strategies and policies in par with global trends since the tenth plan (2002-2007). In this respect, this paper shortly reviews the concept of inclusive growth and inclusive development and juxtaposes these to elucidate factors causing Nepal's inclusive development. It analyses the country's macro-economic indicators to scrutinize them for their role in ensuring inclusive growth and development. The paper concludes that the country's fluctuating, polarized growth and weakening macro-economic indicators have been posing challenges to the inclusive development.
