Abstract Background Scaphoid stress fractures are rare and typically present in young, elite male athletes. Due to the infrequency in which these injuries are encountered, the optimum management is not established. Case Description We present the case of a 20-year-old male gymnast with bilateral stress fractures of the scaphoid waist. Following conservative treatment, clinical and radiological signs of union were seen bilaterally. Eight months after return to normal activities, a unilateral recurrence of the stress fracture occurred. This was successfully treated with internal fixation and bone grafting. Literature Review Scaphoid stress fractures are most frequently seen in gymnasts but also occur in participants of other sports involving repetitive loading of an extended wrist. This action conveys force predominantly through the waist of the scaphoid. Most case studies have reported high union rates, whether treated operatively or conservatively, and the patients returned to high-level sport with no further problems. Stress fracture recurrence has been reported in other bones such as the metatarsal and tibia but never before in the scaphoid. Our case is unusual in that the patient suffered ongoing problems due to a recurrence of the scaphoid stress fracture after returning to normal activities. Clinical Relevance Clinicians should be aware that scaphoid stress fracture recurrence can occur, counsel patients accordingly, and remain vigilant after apparent union. We would recommend early fixation to allow a quicker return to function and prevention of recurrence.

AbstractKnowledge is the result of knowing someone by sensing certain objects, sensing can occur through the five human sense, namely the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Good knowledge can couse good preventive behaviors. Early prevention is the only thing that can be done to avoid the recurrebce of asthma. The prevention is done to minimize the risk of asthma attacks. This literature review aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge about asthma and the prevention of recurrence of asthma. This literature Review accessed PUBMED by combining the keywords “Knowledge” and “Prevention Asthma”. Participants in this study were patients with asthma who had a P-Value of 0,000. The Results showed that there was a correlation between knowledge about asthma and efforts to prevent the recurrence of asthma. This study is expected to be a reference for hospitals or health centers to increase educational activities and knowledge about asthma.Keyword: Asthma Knowledge, Asthma Prevention AbstrakTingkat kontrol asma merupakan suatu tingkatan pengamatan manifestasi asma pada penderita asma atau berkurangnya maupun menghilangnya penyakit asma melalui pengobatan.

Cervical insufficiency (CI) is classically characterized as painless dilation of the uterine cervix in the second trimester that results in delivery of the pregnancy, typically prior to 24 weeks’ gestation. Treatment of the condition has centered on prevention of recurrence in women with a history of CI or early preterm birth. Universal screening tools for CI in women without a history of prior PTB are lacking. Cervical change that is painless may occur with minimal symptoms such as increasing of vaginal discharge/mucous, vaginal pressure or fullness; many women and their providers can dismiss pathologic symptoms that would otherwise be benign in women without CI. The management of CI is categorized as surgical vs. nonsurgical. The cornerstone of surgical management is composed of cervical cerclage, and may be placed by a transvaginal or transabdominal approach depending on the obstetric history. Nonsurgical management includes pessary or activity restriction. For women who have experienced a midtrimester loss due to suspected cervical insufficiency, postnatal or preconception consultation is essential to identify modifiable risk factors, collect medical records of the delivery, and review pathology results if available.

Gastric volvulus is a rare and life-threatening abdominal pain condition resulting from the stomach twisting on its own longitudinal (organo-axial) or transverse (mesentero-axial) axis. Gastric volvulus can be primary or secondary. Secondary is most commonly related to para-esophageal hernia. Gastric volvulus can have an acute or chronic presentation, the acute form presents abdominal pain with a risk of gastric ischemia with subsequent perforation. Diagnosis is made by imaging studies such as barium contrast studies in the upper digestive tract or abdominal and chest computed tomography (CT). CT of the abdomen and thorax is very useful in the diagnosis as it can demonstrate the abnormal position and gastric torsion The goal in the definitive treatment of gastric volvulus is resolution of gastric obstruction and prevention of recurrence. Performing volvulus reduction, repair of the concomitant cause (para-esophageal hernia), fundoplication and/or gastropexy to the anterior abdominal wall. Gastropexy is considered safe and effective in elderly patients with high surgical risk.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard and fundamental treatment of choice for acute cholecystitis; however, there are cases in which patients may be poor surgical candidates due to advanced age, comorbidities, and/or general condition. The rate of recurrent cholecystitis is high in patients who are not surgically treated; therefore, the prevention of recurrence in this patient population is an important subject of investigation in the management of cholecystitis. Although it has recently been reported that long-term stent placement by endoscopic gallbladder stenting or endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage may reduce the recurrence rate, its efficacy and safety remain controversial. Additionally, details surrounding the long-term stent management of these treatment methods should be further investigated. In this review, we summarize the updated evidence regarding the usefulness of long-term stent placement with endoscopic gallbladder stenting or endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage as a preventive measure for recurrence of cholecystitis and discuss issues that should be addressed in future studies.
