In this manuscript we have presented seven variation of Air-Cooled Heat Exchanger (ACHE) design with internal grooving annular tube, all of them are having variable number of aluminum rectangular fins with different distances between the fins. In the proposed design we get the value of heat transfer rate of a counter to cross flow ACHE is 7062.95 watt, 3969.78 watt, 2724.15 watt, 2149.25 watt, 1785.03 watt, 1533.43 watt, and 1325.34 watt in natural convection (without fan) for 5 mm, 10 mm, 15mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 35 mm respectively. On the other hand the value of heat transfer rate in forced convection (with fan) are 7100.40 watt, 3995.30 watt, 2740.54 watt, 2162.26 watt, 17897.63 watt, 1540.00 watt, and 1331.60 watt for 5 mm, 10 mm, 15mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 35 mm respectively.

This paper investigates the effect of fins orientations of a horizontal two fins annular tube heat exchanger on enhancing the heat transfer during the melting process of n-eicosane, as phase change material (PCM) used in thermal storage systems. Based on the enthalpy-porosity method, two-dimensional model is performed and solved by Ansys Fluent. The impact of the fins orientation on melting rate, thermal conduction and natural convection, as the angle of the system varied from 0º (vertical fins) to 90º (horizontal fins) are discussed. Numerical predictions are validated by comparison with experimental data and numerical results reported in the literature. Good agreements are achieved. The results show that at initial time of the melting process, the conduction heat transfer is dominant. During the melting process, the heat transfer in the horizontal fins is more effective while the upper half of PCM melts and less effective as the lower half of PCM melts because fin arrangement resists natural convection occurs. However, the effectiveness of heat transfer and convection in the vertical fins is almost constant during the entire melting process. From comparison, better heat transfer performance is achieved with vertical fins system; complete melting was reduced 250% compared to horizontal fins case.

The objective of this study is to provide modern analytical and empirical tools for evaluation of the thermal-flow performance or design of air-cooled heat exchangers (ACHE) and cooling towers. This review consist various factors which effect the performance of ACHE. We introduced systematically to the literature, theory, and practice relevant to the performance evaluation and design of industrial cooling. Its provide better understanding of the performance characteristics of a heat exchanger, effectiveness can be improved in different operating conditions .The total cost of cycle can be reduced by increasing the effectiveness of heat exchanger.

The thermal-hydraulic performance in a novel annular tube formed by outer straight and inner twisted oval tubes is numerically investigated. An annular tube formed by two straight oval tubes is also studied for comparison. Inner twisted oval tubes with different aspect ratios and twist ratios are studied. The heat transfer is well improved by the symmetrical secondary flow in the annulus. The Nusselt number generally increases when the inner oval tube becomes flatter and the twists stronger in the studied range of geometrical parameters. The largest Nusselt number Nu of the inner twisted tube increases by 116% while the friction factor f increases by only 46% compared with that of the inner straight tube, and the largest value of the thermal performance factor (JF) can be up to 1.9. Correlations of the Nusselt number and friction factor are proposed for laminar and turbulent flows, and the deviations of the correlations are within ±5% and ±4% for Nu and f, respectively.

Abstract The thermal entrance region for laminar-forced convection of a Newtonian fluid in an annular tube is solved by separation of variables using as many eigenvalues and eigenfunctions as needed to report exact results for a specified range of Graetz numbers. Results for the local and average Nusselt numbers are calculated for a wide range of inner to outer wall radius ratios and for convection to either the inner or outer wall, when the opposing wall is adiabatic. The present benchmark results are utilized to critically examine the accuracy of previous extended Lévêque series solutions that are convergent for short axial distances, and Graetz series solutions that are convergent for long axial distances, and to examine the performance of a new correlation for convection in annular tubes.
