Abstract Current industries leave a big ecological footprint that needs to be reduced to preserve our resources. For it, big industries are leading new researches to move to more environmental-friendly technologies. In this paper we explain an innovative technology which has the ability to introduce edge-computing in the node in combination with energy harvesting, which allows the device to work without the need of batteries. Also, as all the computations are performed in the node, it allows the use of long-range communication protocols. To demonstrate the behavior of the technology, the paper also presents two cases of use in facilities.

Cells can measure shallow gradients of external signals to initiate and accomplish a migration or a morphogenetic process. Recently, starting from mathematical models like the local-excitation global-inhibition (LEGI) model and with the support of empirical evidence, it has been proposed that cellular communication improves the measurement of an external gradient. However, the mathematical models that have been used have over-simplified geometries (e.g., they are uni-dimensional) or assumptions about cellular communication, which limit the possibility to analyze the gradient sensing ability of more complex cellular systems. Here, we generalize the existing models to study the effects on gradient sensing of cell number, geometry and of long- versus short-range cellular communication in 2D systems representing epithelial tissues. We find that increasing the cell number can be detrimental for gradient sensing when the communication is weak and limited to nearest neighbour cells, while it is beneficial when there is long-range communication. We also find that, with long-range communication, the gradient sensing ability improves for tissues with more disordered geometries; on the other hand, an ordered structure with mostly hexagonal cells is advantageous with nearest neighbour communication. Our results considerably extend the current models of gradient sensing by epithelial tissues, making a step further toward predicting the mechanism of communication and its putative mediator in many biological processes.

Abstract: The basic idea of this project is to save the life of fishermen at sea. We do this by installing a module in the fisherman’s life jacket. This module will be a transmitter which can transmit its current location. This module is made to be a floating module. Which is also waterproof. The person in the dangerous situation can press the button and the transmitter starts transmitting the location. The data is then transferred to the receiver via a network built by WLAN module which is also made by us. The WLAN module consists of the transmitter and the receiver and acts as repeater stations. These transmitters and receivers also contain the LoRa module. The LoRa module is Incorporated because of its long range communication specifications. The repeater station is placed buoy the help of buoys. Buoys are floating objects which are then anchored to make them stationary. The receiver is a portable one and dynamically we can get the location of the transmitter. Hence we can locate the person and then rescue them Keywords: LoRa, WLAN, GPS module,

Long range communication through the motor system is thought to be facilitated by phase coupling between neural activity in the 15-30 Hz beta range. During periods of sustained muscle contraction (grip), such coupling is manifest between motor cortex and the contralateral forearm muscles, measured as the cortico-muscular coherence (CMC). We examined alterations in CMC in individuals with Parkinsons disease (PD), while equating grip strength between individuals with PD (off their medication) and healthy control participants. We show a marked reduction in beta CMC in the PD group, even though the grip strength was comparable between the two groups. Moreover, the reduced CMC was related to motor symptoms, so that individuals with lower CMC also displayed worse motor symptoms. These findings highlight the CMC as a simple, effective, and clinically relevant neural marker of PD pathology, with the potential to aid monitoring of disease progression and the efficacy of novel treatments for PD.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and small drones are nowadays being widely used in heterogeneous use cases: aerial photography, precise agriculture, inspections, environmental data collection, search-and-rescue operations, surveillance applications, and more. When designing UAV swarm-based applications, a key “ingredient” to make them effective is the communication system (possible involving multiple protocols) shared by flying drones and terrestrial base stations. When compared to ground communication systems for swarms of terrestrial vehicles, one of the main advantages of UAV-based communications is the presence of direct Line-of-Sight (LOS) links between flying UAVs operating at an altitude of tens of meters, often ensuring direct visibility among themselves and even with some ground Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs). Therefore, the adoption of proper networking strategies for UAV swarms allows users to exchange data at distances (significantly) longer than in ground applications. In this paper, we propose a hybrid communication architecture for UAV swarms, leveraging heterogeneous radio mesh networking based on long-range communication protocols—such as LoRa and LoRaWAN—and IEEE 802.11s protocols. We then discuss its strengths, constraints, viable implementation, and relevant reference use cases.

EEE 802.11ah is a wireless LAN standard in the sub-1-GHz license-exempt bands for cost-effective and long-range communication. The most challenging issue in IEEE 802.11ah is to ensure that thousands of stations associate efficiently with a single access point. When several thousand stations try to associate with the access point during network initialization, it causes channel contention and long association delay. IEEE 802.11ah has introduced an authentication control mechanism (ACM) that divides the stations into groups allowing fewest stations to access the medium. In this paper, we propose to automate the cluster head selection using LEACH. Simulation results reveal that our proposed method is efficient in terms of association delay.

AbstractTo perform an accurate protein synthesis, ribosomes accomplish complex tasks involving the long-range communication between its functional centres such as the peptidyl transfer centre, the tRNA bindings sites and the peptide exit tunnel. How information is transmitted between these sites remains one of the major challenges in current ribosome research. Many experimental studies have revealed that some r-proteins play essential roles in remote communication and the possible involvement of r-protein networks in these processes have been recently proposed. Our phylogenetic, structural and mathematical study reveals that of the three kingdom’s r-protein networks converged towards non-random graphs where r-proteins collectively coevolved to optimize interconnection between functional centres. The massive acquisition of conserved aromatic residues at the interfaces and along the extensions of the newly connected eukaryotic r-proteins also highlights that a strong selective pressure acts on their sequences probably for the formation of new allosteric pathways in the network.
