Abstract In recent years, sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has been widely developed for cancer research as a promising non-invasive therapeutic strategy. Here, we synthesized Zeolitic imidazole frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) and utilized its properties to encapsulate hydrophobic Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and hydrophilic tirapazamine (TPZ) for a synergistic sonodynamic-chemotherapy, which was also accompanied by the modification of cytomembrane of gastric cancer (GC) cells. Thus, we enabled the biomimetic property to achieve targeted delivery. Ce6-mediated SDT, in combination with ultrasound irradiation, could target the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to aggravate further hypoxia, which activated TPZ. Combining these effects could induce the pyroptosis of GC cells. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the nanoparticle had good biocompatibility and anti-cancer function, which could provide a potential therapeutic method for cancer therapy.

Encapsulating CdS quantum dots (QDs) into zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) can offer several advantages for photocatalysis. Various types of capping agents have been used to encapsulate QDs into ZIF-8 nanopores. An effective method for encapsulating CdS QDs into ZIF-8 is to use 2-mercaptoimidazole as the capping agent. This is because 2-mercaptoimidazole is similar to the imidazolate ligands of ZIFs and can used for capping active species with simultaneous encapsulation during the crystal growth of ZIF-8. Compared to other widely used capping agents such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), using 2-mercaptoimidazole for encapsulating CdS QDs into ZIF-8 revealed photocatalytic effects along with the molecular sieving effect when using differently sized molecular redox mediators such as methyl viologen (MV2+) and diquat (DQ2+).

A bimetallic Zn/Co zeolitic imidazole frameworks (ZnCo-ZIFs) was successfully synthesized from 2-methylimidazole and two metal salts including zinc nitrate, cobalt (II) nitrate by a solvothermal method at the room temperature. Subsequently, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) loading on bimetallic frameworks was prepared by a facile impregnation method in acetone solvent. Both ZnCo-ZIFs and Ag/ZnCo-ZIFs was analyzed by several characterization techniques including X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spetroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The results showed that ZnCo-ZIFs crystals had sodalite structure, high thermal stability and AgNPs was successfully loaded on the ZnCo-ZIFs with content of 18.42%. Ag/ZnCo-ZIFs in this combination may pave a way for the preparation a kind of heterogeneous catalyst to remove organic compounds from aqueous solutions.

AbstractThe bimetallic Zn/Co zeolitic imidazole frameworks (ZnCo-ZIFs) were successfully synthesized by a simple solvothermal method at room temperature. Silver elements were afterward doped onto the bimetallic frameworks to form Ag/ZnCo-ZIFs via a facile impregnation method in acetone solvent. The as-synthesized material was used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the removal reaction of Congo red (CR) and malachite green (MG) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Effects of catalyst dosage, H2O2 concentration, initial concentration of the contaminants, reaction temperature, and reaction time were conducted in this work. The results showed that more than 94% and 98% removal of CR and MG were, respectively, achieved within 45 and 30 min. The presence of Ag also enhanced the removal efficiency of CR and MG. The main mechanism of removal reaction of the organic contaminants could be oxidation via hydroxyl radicals. Moreover, the catalytic activity of the material remained over 90% after four recycling cycles. Due to the efficient reactivity as well as high stability, Ag/ZnCo-ZIFs can be a potential heterogeneous catalyst to remove hazardous dyes from aqueous solution.
