This study analyzes people’s bag usage before and after the introduction of the tougher 2021 plastics ban policies by counting the number of charged carrier bags, inner bags, old plastic bags, and reusable bags used by consumers at the exits of the investigated supermarkets in Shanghai, China. The results indicate positive effects of the tougher 2021 measures by observing significantly decreased usage of charged carrier bags by 46%, and significantly increased usage of old plastic bags and reusable bags by 117% and 36%, respectively. Policy execution loopholes are found in some supermarkets which do not follow the tougher plastics ban measures. Fortunately, the spill-over effects from tougher-measure-executing supermarkets fix this issue to some extent. Additionally, the tougher 2021 measures fail to be the most powerful impacting factor on people’s usage of each type of bag. To produce better plastics reducing results, other bag-targeted measures are necessary.

Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, and excessive serum uric acid can cause gouty arthritis and uric acid nephropathy. Therefore, lowering the uric acid level and alleviating inflammation in the body are the key points to treating these diseases. A stable nanosuspension of peptide BmK9 was prepared by the precipitation-ultrasonication method. By combining uricase on the surface of a positively charged carrier, a complex consisting of neutral rod-shaped BmK9 and uricase nanoparticles (Nplex) was formed to achieve the delivery of BmK9 and uricase, respectively. The formulation of Nplex has a diameter of 180 nm and drug loading up to 200%, which releases BmK9 and uricase slowly and steadily in drug release tests in vitro. There was significantly improved pharmacokinetic behavior of the two drugs because Nplex prolonged the half-life and increased tissue accumulation. Histological assessments showed that the dual drug Nplex can reduce the inflammation response in acute gouty arthritis and chronic uric acid nephropathy in vivo. In the macrophage system, there was lower toxicity and increased beneficial effect on inflammation with Nplex than free BmK9 or uricase. Collectively, this novel formulation provides a dual drug delivery system that can treat gouty arthritis and uric acid nephropathy.

Extruded samples of [Formula: see text] solid solutions doped with 0.0005 at.% Te were obtained and the electrical conductivity [Formula: see text], thermoelectric power (Seebeck) [Formula: see text], Hall [Formula: see text] and thermal conductivity [Formula: see text] coefficients were investigated in the range [Formula: see text]–300 K samples and magnetic field strength up to [Formula: see text] A/m, as annealed after extrusion, non-irradiated with gamma-quanta and the same samples irradiated with gamma quanta at different doses. It was found that at low doses (1 Mrad) of irradiation, radiation defects (RDs) appear in the samples which play the role of donor centers, as a result of which the concentration of free electrons [Formula: see text], and, consequently the electrical conductivity [Formula: see text] increases, and the Seebeck coefficient [Formula: see text] decreases. These defects, scattering the current carriers, reduce their mobility [Formula: see text]. With an increase in the radiation dose, the concentration of defects also increases and free carriers are captured at the level of the RD. In this regard, the concentration of charged carrier defects [Formula: see text] and, consequently, [Formula: see text] of the sample decrease, while the Seebeck coefficient and mobility increase. The effect of a magnetic field on the electrical and thermal parameters of extruded solid solution samples also depends on the radiation dose in the sample.

The efficiency roll-off and operational lifetime of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a tetradentate Pt(II) emitter is improved by engaging an n-doped electron-transporting layer (ETL). Compared to those devices with non-doped ETL, the driving voltage is lowered, the charged carrier is balanced, and the exciton density in the emissive layer (EML) is decreased in the device with n-doped ETL with 8-hydroxyquinolinolatolithium (Liq). High luminance of almost 70,000 cd m−2 and high current efficiency of 40.5 cd A−1 at high luminance of 10,000 cd m−2 is achieved in the device with 50 wt%-Liq-doped ETL. More importantly, the extended operational lifetime of 1945 h is recorded at the initial luminance of 1000 cd m−2 in the 50 wt%-Liq-doped device, which is longer than that of the device with non-doped ETL by almost 10 times. This result manifests the potential application of tetradentate Pt(II) complexes in the OLED industry.

The quantum-mechanical model proposed earlier by Skourtis and Nitzan (J. of Chem. Phys. 119, (2003) 6271) to describe a charge transfer in a fragment of artificial DNA molecule has been numerically investigated. The current rationale for the model is carried out and values of its parameters are indicated. Within this model, the description of the transport of a hole carrier in DNA is based on solutions to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation including damping effects. The non-unitary dynamics of the hole carrier is treated by us within the framework of a theory of continuous quantum measurements by the environment in an open quantum system. Results of numerical analysis of the model are in a good agreement with experimental observations and demonstrate two different types of the charged carrier motion, presumably tunneling and incoherent hopping. The main concepts of the theory of decoherence and superselection for open quantum systems and the prospects for their application for further study of various mechanisms of motion of a charged carrier in DNA are briefly discussed.

Novel potentiometric solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SC/ISEs) based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as sensory carriers (MIP/PANI/ISE) were prepared and characterized as potentiometric sensors for flucarbazone herbicide anion. However, aliquat S 336 was also studied as a charged carrier in the fabrication of Aliquat/PANI/ISEs for flucarbazone monitoring. The polyaniline (PANI) film was inserted between the ion-sensing membrane (ISM) and the electronic conductor glassy carbon substrate (GC). The sensors showed a noticeable response towards flucarbazone anions with slopes of −45.5 ± 1.3 (r2 = 0.9998) and −56.3 ± 1.5 (r2 = 0.9977) mV/decade over the range of 10−2–10−5, 10−2–10−4 M and detection limits of 5.8 × 10−6 and 8.5 × 10−6 M for MIP/PANI/ISE and Aliguat/PANI/ISE, respectively. The selectivity and long-term potential stability of all presented ISEs were investigated. The short-term potential and electrode capacitances were studied and evaluated using chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance spectrometry (EIS). The proposed ISEs were introduced for the direct measurement of flucarbazone herbicide in different soil samples sprayed with flucarbazone herbicide. The results agree well with the results obtained using the standard liquid chromatographic method (HPLC).
