Purpose This study aims to understand the member countries’ current asset recovery mechanism based on two elements, namely, confiscation policy and asset recovery management framework. Design/methodology/approach Content analysis was performed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) of eight countries. Findings The result showed that only a few countries established a centralised asset recovery centre or special task force to manage recovered assets. Research limitations/implications This study is limited to information mentioned in the FATF MER. Practical implications This study highlights the need to have a centralised asset recovery management centre as an initiative to improve the outcome of money laundering investigations. The study findings will benefit regulators to understand further the practical challenges of the asset recovery mechanism for future improvement. Originality/value FATF recommends that each country establish a centralised asset recovery centre and work closely with the investigating officers and prosecutors in deciding on assets confiscation. However, the implementation is contingent on their local environment and resources at the member countries’ discretion. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the member countries’ current asset recovery mechanism based on two elements, namely confiscation policy and asset recovery management framework.

Disaster recovery management requires agile decision making and action that can be supported through business intelligence (BI) and analytics. Yet, fundamental data issues such as challenges in data quality have continued to plague disaster recovery efforts leading to delays and high costs in disaster support. This chapter presents an example of these issues from the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, where Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc upon the city of New Orleans forcing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to begin an unprecedented cleanup effort. The chapter brings to light the failings in record keeping during this disaster and highlight how a simple BI application can improve the accuracy and quality of data and save costs. It also highlights the ongoing data driven issues in disaster recovery management that FEMA continues to confront and the need for integrated centralized BI and analytics solutions extending to the supply chain that FEMA needs to become more nimble and effective when dealing with disasters.

CrossFit is a combination of movements from various sport disciplines such as Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Gymnastics executed at high intensity. It has shown to bring about physiological and psycho-social benefits to members, increasing exercise adherence. Established in 2005, CrossFit has seen an exponential growth since, with 13,991 CrossFit affiliates worldwide. The popularity of the program despite its disposition to injury requires greater attention to its safety. This research aims to understand (1) reasons of injury among CrossFitters; (2) Injury management techniques among CrossFitters. In-depth interviews were conducted with nine CrossFitters from five Singapore CrossFit affiliates. Data was transcribed and thematically analyzed. Findings revealed that causes of injury include poor workout program designs, insufficient physiological knowledge passed down from coaches to athletes, athlete’s impatience when learning new skills as well as athletes conforming to performance and peer pressures. Further, Crossfitters manage their injuries through self-care physiological means and with professional guidance. The study concludes that coaches play a vital role in both the prevention and management of injuries. Therefore, they should design their programs with the athlete’s safety in mind and foster an environment that values patience, strength building discipline and safety. Athletes should also pay extra attention to their movement technique and be self-reflective in their physical capabilities. All athletes should regularly practice conservative physiological recovery methods and seek treatment or diagnosis from medical practitioners when necessary.

The COVID-19 pandemic has asserted major baseline facts from disaster anthropology during the last three decades. Resilience could be based on the solution to the question: "What is the maximum amount of destruction, if any, that the graph (a network) can sustain while ensuring that at least one of each technology type remains and that the remaining induced subgraph is properly colored?" The concept of a graph's Chromatic Core Subgraph is a solution to the stated problem. In this paper, the pandemic graphs and certain sequential graphs are developed. For these graphs, the Chromatic core subgraph is obtained. The results of the pandemic graphs' Chromatic core subgraph are used to develop a disaster recovery strategy for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A) came to attention back in June 2020, when the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) received initial reports regarding patients who had presented delayed and multisystem involvement of the disease, with clinical course resembling multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). This study introduces a case of MIS-A, where the patient presented 3 weeks after initial COVID-19 exposure. His clinical course was consistent with the working definition of MIS-A as specified by the CDC. Aggressive supportive care in the intensive care unit, utilization of advanced heart failure devices, and immunomodulatory therapeutics (high-dose steroids, anakinra, intravenous immunoglobulin) led to clinical recovery. Management of MIS-A is a topic of ongoing research and needs more studies to elaborate on treatment modalities and clinical predictors.

The current study examined drug users’ perspectives on strategies that helped them to maintain normative functioning or resolve impaired functioning. We interviewed 29 drug users who described themselves as functioning normatively while using drugs on a regular basis until they experienced harms or raised concerns of future harms. The content analysis showed that the users maintain their normative functioning through diverse strategies that can be located on a continuum. This continuum was conceptualized as “normative functioning management” based on White et al.’s concept of “recovery management.” This study found an ongoing continuum through self-management and social interaction consisting of three regions: the management of normative functioning, the recognition of the harm of drug use to functioning, and the subsequent adoption of change strategies for maintaining normative functioning. This continuum may provide a more nuanced theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of drug users with normative functioning and is therefore relevant for counselors encountering such users in their practice. This study highlights inner resources such as self-awareness and social interaction that help functioning users to maintain their normative functioning and fulfill basic obligations in their normal routines, that is, preserving their professional status, family lives, and relationships.

Abstract Objective Information regarding differences in concussion and mild TBI recovery management protocols and recovery expectations vary across disciplines. This often leads to imprecise expectations for prognosis and adverse impacts on effective treatment and recovery. National groups and institutions provide training regarding concussion by neuropsychologists and rehabilitation psychologists to psychologists; however, broadband cross-discipline training is limited. Clinically, psychoeducation and clarification fall on Neuropsychologists and Rehabilitation psychologists. The purpose of this poster is to highlight the importance of the role of neuropsychologists in the education of concussion versus TBI recovery to support medical providers, teachers, and educators to facilitate appropriate care. Data Selection The current literature was review and obtained through the search within various databases such as PsycInfo, Google Scholar, and OhioLink. Keywords such as concussion, mild traumatic brain injury, psychoeducation, and neuropsychology were utilized to provide an inclusive review of the current research (2016–2021). Data Synthesis The focus of existing literature supports the education of concussions for patients and their families. Much of the literature supports the role of many disciplines to aid in recovery. There is limited research to support neuropsychology/Rehabilitation psychology’s efficacy to provide didactic training for providers of different fields supporting this population. Conclusion Through research, advocacy, and program development, the field of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation psychology can utilize the holistic framework of the brain–body relationship to further facilitate the discussion of concussion and TBI recovery for providers of other disciplines serving these populations. Since treatment is multi-disciplinary for this clinical population, further programmatic evaluation provides interdisciplinary didactics to improve patient care.

Microorganisms inhabiting subsurface petroleum reservoirs are key players in biochemical transformations. The interactions of microbial communities in these environments are highly complex and still poorly understood. This work aimed to assess publicly available metagenomes from oil reservoirs and implement a robust pipeline of genome-resolved metagenomics to decipher metabolic and taxonomic profiles of petroleum reservoirs worldwide. Analysis of 301.2 Gb of metagenomic information derived from heavily flooded petroleum reservoirs in China and Alaska to non-flooded petroleum reservoirs in Brazil enabled us to reconstruct 148 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) of high and medium quality. At the phylum level, 74% of MAGs belonged to bacteria and 26% to archaea. The profiles of these MAGs were related to the physicochemical parameters and recovery management applied. The analysis of the potential functional core in the reservoirs showed that the microbiota was specialized for each site, with 31.7% of the total KEGG orthologies annotated as functions (1690 genes) common to all oil fields, while 18% of the functions were site-specific, i.e., present only in one of the oil fields. The oil reservoirs with a lower level of intervention were the most similar to the potential functional core, while the oil fields with a long history of water injection had greater variation in functional profile. These results show how key microorganisms and their functions respond to the distinct physicochemical parameters and interventions of the oil field operations such as water injection and expand the knowledge of biogeochemical transformations in these ecosystems.
