AbstractIn all levels of education, teachers’ abilities to deal with complex classroom situations in split-seconds concerns pedagogical tact, a crucial quality which relies, in part, on intuition. Developing the ability to appropriately handle the complexity of classroom situations requires a systemic approach. This study aimed to explore the experiences in and effects of a systemic-phenomenological professional development program for enhancing teacher abilities to handle complex (classroom) situations through conscious attention for intuition. In the present study, 64 teachers from primary, secondary, and higher education participated in a 12 week professional development program featuring systemic-phenomenological exercises, such as meditations and embodied simulations. By increasing understanding of the complexity of social systems and sensitizing awareness of intuitive signals, the program aimed to improve teachers’ use of intuition, and through that, their handling of classroom situations. Data were gathered through participant reflection logs and focus group discussions, which were analysed both deductively and inductively. The findings suggest that the program helped heighten teacher awareness of intuitions, and individual awareness in the classroom, yielding positive effects on teacher abilities to take appropriate split-second action in complex classroom situations. While further research is needed, the results of this study include practices for enhancing teacher awareness of intuition through systemic-phenomenological exercises which proved to be promising, and a taxonomy of effects related to pedagogical tact in the classroom.

Before applying any technology, we must take into account that its elements, although not a complete system, are reflected in the works of teachers of our native people. Because every nation, every country has its own psychological specifics and its own spiritual Outlook, in a word, the national code. The ability to correctly use this code in the educational process requires high pedagogical skills. For example, the technology of critical thinking and developmental learning in the Cambridge system is reflected in the thoughts of M. Zhumabayev, the poet-thinker of our people, the author of the famous work «Pedagogy», which was written in the early ХХth century in an integral and consistent form. The article discusses the pedagogical views of M. Zhumabayev in accordance with modern requirements in pedagogy. Based on the work «Pedagogy», the professional orientation of the teacher's personality, the subtleties of the teacher's profession, professional and pedagogical inclinations and flexibility are analyzed. The article describes in detail the features of the teacher's personality, such as pedagogical duty and responsibility, pedagogical ethics and pedagogical tact, pedagogical justice and authority of the teacher, the culture of scientific and pedagogical thinking. The purpose of the article is to consider the best modern technologies necessary for a modern education system, and its integral system, its unified elements based on the works of the honored worker M. Zhumabayev in the field of pedagogy of the native people.

Teacher training is a theme that permeates the field of studies in the field of education, as well as educational policies. Among the policies, we highlight the Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID), which consists of an inductive action in the training of teachers aiming to value and improve teacher training. The programis developed in partnership with Universities and Basic Education Schools and involves graduates, supervisors (basic education teachers), area coordinators and teachers who work in institutional coordination and in the management of educational processes (higher education teachers). This article is part of a qualitative research that sought to investigate the relationship between training and teaching practice in theperception of the area coordinators of PIBID / Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). In this article, we will present the analysis of the data collected, through questionnaires and interviews, referring to the category: “What it is to be a teacher and teacher trainer”. Among the perceptions, it was possible to identify that the PIBID / UFOP area coordinators are in permanent training and the PIBID was a possibility of approaching the public school of basic education. The study allowed us to conclude that there is a formative reciprocity among the participants, which as they form. The area coordinators reinforced the conception of knowledge and pedagogical tact in line with the inseparation of theory and practice, the work of the trainer based on dialogue, commitment to public education, teacher training, teaching and learning and the constant reassessment of its own practice.

AbstractSituated evaluative practices in pedagogical workThe new Danish Day Care Act specifies that the learning environment in daycare settings must be qualified and evaluated continuously by the pedagogues and with the involvement of children’s perspectives (Day Care Act 2018, Section 9). This implies the need for new knowledge about how we involve children’s perspectives in the evaluation and development of pedagogical practice. This article seeks to show how the pedagogues with the involvement of children’s perspectives develop the learning environment in a daycare setting. With the empirical term, situated evaluative practices the article proposes that pedagogical practice is evaluative in itself due to its inherent pedagogical intentionality. Inspired by Max van Manen’s “Phenomenology of Practice” (2007) and his concepts of pedagogical moment (2012) and pedagogical tact (1991), the purpose of the article is to, 1) describe and discuss pedagogical intentionality as a pedagogical situated and evaluative phenomenon, 2) to discuss why pedagogue’s intentionality should be recognized as an important part of pedagogue’s daily evaluation practice. The article thus seeks to contribute with new perspectives regarding the development of the new culture of evaluation, which Danish daycares currently are developing.

AbstractFrom assistant preschool teachers to expert with pedagogical tact Since the 1980s, many Danish municipalities have been establishing centralized units of assistant pre-school teachers who provide special assistance for the pedagogical practices of pre-school institutions. The tasks of these assistant pre-school teachers have changed over time: from an originally compensatory effort targeting individual children, to primarily assisting pre-school teachers and the development of the learning environment for all children. In the endeavor of assisting the development of these learning environments, it is often perceived as a sensitive issue, when assistant pre-school teachers question the pedagogical assumptions and local practices of their professional peers. This challenge calls for a special kind of pedagogical practice. In this article, we apply the concepts of interactional expertise (Collins & Evans, 2007) and pedagogical tact (van Manen, 2015) to characterize the expertise and professionalism that is at play and at stake, in the provision of assistance for the development of pedagogical practices in pre-schools institutions. The article has been developed based on action research in connection to an action learning course for assistant pre-schools teachers in a larger Danish municipality.

Abstract The importance of ‘pedagogical tact’ in relation to experiencing wonder in the classroom.Research has both empirically shown and philosophically defended the importance of ‘wonder’ in and for education. This paper aims to contribute to answering the question how, given the important role wonder can play in education, teachers can stimulate experiences of wonder in the classroom. An experience of wonder is an emotional experience, characterized by experiencing something new and unexpected, or incomprehensible, and which puzzles, surprises, fascinates, and/or astonishes the wonderer. In this paper we will describe four central elements of wonder, being alienation, non-enforceability, vulnerability and involvement. We will argue that the notion of ‘pedagogical tact’, as coined by Max van Manen, and interpreted here as a paradigmatic aspect of the pedagogical relationship, is particularly well-suited to express how teachers should respond to these four elements of children experiencing wonder.

Introduction. The study is devoted to investigation of methods to integrate “hard” and “soft” skills of law students. This approach is necessary for teaching students to make decisions in situations of value and norm uncertainty, which require the integration of law and morality, general cultural and professional competencies. The public use of hate speech is chosen as an example of a value-ambiguous problem. This problem involves the search for a certain balance of public and private interests, the right to freedom of expression and protection against discrimination, insult, stigmatization, the right to respect for private and family life. Materials and Methods. 62 students of legal specialities and areas of training were involved in the case study. Case materials were structured according to the levels of educational goals in accordance with Bloom’s classic taxonomy. The case is devoted to the analysis of the controversial commentary of Savva Terentyev. Results. The use of the case-method for decision-making under conditions of value-normative uncertainty (using the example of counteracting hate speech) made it possible to integrate the general cultural and professional competencies of law students, to involve students, who do not usually participate in discussions, in active group work. However, there are limitations to the use of the case method for integrating “hard” and “soft” skills: preparation for the lesson is resource-intensive for both teacher and students; case materials quickly become obsolete and require constant updating and processing; the choice of material and its presentation in the classroom require a special pedagogical tact and a clear arrangement of axiological accents. Discussion and Conclusion. The results can be used to develop educational cases where general cultural and professional competencies of law students can be integrated, as well as to teach students how to make decisions in the face of value and norm uncertainty and to carry out personal and professional development.

Exploring teaching as an upper secondary school teacher through lived experience offers pedagogical insights that have been challenged over a period of 25 years, when neoliberal educational policies gradually transformed the conditions for teaching in Swedish schools. The article is grounded in the assumption that the teaching profession is complex and there are multiple tacit dimensions inherent in being and becoming a teacher. Several of these dimensions are captured by the notion of pedagogical tact and have to be learned through practice. However, over the past few decades, the implementation of neoliberal policies in the Swedish education sector have changed the conditions for teaching, and created an area of tension between the teacher’s pedagogical alignment and the educational practices influenced by neoliberal values. The aim of the study is to describe how the author experienced these tensions, and what they meant for her becoming and being a teacher in three different pedagogical sites: a higher education preparatory program, a vocational preparatory program, and in adult education. The description is grounded in the lifeworld phenomenological approach and carried out through personal narrative.
