The description of the inhomogeneity of the cosmic ray spectrum in the region of 10 TV, which is observed in experimental data, in terms of isotropic diffusion from a single close source is considered. It is shown that such a description is possible, and the area of possible localization of the source in space and time and its energy are found. The method of penalty functions is used to account for the data on the spectrum of all particles.

Improvements in Radio-Isotope IDentification (RIID) algorithms have seen a resurgence in interest with the increased accessibility of machine learning models. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based models have been developed to identify arbitrary mixtures of unstable nuclides from gamma spectra. In service of this, methods for the simulation and pre-processing of training data were also developed. The implementation of 1D multi-class, multi-label CNNs demonstrated good generalisation to real spectra with poor statistics and significant gain shifts. It is also shown that even basic CNN architectures prove reliable for RIID under the challenging conditions of heavy shielding and close source geometries, and may be extended to generalised solutions for pragmatic RIID.

DS (David’s site) is one of the new archaeological sites documented in the same paleolandscape in which FLK 22 was deposited at about 1.85 Ma in Olduvai Gorge. Fieldwork in DS has unearthed the largest vertically-discrete archaeological horizon in the African Pleistocene, where a multi-cluster anthropogenic accumulation of fossil bones and stone tools has been identified. In this work we present the results of the techno-economic study of the lithic assemblage recovered from DS. We also explore the spatial magnitude of the technological behaviors documented at this spot using powerful spatial statistical tools to unravel correlations between the spatial distributional patterns of lithic categories. At DS, lavas and quartzite were involved in different technological processes. Volcanic materials, probably transported to this spot from a close source, were introduced in large numbers, including unmodified materials, and used in percussion activities and in a wide variety of reduction strategies. A number of volcanic products were subject to outward fluxes to other parts of the paleolandscape. In contrast, quartzite rocks were introduced in smaller numbers and might have been subject to a significantly more intense exploitation. The intra-site spatial analysis has shown that specialized areas cannot be identified, unmodified materials are not randomly distributed, percussion and knapping categories do not spatially overlap, while bipolar specimens show some sort of spatial correlation with percussion activities.

To chapter concerns emerging cybernetics, which is the school of “meaning to lead” and is particularly associated with the idea of dominations and controls. This chapter initially anatomizes the sociology of software cybernetics into two broad movements—free/libre and open source software (FLOSS) and proprietary close source software (PCSS)—to argue a good software governance approach. This chapter discusses (a) in what matters and (b) for what reasons software governance of Turkey has locked into the ecosystems of PCSS and, in particular, considers causes, effects, and potential outcomes of not utilizing FLOSS in the state of Turkey. The government has continuously stated that there are no compulsory national or international conventions(s) and settlement(s) with the ecosystems of PCSS and that there is no vendor lock-in concern. Nevertheless, the chapter principally argues that Turkey has taken a pragmatic decision-making process of software in the emerging cybernetics that leads and contributes to techno-social externality of PCSS hegemonic stability.

Abstract The article presents the developed methods for diagnosing and analysing signals from injection systems of marine engines. As a source signal, the authors use elastic waves of acoustic emission. The essential fact in the case here considered is that the high frequency of signal from working elements of the injection system comes from a close source directly related to the change of the working parameters of the element (system). Characteristically for elastic waves of acoustic emission, low frequencies (e.g. those from other sources, such as machines in the engine room) are in this case attenuated. Therefore, the proper selection of the method for the analysis allows us accurately diagnose the injection system of a working engine.

Investigating the sociology of educational technology can be approached through a series of deliberations based on the interaction between Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and Proprietary Close Source Software (PCSS). This article consults public policy discourses of the Fatih project, which is the current educational technology project in Turkey, particularly focusing on discourses of politicians. This article argues that Turkey has been deploying an Anglo-Governance Model, which is based on an ‘experimental' and ‘strategic' governance, to be a dominating decision-maker in the technological singularity. However, without defining 'values' of FLOSS, any initiative(s) from Anglo-Governance Model will result in what could be referred to as an ‘PCSS-Based Polycentric System' in which the Government has ultimately became an unwelcome decision-maker and PCSS, particularly in such a way that giant corporations exercise dominance over the sociology of educational technology in Turkey.
