The Muslim tourist segment is regarded as one of the demanding segments in the tourism industry at the current state. It is understood that Muslim travelers prefer to select tourist destinations that bear Islamic elements thus allowing for activities to be done based on religious norms. This would include facilities for prayers, having Halal food and beverages, are liquor-free, and abide by Islamic dress codes; among others. These elements undoubtedly will provide an enriching experience during their travels. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to investigate Muslim travelers’ perception regarding accommodation experiences that Muslim travelers encounter during their stay to realign with Muslim traveller’s needs and preferences. Evolution is a prominent component of biology education and remains controversial among college biology students in the United States who are mostly Christian, but science education researchers have not explored the attitudes of Muslim biology students in the United States. To explore perceptions of evolution among Muslim students in the United States, we surveyed 7,909 college students in 52 biology classes in 13 states about their acceptance of evolution, interest in evolution, and understanding of evolution. Muslim students in our sample, on average, did not agree with items that measured acceptance of macroevolution and human evolution. Further, on average, Muslim students agreed, but did not strongly agree with items measuring microevolution acceptance. Controlling for gender, major, race/ethnicity, and international status, we found that the evolution acceptance and interest levels of Muslim students were slightly higher than Protestant students and students who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, Muslim student evolution acceptance levels were significantly lower than Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, and Hindu students as well as students who did not identify with a religion (agnostic and atheists). Muslim student understanding of evolution was similar to students from other affiliations, but was lower than agnostic and atheist students. We also examined which variables are associated with Muslim student acceptance of evolution and found that higher understanding of evolution and lower religiosity are positive predictors of evolution acceptance among Muslim students, which is similar to the broader population of biology students. These data are the first to document that Muslim students have lower acceptance of evolution compared to students from other affiliations in undergraduate biology classrooms in the United States.

Muslim students are words that combine two identities, namely the seeker of knowledge and submission to Allah S.W.T. If these two elements are combined, then a Muslim student has no way for him except to make the Quran as a source of guidance. Surah al-Fatihah is a solution that can be the qibla of the formation of a Muslim student because without the application of this surah the knowledge required can be less blessed, worship will be lame, the formation of identity will not be balanced, communication between servants and creators will face deadlock. What is certain is that surah al-Fatihah is the determinant of the acceptance of prayer, the medium of communication between human beings and creators, all of which have a profound effect on the process of character formation of a student’s life. Surah al-Fatihah is placed at the earliest in the order of mushaf al-Quran as a guide in doing, thinking, acting and behaving in living life, especially in seeking knowledge. Surah al-Fatihah as part of the Quran is certainly not left behind in paying attention to the development of the character of a student’s thinking. This is reflected in the declaration of the reciter to be with Allah S.W.T, not asking except to the Almighty, not doing except under the presence of meetings with the ruler of the Day of Judgment, his days are filled with worship and prayer, always alert to the wrath of Allah S.W.T and the danger of misguided thoughts and understandings that are not in line with the Quran. This paper can to some extent give a new formula in our thoughts and actions through the study of surah al-Fatihah starting from the concept of maiatullah, seeking sustenance, doomsday, worship, and prayer.

This research was conducted with a quantitative approach. The data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to 122 students of the Management study program, Faculty of Business and Economics, Islamic University of Indonesia. The data was processed using SPSS analysis tools with hierarchical regression analysis techniques. The results demonstrated religiosity and emotional intelligence had a positive impact on learning motivation; learning motivation positively impacted learning achievement. Furthermore, learning motivation mediated the correlation between religiosity and emotional intelligence on learning achievement. The results offer practical implications for campus leaders; Campus leaders should instill religiosity and emotional intelligence in Muslim students to improve their learning achievement.

While IUIU policies allow students to officially get married the same institution does not allow babies in halls of residence yet it has not put in place the necessary facilities and arrangements on campus to enable them juggle their multiple roles as Married Muslim Student Mothers (MMSM) in completing their academic undertakings. This poses a challenge due to constrained finances that make it difficult due to inability to pay maid thus causing frustrations which later affects their academic performance. The research adopted a Feminism theory and other supporting theories to explore the experiences of married Muslim student mothers, husbands support, institutional policies, challenges and coping strategies. The study was allocated within a qualitative research paradigm and involved semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of 30 undergraduate university married Muslim student mothers. Key findings were that the married Muslim student mothers’ experiences were child care and excess workload: husbands’ support included emotional and financial support: institutional support comprised of lack of child care support, support from lectures, family and friends: challenges involved time management, lack of support from lecturers, transport costs, excess workload, fixed timetables and lack of social and financial support: coping strategies included time management skills, faith and Allah, assistance with child care, creating extra time and advise. These findings have implications for policy in terms of empowerment, support to enable them to amalgamate competing roles of student mothers. MMSM operate in a family system which influences their decisions hence failure to make independent decisions but rather seek approval from their husbands. If MMSM are to succeed with their endeavors of completing their education while married they should submit to their husband in order to receive emotional and financial support to fulfill their academic dreams and a better future.
