Understanding the spatiotemporal characteristics of regional drought is of great significance in decision-making processes such as water resources and agricultural systems management. The North China Plain is an important grain production base in China and the most drought-prone region in the country. In this study, the monthly standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) was used to monitor the spatiotemporal variation of agricultural drought in the North China Plain from 1960 to 2017. Seven spatial patterns of drought variability were identified in the North China Plain, such as Huang-Huai Plain, Lower Yangtze River Plain, Haihe Plain, Shandong Hills, Qinling Mountains Margin area, Huangshan Mountain surroundings, and Yanshan Mountain margin area. The spatial models showed different trends in different time stages, indicating that the drought conditions in the North China Plain were complex and changeable in the past 58 years. As an important agricultural area, the North China Plain needs more attention since this region shows a remarkable trend of drought and, as such, will definitely increase the water demand for agricultural irrigation. The strong correlation between these spatial distribution patterns indicates that the climate and weather conditions leading to drought are consistent and that drought conditions are independent for regions that are not correlated. If this trend continues, the characteristics of drought variability in the North China Plain will become more complex, and a more detailed water management strategy will be needed to address the effects of drought on agro-ecosystems. Recognizing the drought variability in the North China Plain can provide a basis for agricultural disaster reduction planning and water resources allocation.

AbstractBecause of the cost and complexity of implementing an optical paper sorting system, the demand for an intelligent system for waste paper sorting has increased. This research focused on the development of a smart intelligent system (SIS) for recyclable waste paper sorting. The basis for selecting the regions of interests (ROIs) is the margin area of a paper object image because almost all printed documents keep the margin area intact. The paper grade is identified using a proximity search. The SIS with the HSI colour space offered maximum success rates of 99 %, 82 % and 89 %, while with the RGB model, the classification success rates were 94 %, 93 % and 98 % for white paper, old newsprint paper and old corrugated cardboard, respectively. The SIS is clearly superior to other prevailing techniques because of the faster decision making and lower cost of implementation.

Aim To investigate the correlation between clinicopathological features and risk stratification in cervical cancer patients, and evaluate the feasibility of tumor-infiltrating immune cells as prognostic biomarkers in clinical practice. Methods CD3+ tumor infiltrating T cells (TILs), CD45RO+ TILs, CD4+ TILs, CD8+ TILs, FOXP3+ TILs (regulatory T cells, Tregs), CD68+ tumor associated macrophages (TAMs), CD163+ TAMs, and PD-L1+ tumor cells were immunostained in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (PPFE) tissues from 96 cervical cancer patients. Immunostaining density and other clinicopathological features such as age, FIGO stage, histopathologic type, Ki67 index, HPV status, lymhovasular invasion status (LVI), lymph node metastasis, tumor size, stromal invasion status, surgical margin status, and parametrial invasion, were evaluated for their roles in risk stratification of cervical cancer patients. Results The results showed that significant differences of lymph node metastasis (p = 0.003), surgical margin status (p = 0.020), and stromal invasion status (p = 0.004) existed between lVI(−) and LVI(+) patients. CD3+ TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.010), CD4+ TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.045), CD8 + TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.033), and CD8+ TILs in the invasive margin area (p = 0.004) showed significant differences between lVI(−) and LVI(+) patients. When patients were grouped by status of lymph node metastasis, significant differences of FIGO stage (p = 0.005), LVI status (p = 0.003), CD3+ TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.045), CD45RO+ TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.033), and CD45RO+ TILs in the invasive margin area (p = 0.028) were also observed. After the patients were stratified into low-, intermediate-, and high risk groups, significant differences of FIGO stage (p = 0.018), status of lymph node metastasis (p = 0.000), LVI status (p = 0.000), parametrial invasion status (p=0.012), stromal invasion status (p = 0.000), tumor growth pattern (p = 0.015) and tumor size (p = 0.000) were identified among 3 groups of patients, while only CD45RO+ TILs in the invasive margin area (p = 0.018) and FOXP3+ TILs in the central tumor area (p = 0.009) were statistically different among three groups of patients. Spearman’s correlation analysis demonstrated that FIGO stage, LVI status, status of lymph node metastasis, parametrial invasion, stromal invasion status, and tumor size positively correlated with risk stratification (P = 0.005, 0.020, 0.000, 0.022, 0.000, and 0.000 respectively), while CD45RO+ TILs in the invasive margin area and FOXP3+ TILs in the central tumor area showed statistically negative correlation with risk stratification (P = 0.031, 0.009 respectively). Conclusion Our study suggested that CD45RO+ TILs in the invasive margin area and FOXP3+ TILs in the central tumor area might be useful biomarkers for risk stratification in cervical cancer patients. Large cohort studies of cervical cancer patients are required to validate our hypothesis.

Oil and gas have been discovered and produced from Cuu Long basin for more than 20 years however the distribution charateristics according to stratigraphy have not been studied. In this study, data from more than 200 PVT reports of more than 30 discoveries and published reports of previous studies were investigated to find out the distribution characteristics of reservoir fluid properties. The results show that oil and gas in Cuu Long basin mainly follow normal distribution, in some areas they are in redistribution (retrogradation) stage. Saturation pressure, GOR and compressibility are very high at the centre area and rapidly reduce at the margin area, whereas reservoir fluid density is in the inverse trend. Oil and gas have tendency to accumulate in NW-SE direction. Condensate discoveries in Cuu Long basin mainly result from redistribution process except some discoveries in center of basin.

A new whitefly species, Aleuromarginatus dielsianae Wang & Xu, sp. n. collected from Millettia dielsiana Harms (Rosales: Fabaceae) in Jiangshan (28°40'N, 118°40'E, 512 m) and Xinchang (29°22'N, 120°46'E, 308 m), Zhejiang, China, is described and illustrated. This new species is characterized by the dark brown lateral margin area and a pair of longitudinal furrows extending from the cephalothorax to the vasiform orifice. The submargin has an elongate-oval fold at the base of each marginal tooth and with 3-4 rows of irregular shaped papillae, nine pairs submedian setae and 13 pairs submarginal setae. Thoracic and caudal tracheal folds and pores discernible. An identification key and checklist of species of Aleuromarginatus known from China are provided.

AbstractNitrogen is an essential element for biological activity, and nitrogen isotopic compositions of geological samples record information about both marine biological processes and environmental evolution. However, only a few studies of N isotopes in the early Cambrian have been published. In this study, we analysed nitrogen isotopic compositions, as well as trace elements and sulphur isotopic compositions of cherts, black shales, carbonaceous shales and argillaceous carbonates from the Daotuo drill core in Songtao County, NE Guizhou Province, China, to reconstruct the marine redox environment of both deep and surface seawater in the study area of the Yangtze shelf margin in the early Cambrian. The Mo–U covariation pattern of the studied samples indicates that the Yangtze shelf margin area was weakly restricted and connected to the open ocean through shallow water flows. Mo and U concentrations, δ15Nbulk and δ34Spy values of the studied samples from the Yangtze shelf margin area suggest ferruginous but not sulphidic seawater and low marine sulphate concentration (relatively deep chemocline) in the Cambrian Fortunian and early Stage 2; sulphidic conditions (shallow chemocline and anoxic photic zone) in the upper Cambrian Stage 2 and lower Stage 3; and the depression of sulphidic seawater in the middle and upper Cambrian Stage 3. Furthermore, the decreasing δ15N values indicate shrinking of the marine nitrate reservoir during the middle and upper Stage 3, which reflects a falling oxygenation level in this period. The environmental evolution was probably controlled by the changing biological activity through its feedback on the local marine environment.
