The present study aims to determine the epidemiological, clinical and laboratorial profile of the dermatopathies that affect dogs and cats living in a semi-arid area in the Northeast of Brazil. Seventy-eight dogs and cats consulted at the Veterinary Hospital with dermatological complaints were included in this study. Skin lesions were characterized with respect to morphology, appearance, and distribution, an epidemiological questionnaire was applied, and samples were collected for complementary examination. The diagnosis was confirmed by parasitological and microbiological tests.  There was a predominance of the canine species (93.6%), of young animals (46.3%), and of animals of undefined breeds (61.5%).  It was observed that 29.5% of the affections were of fungal aetiology, 14.1% were bacterial, 3.9% were scabies. In 5.1% of the cases there were associations between different pathogens, and in 47.4% the laboratory examination was negative for the pathogens investigated. The most frequent clinical manifestations included alopecia (74.4%), pruritus (61.6%) and erythema (43.6%), distributed mainly in the dorsal-ventral region (36.1%) or even disseminated (43.1%). With respect to One Health, 51.3% (40/78) of the owners reported that they did not know what "zoonoses" were.  Dermatopathies have been shown to be important disorders, especially the mycotic and bacterial diseases. Atypical cases of infections motivated by pathogens little described in the literature as etiologic agents of dermatopathies in dogs and cats were observed.

Only a few clinical cases of cerebral arterial gas embolism during spinal surgery are published. It seems important not to overlook this diagnosis in order to initiate rapid appropriate treatment. This was a suspected case of paradoxical gas embolism revealed postoperatively by neurological deficits and whose recovery was noted during hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Unfortunately, no complementary examination showed gas embolism and only the context, the clinical picture and the case evolution evoke this diagnosis. The diagnostic difficulty in the immediate postoperative period is highlighted.

Dermoscope is a very useful and non-invasive technique for diagnosis of pigmentary skin lesions. It helps in diagnosis of skin lesions like seborrheic keratosis , spitz nevus which may clinically simulate melanoma. It involves a complementary examination of pigmented lesions on the skin, increasing the chance of an accurate diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma. It is a relatively simple technique that can be carried out in a doctor's office, clinic, or hospital, with the use of a portable device (manual dermatoscope). In this article we are presenting the dermoscopic features of common hyper and hypopigmented skin lesions . The goal is to introduce this subject to those not yet familiar with it, in order to instigate and encourage the training and practice of this technique of growing importance for everyday usage.

Objectives: The anatomical area that constitutes the abdomen is an area that is often subject to serious conditions. These diseases can affect the digestive and urogenital systems and radiography is a complementary examination of choice to refine the diagnosis. This study had for objective, to realize a radio anatomical atlas of the Abdomen in order to facilitate the comprehension and the interpretation of the radiographic pictures of the dog. Methodology: To do this, radiographs were performed on the Abdomen of 30 healthy dogs including 15 females and 15 males, (all of local breed) received at the radiology room. Results: At the end of the study, the best normal pictures by anatomical region and by incidence of the normal pictures of the Abdomen, were selected constituting a reference database in radiographic anatomy of this animal. Each radiograph is commented and annotated, facilitating the understanding of the images. These radiographic images will serve as a basis for the interpretation of radiographic images of the abdomen in the dog. Conclusion: These radiographs will serve as a basis for the interpretation of radiographic images of the abdomen of the dog.

Background: Ultrasonography is the first complementary examination and it is an efficient method to identify different types of cystic lesions of the ovary as well as their complications. Objective: This work aims to study ultrasound characteristics of complicated ovarian cysts and their contribution to emergency department management. Methods: It is a retrospective study of 61 patients who have consulted the emergency department, during 6 months, from November 2016 to April 2017. We included all patients consulting the emergency department for symptoms related to an ovarian cyst. Results: The average size of the cysts was 5.38± 2.27 cm long axis, ranging from 3 to 12 cm. Their wall was thin in 59 cases and thick in 4 cases. They were unilocular in 82% and multilocular in 17.5% of cases. The echogenicity of the cysts varied. The contour of the cysts was regular in 54 cases, while irregularity was shown in 9 cases. Intracystic vegetations were illustrated in 4 cases. The solid component was demonstrated in only 1 cyst. The Douglas effusion was shown in 12.7% of cases. : The comparison of ultrasound findings between outpatient and hospitalized ones shows that there is no significant relationship between the following ultrasound features of ovarian cysts and hospitalization‘ s indication (p>5%). Conclusion: Pelvic ultrasound is of great benefit in the diagnosis of ovarian cysts, however, there is no significant relationship between the features of ovarian cysts and indication of hospitalization (p>5%).

Background: The developmental disruption of the müllerian duct and the endometrial dynamic can generate genital lesions that could contribute to infertility.Aim: This paper discusses two cases of genital conditions associated to endometrial gland pathologies in nulliparous female camels. Methods: Macroscopic examinations and histopathological description were performed on congenital and acquired genital abnormalities with endometrial gland anomalies. Results: The first case is endometrial gland agenesis associated to unilateral uterine aplasia, and the second case is endometrial gland dysgenesis associated to metritis. The prevalence of each case is estimated to be 0.6%. The most specific microscopic features associated to the endometrial gland agenesis were the presence of endometrial stromal proliferation and homogenous hyalinization of the myometrium. The acute metritis was associated to endometrial-activated stroma with focal infiltration with inflammatory cells on the endometrium and myometrium and the spontaneous endometrial gland dysgenesis. Conclusion: This study reveals the importance of congenital abnormalities during the routine reproductive examination of peripubertal animals, as well as the association of histopathological complementary examination for the research functional and inflammatory anomalies of the uterus. Genetic screening of breeders would be very important in the search for genetic risk factors associated with these congenital pathologies, which can be disseminated by reproductive biotechnologies. Adnexal masses are not common in pregnancy. They are often discovered incidentally during routine ultrasound examinations. In general, 24%–40% of the cases are benign tumors; up to 8% are malignant tumors. Adnexal masses are usually asymptomatic, but sometimes can be responsible for abdominal or pelvic pain. Transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound is essential to define the morphology of pelvic masses and to distinguish between benign and malignant cases. Magnetic resonance imaging can be a complementary examination when ultrasound findings are equivocal and a useful additional examination to better define tissue planes and relations with other organs. Patient counseling can be challenging because there is no clear consensus on the management of adnexal masses during pregnancy. Treatment options consist of observational management (in case of asymptomatic women with reassuring instrumental findings) or surgery (via laparoscopy or laparotomy). Surgery can be offered as a primary tool when cancer is suspected or when acute complications such as ovarian torsion occur.

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis that affects several species of domestic and wild animals and is an important cause of economic losses in cattle in Brazil. In this study, we determined the prevalence of bovine leptospirosis in the Triângulo Mineiro region, Minas Gerais, Brazil, identified the most frequent serovars of Leptospira interrogans, and examine the renal pathological changes associated with the disease. Samples of blood serum and kidney fragments from 100 bovine females were collected in cattle abattoir. In the serological investigation 48% of the cows were positive. The serovars for which there were more reactive animals were Wolffi (24%), Hardjo (21%) and Hebdomadis (18%). Among the positive samples, 14/48 showed antibody titers greater than 1:100, and 70.83% of the seropositive animals responded to more than one Leptospira interrogans serovar. Only one farm did not have seropositive cows and in nine farms studied, six (66.66%) presented seropositive animals to the Hebdomadis serovar. At the histopathological examination, the most frequent microscopic lesions in positive animals were hyalinization (81.25%), congestion (81.25%) and hydropic degeneration (70.83%). However, these histopathological alterations were also found in kidneys of animals negative to serology, such as hyalinization (80.77%), congestion (48.07%) and hydropic degeneration (55.77%) and these findings are unrelated to positivity. Histopathological examination of the kidneys is not indicated to replace the serological diagnosis of leptospirosis, and may be used only as a complementary examination. Despite the low frequency of seropositive animals in the Triângulo Mineiro region, the disease is present in a large number of farms. Noteworthy is the high frequency of serovar Hebdomadis and it can be considered an emerging serovar in the region. The evaluation of the frequency of this serovar in other regions becomes important, and once verified should result in the recommendation of the inclusion of this serovar in the leptospirosis control.

ABSTRACT The present study describes a case report in sheep with multicentric lymphoma. Clinical examination revealed the animal presented tachycardia, tachypnea, congested ocular mucous membranes, fever, cachexia, mild dehydration, decreased ruminal motility, difficulty in standing, and dysuria. Supportive treatment and complementary examination (complete blood count, radiography, ultrasound and abdominocentesis) were performed. The results showed neutrophilic leukocytosis, persistent lymphocytosis, exudate with high cell concentration, and imaging examination showed abundant fluid in the abdominal cavity, and enlarged iliac and mesenteric lymph nodes. Due to the severe clinical condition, the animal died and referred for necropsy. Samples from different organs were collected for histopathological analysis. At necropsy, abundant light brown exudate was observed in the thoracic and abdominal cavities, multiple white lobulated masses in different organs, in addition to pink, irregular, multifocal and coalescent nodules in the omentum, with neoplastic cells arranged in cords and cloak of cells supported by a thin fibrovascular stroma. Macroscopic and microscopic findings are characteristic of multicentric lymphoma.
