Piezoelectric energy harvesting is the process of extracting electrical energy using energy harvester devices. Any stress in the piezoelectric material will generate induced voltage. Previous energy harvester device with stiff cantilever beam was generated low harvested energy. A flexural piezoelectric energy harvester is proposed to improve the generated harvesting energy. Polyvinylidene difluoride is a polymer piezoelectric material attached to a flexible circuit made of polyimide. Four interdigitated electrode circuits were designed and outsourced for fabrication. The polyvinylidene difluoride was then attached to the interdigitated electrode circuit, and a single clear adhesive tape was used to bind them. Four piezoelectric energy harvesters and ultrasonic ceramic generators were experimentally tested using a sieve shaker. The sieve shaker contains a two-speed oscillator, with M1=0.025 m/s and M2=0.05 m/s. It was used to oscillate the energy harvester devices. The resulting induced voltages were then measured. Design 4, with the widest width of electrode fingers and the widest gap between electrode fingers, had the highest power generated at an output load of 0.745 µW with the M2 oscillation speed. The oscillation speed of the sieve shaker impacted the energy harvester devices as a higher oscillation speed gave higher generated power.

Abstract: Smart Seat: When a person seats on a seat, certain amount of pressure is applied on it. If we install certain amount of piezoelectric sensor in a seat. With the help of pressure, we can generate voltage. Piezoelectric sensor is a device that uses the piezoelectric effect, to measure changes in pressure, acceleration, temperature, strain, or force by converting them to an electrical charge. Using the sensor under the seat the pressure generated by a person seated on a chair can be sensed by sensor and generate electricity. Mainly piezoelectric material that can generate a voltage proportional to the stress applied upon it. This paper is based around this process. There will be springs attached under the seat also. When pressure is applied on the spring there will be equal pressure applied on a sensor which is attached in the bottom of every spring. With this we can generate a considerable amount of voltage to use it in future by storing it in a rechargeable battery. If the pressure is more applied on the sensor, then we can generate more voltage through the process. Keywords: Sensor, Battery, Piezoelectric, Seat, pressure.

AbstractThe object of this paper is the Saint-Venant torsion of a solid elliptical cylinder made of orthotropic homogeneous piezoelectric material. We find the shape of the homogeneous orthotropic piezoelectric elliptical cross section which does not warp under the applied torque. The sizes of the orthotropic piezoelectric solid elliptical cross section, which has the maximum value of torsional rigidity for a given cross-sectional area, are also determined.

In recent years, energy harvesting from ambient vibrations using piezoelectric materials has become the center of attention due to the fact that it has the potential to replace batteries, providing an easy way to power wireless and low power sensors and electronic devices. Piezoelectric material has been extensively used in energy harvesting technologies. However, the most commercially available and widely used piezoelectric materials are lead-based, Pb [ZrxTi1−x] O3 (PZT), which contains more than 60 weight percent lead (Pb). Due to its extremely hazardous effects on lead elements, there is a strong need to substitute PZT with new lead-free materials that have comparable properties to those of PZT. Lead-free lithium niobate (LiNbO3) piezoelectric material can be considered as a substitute for lead-based piezoelectric materials for vibrational energy scavenging applications. LiNbO3 crystal has a lower dielectric constant comparison to the conventional piezoceramics (for instance, PZT); however, at the same time, LiNbO3 (LN) single crystal presents a figure of merits similar to that of PZT, which makes it the most suitable choice for a vibrational energy harvester based on lead-free materials. The implementation was carried out using a global optimization approach including a thick single-crystal film on a metal substrate with optimized clamped capacitance for better impedance matching conditions. A lot of research shows that standard designs such as linear piezoelectric energy harvesters are not a prominent solution as they can only operate in a narrow bandwidth because of their single high resonant peak in their frequency spectrum. In this paper, we propose, and experimentally validate, a novel lead-free piezoelectric energy harvester to harness electrical energy from wideband, low-frequency, and low-amplitude ambient vibration. To reach this target, the harvester is designed to combine multi-frequency and nonlinear techniques. The proposed energy harvesting system consists of six piezoelectric cantilevers of different sizes and different resonant frequencies. Each is based on lead-free lithium niobate piezoelectric material coupled with a shape memory alloy (nitinol) substrate. The design is in the form of a circular ring to which the cantilevers are embedded to create nonlinear behavior when excited with ambient vibrations. The finite element simulation and the experimental results confirm that the proposed lead-free harvester design is efficient at low frequencies, particularly different frequencies below 250 Hz.

The generation of electricity by renewable energies is an important need of today's society. Piezoelectric energy harvesting is one of these useful technologies which can generate electricity by applying external force on piezoelectric material. This study illustrates more power generation from piezoelectric tile by changing the situation of piezo discs and connect to proportional electrical circuit. Two different designs of piezoelectric tile are presented by performing experimental analyses. The experimental results showed that placing piezoelectric elements in a bending position leads to higher power generation in comparison with traditional flat positioning, which was approximately 78 times far superior. It is also revealed that by design of an electrical circuit, the tile can be advantageous for lighting in crowded sidewalks with required lighting time. The results of this paper can be beneficial in the design and fabrication of these tiles for different applications.
