This chapter has the aim to analyze the implications and interrelationships between a sustainable urban agro ecology and the food system. The beginning assumption of this analytical review considers that sustainable urban agro ecology has positive implications in the development of a sustainable urban food system. The analysis is based on the theoretical and empirical literature review confronted with common spatial-functional observations of urban development and configurations. The analysis concludes that the sustainable urban food system based on agro ecology is growing as an alternative movement towards the building and maintenance of a fairer and healthier urban sustainable environmental development.

This chapter is aimed to analyze the system of green resilience eco-urban land uses oriented in urban social-ecological systems. It reviews and analyses the relevant literature in green social-ecosystem resilience concept and presents a discussion in relation to the sustainable development and ecological sustainability. It further discusses and gives an in-depth overview of the urban social ecosystems as a working structural and functional unit, describes decision support tools that could be applied to sustainable green land uses and development, and offers some strategies for engaging in urban ecosystems, ecological sustainability and adaptive development. It is concluded that the urban land use that through the innovative pro-environmental solutions can, in a natural way, support the system of green resilience eco-oriented urban land uses in urban eco-systems and serve to improve the quality of life in the city.

Since the emergence of the industrial revolution, the use of energy resources has increased considerably, particularly non renewable (coal, oil and gas), so these resources are no longer sufficient to cover the different energy needs, and this has become a challenge to the energy independance of many gouvernment now and in the future. This has caused the world to scramble for other ways to satisfy these needs in which the results of scientific research and development envolved from alternative uses of old energy sources and named green economy, and many think about the future of energy despite the barriers that still hinder the general application of this type of economy. Energy consumption in Algeria is focused almost entirely on fossil fuels, hydrocarbons, and gas in particular. In recent years, Algeria is deciding to move intro the green economy, the unique solution for meeting future energy requirements and helping reduce environmental risks.

This chapter has the objective to analyze the urban ecology, the biological diversity or biodiversity, and their adaptive cycle as the fundamentals of green economic growth. The analysis begins questioning the implications that some assumptions of urban ecology and biodiversity, such as the socio-ecosystems, resilience, ecosystem services, and adaptive cycle have on the creation of green economic growth. A series of different dimensions of resilience are proposed as subsystems that contribute to the general resilience of a system. The method used is the analytical based on a review of the conceptual and theoretical literature. This analysis concludes that the connectivity of processes and functions of urban ecology and biodiversity are relevant to the creation of green economic growth in terms of green economic value.

Water is the sole reason for the existence of life and prime nutrient to sustain it. So, it becomes extremely important to preserve wastewater to utilize it efficiently for various purposes. The methods and techniques that have the least investment capital, qualitative output, and environment-friendly content are desired. Such unaccustomed methods are our hope for a cleaner, safer, and brighter future. This chapter revolves around the methods employed to brawl the threats posed to the viability of water at earth from emerging contaminants and the efforts made by mankind to prevent it. Nanotechnology has potent attributes for water decontamination. Several nanotech-based devices, methods, and treatments have been used in recent times for wastewater treatment such as nanomembranes, nano photocatalysts, nano-cellulose, nano-absorbent, and nanocomposite materials. The chapter discusses these contemporary developments in nano-based technologies and the various advancements, which have been recently made in conventional techniques used for wastewater treatment technologies.

Kenya, just like other developing countries of the world, is energy deficient. Power supply is characterized by flaws including inaccessibility by marginalized rural communities, high cost of electricity, power outages, and over-reliance on biomass and hydropower sources. Despite these trends, the country has great potential to produce green energy including wind, biofuels, solar, and geothermal power in excess of the entire country's demand. This chapter explores the status of each of these green energy sources and their production potential using in Kenya. Findings show that the production capacity for all of the sources is high though limited tapping and harnessing of these energy resources is done. This could be attributable to lack of exploitation technology and expertise, huge capital investments involved and the uncertainty on the effects of these renewable energy sources to food and water security. For optimal exploitation, Kenya must invest in the energy sector hugely to enhance technical know-how on its development and cater for the associated financial opportunity costs.

This chapter aims to summarize the literature comprising several variables crucial for sustainable development and the examination of causal linkages existing among these variables. This chapter explores the existing literature related to the causality-testing techniques used by several researchers and academicians in the field of sustainable development. This study sums up with a wide variety of existing causality-testing techniques in the literature (both conventional and latest/improved ones). Still, researchers are making efforts for further studies and strive to continually look for examining these causal linkages in a better way. Although several variables have been used in previous studies to explore the causality relationships for sustainable development, it seems there is no limit to the number of such explanatory variables. Therefore, causality testing for sustainable development has a broader scope always for further research advancements in this area.

This project aims to study the feasibility of visual computing (VC) and machine learning (ML) method applied in the textile recycle industry for efficiently manages the post-consumer textile waste. It includes an image-based VC technology for supporting textile waste reuse and resale, and a material identification system for sorting textile materials by using near infrared (NIR)/hyperspectral spectroscopy technology to support efficiently recycling to reuse the textile fibre will be evaluated. The process involved collecting and validating reference samples and applying ML technique to auto recognize the garment type and features applying visual technology; afterward, the sorted garments would be measured and pre-treated by NIR/hyperspectral spectrum and building up the parameters for spectral patterns calculation for recycling process recover the fibre. The main part of the study is to proof of the concept for using VC and ML method for identifying the textile fibre in the recycling process.

Energy is an important issue for achieving sustainable development. Sustainable Development Goals emphasize renewable energy sources, green energy technologies, and energy efficiency for sustainable world. In addition, energy consumption patterns can influence energy efficiency as much as green energy policies. In this point, sustainable consumption patterns should be adapted into energy consumption. 3R principle can be an alternative model for sustainable energy consumption. This study aims to explore how household can adapt 3R principle in energy consumption patterns in Turkey. Turkey aims to achieve sustainable development goals and especially works to achieve energy security and efficiency in the long term. In this point, the contribution of households will play a critical role for energy efficiency and security in a country. The study analyzed open access data from TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Institute) to determine the framework of household energy consumption patterns.
