The labor market is a complex socio-economic phenomenon that requires constant monitoring and regulation. There are a significant number of definitions of this concept, which are significantly different and quite harmoniously complement each other. At the same time, scientists use complex, systemic and dialectical approaches. Scientists consider typical models of the labor market: American, Japanese, Swedish and Chinese, which differ in a number of key features and principles of operation. The labor market in the process of formation and functioning performs a number of functions: social division of labor; informational; mediational; professional counseling; regulatory; pricing; proportionality of the distribution of labor in accordance with the structure of social needs and the development of scientific and technological progress; reserve. Herewith, as a separate element of a market economy, it interacts with markets: capital, raw materials, information, educational and scientific services, health care, cultural and spiritual services, household and social services, housing, innovation, etc. The demand and supply of labor, its cost and price are the main elements of the labor market. Labor exists in the labor market as a specific commodity, which is characterized by a number of features different from other products of a market economy. In the process of buying and selling labor, a number of relations arise between the subjects of the labor market, which constitute a certain system. The ratio of supply and demand of labor, in other words conjuncture of market, are formed under the influence of internal and external factors of the labor market, as well as the level of employment and unemployment. There are three types of conjuncture of labor market: equilibrium, redundant labor and insufficient labor. Labor market conditions are changing due to the natural and mechanical movement of labor and jobs. In Ukraine, the labor market situation is characterized by structural disparities between labor supply and demand, which have become a chronic problem of the national economy. PEST-analysis as a marketing tool should be used to determine the importance of the influence of various factors on the formation conjuncture of labor market. It includes political, legal, economic, socio-cultural and technological factors of the external environment. Market instruments and partly means of active and passive state policy of employment regulation should be used to regulate the labor market. The main regulators will be to remain: the country's legislation, economic laws, the trade union movement and the media, national traditions, mentality, climatic and historical conditions of the country.

The article discusses the effective use of economic and mathematical methods in the field of rural employment in labor-surplus regions. A large place in the work belongs to the development of a criterion for the optimality of the labor market and limitations in the model. The main focus is on optimizing the supply and demand of labor in rural areas.

We document that government spending multipliers depend on the population age structure. Using the variation in military spending and birth rates across US states, we show that the local fiscal multiplier is 1.5 and increases with the population share of young people, implying multipliers of 1.1–1.9 in the interquartile range. A parsimonious life cycle open economy New Keynesian model with credit market imperfections and age-specific differences in labor supply and demand explains 87 percent of the relationship between local multipliers and demographics. The model implies that the US population aging between 1980 and 2015 caused a 38 percent drop in national government spending multipliers. (JEL D15, E12, E24, E62, J11, J22, J23)

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la inclusión económica juvenil en el mercado laboral del Ecuador en el periodo 2009 al 2019, tomando como referencia información de fuentes secundarias, correspondientes a la recopilación de evidencias investigativas como la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL), el Ministerio de Trabajo, el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (INEC), entre otras revisiones bibliográficas enfocadas en la situación real que atraviesan la mayoría de los jóvenes en el país, en base a los resultados obtenidos se establecen los factores más relevantes que determinan la empleabilidad, como son la educación, la oferta y demanda laboral, las condiciones socio-económicas, instituciones labores, entre otros que como consecuencia, ha disminuido el pleno empleo, el subempleo y por lo contrario el desempleo ha aumentado.   This article aims to analyze youth economic inclusion in the Ecuadorian labor market in the period 2009 to 2019, taking as reference information from secondary sources, corresponding to the compilation of investigative evidence such as the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Ministry of Labor, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), among other bibliographic reviews focused on the real situation that the majority of young people in the country go through, based on the results obtained establish the most relevant factors that determine employability, such as education, labor supply and demand, socio-economic conditions, labor institutions, among others, which as a consequence, has decreased full employment, underemployment and on the contrary, unemployment has increased.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to compare online labor platforms (OLPs) such as Upwork, Fiverr, YoungOnes and Temper with traditional temp agencies. At a first glance, OLPs and temp agencies strongly resemble each other while they aim to meet the need for short-term labor of organizations. The authors ask the question how these labor market intermediaries differ on issues such as information technology usage, ways how labor supply and demand are matched and working conditions (e.g. status, pay and social security of workers). Design/methodology/approach Next to a review of the academic literature, the authors conducted interviews with representatives of six OLPs and temp agencies in the Netherlands as well as a legal specialist in Dutch labor law. Findings The authors found that OLPs and temp agencies differ on several issues. First, although OLPs rely on online marketplaces for matching labor supply and demand, temp agencies generally rely on human matchmakers. Second, although OLPs enable workers and client organizations to initiate transactions themselves, temp agencies employ representatives that do the matching for workers and clients. Third, and as a result, OLPs afford client organizations to almost instantly hire workers on-demand, whereas the flexibility and speed that temp agencies can offer depend on availability and processing capacity of human matchmakers. Originality/value According to the authors’ knowledge, this paper is the first to compare OLPs and temp agencies and, in doing so, offers academics and practitioners an analytical framework to compare different types of labor market intermediaries.

The labor market occupies an important place in the conditions of modern development of economic relations. It is an element of the economic system and the welfare of the nation, social stability and effectiveness of social and economic transformations depend on the results of its functioning. The problems of labor market functioning, employment and unemployment are among the most important socio-economic problems. Insufficient theoretical study of the problem and its huge practical importance determined the relevance of the research. The article analyzes scientific and methodological approaches to the formation of the mechanisms of labor market functioning in the world. The article considers its particularity as a market, where a special commodity ‒ workforce ‒ is sold and bought. The role of the state in the creation and regulation of the labor market is researched. The great opportunities and prospects for fuller human self-realization, which the labor market provides, with the application of the new system of recruitment, are shown. To achieve the goal of the study, the following tasks were set and solved: the basic concepts of the international labor market were examined; the description of the international labor market with the history of its issue was given; the principles of its functioning were formulated; the system of basic indicators of the population`s economic activity, labor supply and demand, as well as the international labor market conditions were formed; the issues of statistical monitoring of international labor market functioning were reviewed; the main trends in the development of the international labor market were identified and the degree of individual factors` influence on them was determined by regression analysis models.

The monograph, based on the identification of trends and problems of changes in the demand and supply of skills, as well as the study of modern mechanisms of their formation and actualization, substantiates the priority areas of human resources development in the Russian Federation that meet the strategic challenges of the period of digital transformation of the labor sphere. The authors identify and systematize current and future trends related to changes in the demand for professions and skills in the Russian and global labor markets. The directions of transformation of the demand for skills and professions in the conditions of digitalization of the economy, skills and professions of the future are determined. Quantitative and qualitative imbalances and trends in labor supply and demand in the Russian labor market are identified (based on statistical analysis of data from 2009-2019). The features and problems of supply and demand of professions/skills in the segments of the Russian labor market covered by Internet recruitment are identified (based on data from resume parsing and vacancies of Internet recruitment portals in 2018 and 2020). Methodological approaches to identifying widely-and poorly-demanded skills are proposed and tested during the competence analysis of labor supply and demand using Big Data technologies.the competence profile of the vacancies of the professional core and extra - skills. An innovative author's approach to assessing the potential of skills capitalization — a possible increase in the salary of an applicant due to the expansion of the set of skills that he has-is proposed and tested. The current policy directions of formation and improvement of skills of the population in the Russian Federation are identified and systematized. The strategic challenges of the period of digital transformation of the labor sphere facing the Russian Federation and the priority areas of human resources development that meet these challenges are identified. The conclusions and recommendations can be used in the work of the Ministry of Labor of Russia, Rostrud, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Ministry of Education of Russia, government authorities, employment services of the Russian regions, as well as organizations of the professional education system.

The COVID-19 outbreak and the measures to contain the virus have caused severe disruptions to labor supply and demand worldwide. Understanding who is bearing the burden of the crisis and what drives it is crucial for designing policies going forward. Using the U.S. monthly Current Population Survey data, this paper analyzes differences in employment responses between men and women. The main finding is that less educated women with young children were the most adversely affected during the first nine months of the crisis.The loss of employment of women with young children due to the burden of additional childcare is estimated to account for 45 percent of the increase in the employment gender gap, and to reduce total output by 0.36 percent between April and November 2020.
