The purpose of this article is to disclose the strenuous efforts of Laszlo Hudec in China and Antonin Raymond in Japan and India to create a modern architectural stance by heralding an incipient space syntax. In the turn of the 19th Century, for dynastic, politic and economic reasons, Eastern Asia had very little modern Architecture. It is a surprising fact that, out of happenstance, two European architects Antonin Raymond and Laszlo Hudec, had to intervene to remedy this situation, to the point of becoming 20th Century icons in Japan and China. Their fruitful careers spanned over thirty years and included locations, like Tamil Nadu or the Philippines. The Oriental territories were not an easy ground for the bold architectural achievements that they produced. Despite of faraway strangeness and uncountable personal losses, in revolutions and wars, which eventually forced them both to leave for the United States of America and never to return, they were successful in the manner of establishing a broad avenue for Modern Asian Architecture which is still recognisable today thanks to their systematic approach. However, theirs is an endangered heritage and the intention of this article is to be a just remembrance of in which way such actions could be performed, how they predated by many years a syntactic approach to architectural composition and why their legacy should be preserved.

We obtain a new and non-trivial characterization of periodic rings (that are those rings $R$ for which, for each element $x$ in $R$, there exists two different integers $m$, $n$ strictly greater than $1$ with the property $x^m=x^n$) in terms of nilpotent elements which supplies recent results in this subject by Cui--Danchev published in (J. Algebra \& Appl., 2020) and by Abyzov--Tapkin published in (J. Algebra \& Appl., 2022). Concretely, we state and prove the slightly surprising fact that an arbitrary ring $R$ is periodic if, and only if, for every element~$x$ from $R$, there are integers $m>1$ and $n>1$ with $m\not= n$ such that the difference $x^m-x^n$ is a nilpotent.

The increase in the number of motorized vehicles can be seen from the data released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) explaining that in 2019 the number of vehicles spread in Indonesia reached more than 133 million units where this number increased by around 5.3% compared to the previous two years. The distribution of the total number of vehicles consists of motorcycles, private cars, freight cars and buses. Of the total number of vehicles circulating in Indonesia in 2020, DKI Jakarta contributed about 17% or 20 million vehicles to the total, where the number of vehicles also increased very significantly compared to the previous year. Another surprising fact is that the number of vehicles circulating in Jakarta exceeds the population of Jakarta based on population census data in 2020 which only reached 10.56 million people. However, in 2020 a decline in sales in new car transactions due to the Covid-19 pandemic was also unavoidable so that it became a challenge for PT Maybank Indonesia Finance, especially for customers who had already made transactions, of course, to maintain retention from these customers so that the intention to make transactions emerged. /buyback through PT Maybank Indonesia Finance, which this requires appropriate and effective strategies. This research is a quantitative study with 111 respondents spread across DKI Jakarta, using SMARTPLS 3.3 data processing. The results of the study show that all of the hypotheses studied in this study have a significant influence, so that PT Maybank Indonesia Finance must pay attention to many things to maintain customer retention for re-transactions.

The pairwise comparison (PC) matrix is often used to manifest human judgments, and it has been successfully applied in the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). As a PC matrix is formed by making paired reciprocal comparisons, symmetry is a striking characteristic of a PC matrix. It is this simple but powerful means of resolving multicriteria decision-making problems that is the basis of AHP; however, in practical applications, human judgments may be inconsistent. Although Saaty’s rule for the consistency test is commonly accepted, there is evidence that those so-called “acceptable” PC matrices may not be ordinally consistent, which is a necessary condition for a PC matrix to be accepted. We propose an ordinal consistency indicator called SDR (standard deviation of ranks), derive the upper bound of the SDR, suggest a threshold for a decision-maker to assess whether the ordinal consistency of a PC matrix is acceptable, and reveal a surprising fact that the degree of ordinal inconsistency of a small PC matrix may be more serious than a large one. We made a comparative analysis with some other indicators. Experimental results showed that the ordinal inconsistency measured by the SDR is invariant under heterogeneous judgment measurements with a varied spectrum of scales, and that the SDR is superior to the two compared indicators. Note that the SDR not only works for a multiplicative PC matrix but can also be used for additive and fuzzy PC matrices.

A tetramer model was investigated of a remarkably stable iodine-containing supramolecular capsule that was most recently characterized by other authors, who described emergent features of the capsule’s formation. In an attempt to address the surprising fact that no strong pair-wise interactions between any of the respective components were experimentally detected in condensed phases, the DFT (density-functional theory) computational model was used to decompose the total stabilization energy as a sum of two-, three- and four-body contributions. This model considers complexes formed between either iodine or bromine and the crucial D4h-symmetric form of octaaryl macrocyclic compound cyclo[8](1,3-(4,6-dimethyl)benzene that is surrounded by arenes of a suitable size, namely, either corannulene or coronene. A significant enthalpic gain associated with the formation of investigated tetramers was revealed. Furthermore, it is shown that the total stabilization of these complexes is dominated by binary interactions. Based on these findings, comments are made regarding the experimentally observed behavior of related multicomponent mixtures.

Since the pre-independence era, India is dealing with a variety of health problems that have been eliminated in developed nations. As we prepare to enter post covid era, a problem which we are dealing since ages is child promotion and child survival. India is a nuclear weapon-affiliated country now but it still has a long way to go as far as child malnutrition is concerned. It is a surprising fact to know that the prevalence of malnutrition in India is double that of sub-Saharan country.[1] It has been 45 years since the launch of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and we still have 35.8% of undernourished children in our country makes one think about the drawbacks in our current approach. [2] There are a wide variety of reasons for decreased weight inchildren under the age of 5. Interestingly inadequate food security is considered as one of the primary reasons, however,it does not justify the 20.1% of underweight children belonging to high socioeconomic status.[2] Other reasons include infections i.e. diarrhea and acute respiratory infections in children and it could be attributed to a moderate rate (approximately 62%) of immunization in the under 5 age group.[2]

This paper examines the history of “Kitab Sunda”, which was written in Sundanese language but with Arabic letter, by Shaikh Mukhtar (1862 – 1930) in Mecca and printed in Cairo and Mecca. While most intellectual works in the Middle East were written in Arabic, there is convincing indication that they were written in non-Arabic language. It is surprising fact that many religious-based works (Islam) were written in Arabic letter, but they used Javanese, Malay and Sundanese. One of important agents of Muslim scholar who purposely used Sundanese language in his work is Shaikh Mukhtar. The writer, born in Bogor (West Java), was a great ulama (Muslim scholar) in Mecca. He was connected with ulama from nusantara and Middle East network in the turn of 19 and 20 century. During the important period, there were some ulama from Sunda who were teaching in Mecca. Some of them wrote books printed in several cities in the Middle East such as Mecca, Cairo and Istanbul. Shaikh Mukhtar is well-known as pioneer of authorship and publicity of Kitab Sunda in Middle East since the early 20th century.  Before this period, religious works of ulama nusantara written in nusantara language and printed in the Middle East, only written in Malay language and Javanese.  In the Middle East, history of authorship of kitab Sunda was initiated by Shaikh Mukhtar. This achievement is important not only to introduce Sundanese language as the intelectual language in the Middle East through his works, but also inspire his disciple to produce intellectual works in their mother tongue. By means of historical and bibliography of region approach, this study traces the role of Suandanese ulama in Middle East in the early 20th century.

The management of the global pandemic outbreak due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been challenging with no exact dedicated treatment nor established vaccines at the beginning of the pandemic. Nonetheless, the situation seems to be better controlled with the recent COVID-19 vaccines roll-out globally as active immunisation to prevent COVID-19. The extensive usage and trials done in recent outbreak in China has shown the effectiveness of traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) in improving the wellbeing of COVID-19 patients. Therefore, COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment guidelines has listed a number of recommended concoctions meant for COVID-19 patients. Licorice, more commonly known as Gancao in Chinese Pinyin, is known as one of the most frequently used ingredients in TCM prescriptions for treatment of epidemic diseases. Interestingly, it is deemed as food ingredient as well, where it is normally used in Western cuisines’ desserts and sweets. The surprising fact that licorice appeared in the top 10 main ingredients used in TCM prescriptions in COVID-19 has drawn great attention from researchers in revealing its biological potential in overcoming this disease. To date, there are no comprehensive review on licorice and its benefits when used in COVID-19. Thus, in this current review, the possible benefits, mechanism of actions, safety and limitations of licorice were explored in hope to provide a quick reference guide for its preclinical and clinical experimental set-up in this very critical moment of pandemic.

Abstract Enumeration of very small quantities is a common task that we perform everyday. Much research has highlighted that in these conditions humans display fast, near errorless performance, a phenomenon dubbed subitizing. It has been suggested that this regime has a pivotal role in numerosity perception. Here we asked if this system can process multiple sets of items in parallel. At odds with what happens for moderate numerosities, we found a strong impairment caused already by the introduction of a second group of items marked by a different color. Adding shape as a cue provided no benefit. The only case in which subitizing was possible was when the target and distractor group were held constant through the experimental block. These results show the surprising fact that whilst being rapid and errorless, subitizing does not have the capability to disentangle multiple groups of items and deals only with coarse stimulus statistics.

Although anchoring research has explored personality moderators for at least 13 years, it has not produced any robust findings. The reason for this surprising fact is rooted in the problem that most anchoring tasks have unacceptable reliability levels. In a preregistered experiment, we introduce a paradigm that we call the stepwise anchoring paradigm. It is based on the incumbent insufficient adjustment model of anchoring and previous research by Frech et al. (2020). Using the stepwise anchoring paradigm and estimates of animals’ weights, we reliably measured parameters of anchoring effects and investigated whether these parameters were correlated with theoretically relevant personality traits (i.e., cognitive reflection and impulsiveness). The reliability of the number of adjustment steps was acceptable (α = .749, 12 items, N = 123) and much higher than the reliability of the total adjustment (α = .399), which has previously been used as an indicator of susceptibility to anchoring. However, we found no correlations between anchoring parameters and impulsivity or cognitive reflection. Thus, a method for reliably measuring the susceptibility to anchoring is now available, but personality traits that may be related to this variable have yet to be identified.
