Binary opposition is the most important aspect that can reveal how humans think, how humans produce meaning and understand reality (Culler, 1976). Therefore, the discovery of binary oppositions is useful in providing clues to the workings of human reason. In the context of narrative analysis, binary opposition can reveal how the logic behind a narrative is made. Based on this, this study highlights how the formation of binary opposition contained in the novel "Lettres de Mon Moulin" by Alphonse Daudet uses Lévi Strauss's theory of binary opposition (1955) and structural analysis using Freytag's plot theory (1863). The corpus of the research consists of six stories contained in the novel forming a binary opposition. After doing the analysis, it was found that a pair of words with binary opposition were included in the exclusive category and two pairs of words that were included in the non-exclusive binary opposition category. From these findings, it was found that the author of the novel, Daudet, gave directions on what was good and bad by giving a clear line of separation. This is in line with the context of making stories during the industrial revolution, which mapped the world into two things, namely traditional and modern life.

In this study, an instrument has been designed for the motivational climate observation through the verbal and proxemic behaviour analysis in monitors who impart physical maintenance activity. It is an instrument that allows to differentiate the motivational climate favoured by the trainer, as well as the distribution of the participants and the proxemic. The instrument combines field format, comprehensive and mutually exclusive category systems (E/ME), and rating scales. It consists of 10 criteria and 44 categories in total, each of which (except for those criteria that were not possible) has rating scales. The name of the instrument is IAFD (Interaction in Physical Activity and Sport). The recording, visualization and analysis of seven physical maintenance sessions in the Municipal Sports Centre of the city of Ronda was carried out, analysing the verbal and proxemic behaviours of two monitors. An analysis of Data Quality and an analysis of Generalizability was carried out, obtaining satisfactory results in terms of the reliability, validity and precision of the instrument, invariance between the two monitors, as well as the capacity of generalization.

The organization of Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAMMI) of UIN Mataram is one of the student organizations that often use some Arabic vocabularies in its communication. The research would see the existence of Arabic language in this organization including competence, transformation of social identity and the relationship of the religious attitude of its members. The study used the social identity theory and the models of religious attitudes. The result showed that the Arabic competence of KAMMI members was not very high. The Arabic language frequently used by KAMMI members becomes their social identity even though it is only at a limited level of communication. Their religious attitude was categorized as an exclusive category with accompanying attributes such as code switching of Arabic language in daily dialogue, wearing labelled syar‘i clothes and make themselves feel to be more Islamic with these attributes.

Objective Assess interpretative variation in Nottingham grading using control charts (CCs) and in silico kappa (ISK). Methods In house invasive breast cancer cases (2011–2019) at two institutions with a synoptic report were extracted. Pathologist interpretative rates (PIRs) were calculated and normed for Nottingham grade (G) and its components (tubular score (TS), nuclear score (NS), mitotic score (MS)) for pathologists interpreting >35 cases. ISKs were calculated using the ordered mutually exclusive category assumption (OMECA) and maximal categorical overlap assumption (MCOA). Results The study period included 1,994 resections. Ten pathologists each assessed 38–441 cases and together saw 1,636; these were further analyzed. The PIR medians (normed ranges) were: G1:24%(18–27%), G2:53%(43–56%) and G3:26%(19–33%). The MCOA ISK and the number of statistical outliers (p< 0.05/p< 0.001) to the group median interpretive rate (GMIR) for the ten pathologists was G1: 0.82(2/0 of 10), G2: 0.76(1/1), G3: 0.71(3/1), TS1: 0.79(1/0), TS2: 0.63(5/1), TS3: 0.66(5/1), NS1: 0.37(5/4), NS2: 0.60(4/3), NS3: 0.59(4/4), MS1: 0.78(3/1), MS2: 0.78(3/1), MS3: 0.77(2/0). The OMECA ISK was 0.62, 0.49, 0.69 and 0.71 for TS, NS, MS and G. Conclusions The nuclear score has the most outliers. NS1 appears to be inconsistently used. ISK mirrors trends in conventional kappa studies. CCs and ISK allow insight into interpretive variation and may be essential for the next generation in quality.

In late medieval miracle narrations, women formed the majority of victims of demonic possession, even if not an exclusive category. General ideas and theories about both women’s physiology and morality facilitated their labelling as demoniacs. Women’s bodies were deemed to be more open and many normal functions of the female body were considered impure. This chapter’s structure follows the female life course, focusing on corporeality’s links with demonic presence. Menarche, (the loss of) virginity, marriage, pregnancy, and giving birth were closely linked with religiously imbued changes in social position which caused anxiety. The paucity of cases connected to signposts of physical growth and social maturing implies, however, that the link between female corporeality and sexuality and the demonic was not inevitably made in the minds of laity testifying in canonization processes. Instead, demons’ role was to give voice to fears and uncertainties when something went wrong during these precarious situations.

The medieval cartulary is well known as a major source for documents. This article takes Scotland as a case study for examining how the understanding of medieval cartularies has been shaped by those works extensively used by researchers to access cartularies and their texts – in a Scottish context this is principally the antiquarian publications and modern catalogues. Both pose their own problems for scholars seeking to understand the medieval cartulary. After an in-depth examination of these issues, a radical solution is offered which shifts the attention onto the manuscripts themselves. Such an approach reveals those extant cartularies to be fundamentally varied, and not an exclusive ‘category’ as such. This in turn allows historians to appreciate the dynamic nature of cartularies as sources for documents, and to eschew the deeply embedded tendency to see the cartulary simply as a copy of a medieval archive.

<p>Feminism firmly stands in the front line when it comes to the confrontation against injustice and oppression. Yet, feminism has become too exclusive for the subject of women and privileged for sub-groups like whites and middle-class, who stand as a whole category. By then, feminism is stuck in a time warp as it is unable to diminish the oppression of binary gender and its exclusive category. Under the framework of post-structuralist feminism theory, post-feminism is defined as a positive development of feminism that offers more comprehensive thinking. This research aims to identify the ideas of post-feminism and analyze how the shifting values of feminism towards post-feminism occur. Through interpretive methods, the researcher identified that post-feminism was about the deconstruction of the subject 'women' and inter-sectionalism. The millennial paradigm shifts in the United States allowed the creation of preferences that was diverse and unlimited to a specific gender perspective. Thus, the political preferences of feminists were not only limited to the assumption of women that should choose a female president. Therefore, supporters of the millennial wave phenomena of Bernie Sanders in the primary caucus of Democratic Party of US elections in 2016 became one of the reflections of the millennial post-feminism ideas.</p>

The study discusses the impact of the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on an already tightened rural labour market through a field survey conducted in two villages of Rajasthan. The article argues that the impact of the programme in a constricted rural labour market has been marginal because of a low off-take of work because of already developed alternate livelihood strategies which reduced the incentive to work in this programme. Nevertheless, the scheme has been instrumental in two ways: first, it led to the withdrawal of lower caste women from agricultural work which signifies an escape from the exploitative production relations in the two villages under study; and second, it has resulted in the formation of an exclusive category of MGNREGA workers consisting of female workers from the middle castes who were previously were not participating in paid labour.
