A positive future for futures and foresight science needs fierce competition in the marketplace of ideas: A commentary on Fergnani and Chermack 2021

This is a commentary on a target article by Fergnami and Chermack. It addresses the issue of how the study of futures and foresight can ensure a scientific future. I comment on two aspects of the authors' essay: first, their emphasis on theory development, which I believe is overemphasized (at the cost of an emphasis on method) and, second, their aspiration for reconciliation among scientists, consultants and ideologies. I propose that consensus-seeking is overrated and scientists should focus on competing in the marketplace of ideas.

The development of visual communication media at this time is very helpful in supporting information and communication. But often presented visual communication  media  are  less  effective  and appropriate. While so many universities in Indonesia, the increasingly fierce competition in attracting new students. Media Visual Communication can be applied to college in introducing or raising the image and popularity or promote and provide information to prospective students. In essence, in this case the effectiveness of media campaigns assessed in spreading information, influence or persuade prospective students and new student to join the university. The method used by the questionnaires to assess the effectiveness of implemented that have been implemented such as  brochures,  banners, posters, billboards, catalogs, paper bag,  flyers  and  merchandise.  In  conclusion,  this  article specifically assess visual communication media from case studies in Perguruan Tinggi Raharja considered effective and consistent contribution.. This study found a great opportunity to improve the promotion of additional digital marketing media campaign called the college through the  stages resulting in some visual communication media that can be received by the target audience. To create a media campaign needs planning in accordance with the background of the problem so that the media are made to overcome the problems encountered

The goal of this article is to examine the introduction of plantations into East Sumatra (Indonesia) in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Attention is given to the five most important plantation crops, namely tobacco, rubber, oil palm, tea, and fiber. The article analyzes the economic and social transformation of the region as a consequence of the rapid expansion of plantations. Within a short period of time, East Sumatra emerged to become one of the most dynamic economic regions of Southeast Asia. The development of the region and the needs of a source of protection for Dutch planters in face of fierce competition from other Western companies and local resistance encouraged the Dutch colonial government to establish effective authority in East Sumatra. As technology advances at this time, players in business are aware of the importance of product quality in the increasingly fierce competition in the industrial world due to the emergence of many similar companies. Therefore, companies must be able to compete to meet customer desires and try to retain customers. To maintain customers and their marketing areas, companies must have high competitiveness in order to survive by prioritizing quality improvement, increasing efficiency and increasing productivity to improve quality because by increasing quality, products can be accepted among consumers so that company goals can be fulfilled. Therefore, the company must carry out effective quality control which will result in high productivity, lower overall cost of making goods and the factors that cause production failure to be minimized. To improve quality, use the six sigma method, DMAIC and seven tools so that it can be known the cause of the damage and what actions are taken so that there needs to be a controversy to stabilize the processes of the production process so that we can know what percentage of damage and what factors cause damage, therefore there must be measurements and recommendations for improvement and control to reduce the causes From the analysis, it was found that the dent cup was 20.36%, the lid was 21.36% less dense, the lid was damaged in the finished product 18.72%, the cup was 19.28% less thick, the packaging was flexible 20.55%Seiring kemajuan teknologi pada saat ini pelaku di bisnis menyadari akan pentingnya kualitas produk dalam persaingan dunia industri yang semakin ketat karena banyak bermunculan perusahaan-perusahaan sejenis. Oleh sebab itu perusahaan harus dapat bersaing untuk memenuhi keinginan  pelanggan dan berusaha dapat mempertahankan pelanggan. Untuk mempertahankan pelangan dan wilayah pemasaranya perusahaan-perusahaan harus mempunyai daya saing yang tinggi untuk dapat bertahan dengan mengutamakan peningkatan mutu, peningkatan efisiensi dan peningkatan produktivitas untuk meningkatkan kualitas karena dengan peningkatan kualitas, produk dapat diterima di kalangan konsumen sehingga tujuan perusahaan dapat terpenuhi. Maka dari itu perusahaan harus melakukan pengendalian kualitas yang efektif akan menghasilkan produktivitas yang tinggi, biaya pembuatan barang keseluruhan yang lebih  rendah serta  faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan kegagalan produksi akan dapat ditekan sekecil mungkin. Untuk meningkatkan kualitas mengunakan metode six sigma, DMAIC dan seven tools agar dapat diketahui penyebab  kerusakan  dan  tindakan  apa  saja  yang dilakukan sehingga perlu ada kontror untuk menstabilkan  peoses proses produksi sehinga dapat di ketahui berapa persen  kerusakan dan faktor-faktor apa saja yang menyebabkan  kerusakan maka dari itu harus ada pengukuran dan  rekomendasi perbaikan serta melakukan kontrol untuk mengurangi penyebab kerusakan. Dari hasil analisis  di ketahui cup  penyok 20,36%, lid kurang  rapat  21,36%, lid  rusak  pada produk jadi 18,72%,cup kurang tebal 19,28 %kemasan lentur 20,55%

<p>Highly competition requires university to be more sensitive to the interest students as one of stakeholders. Polytechnic LP3I Jakarta Campus Cimone has many competitors amid the dynamics of increasingly fierce competition of higher education. This research aims to analyze the effect of Service quality, Price and Brand Image of Students Satisfaction. A theory used in research is based on opinion from Andriyani, Suwandi Mananeke &amp; Taroreh, Fatriansyah. There is an effect between Service Quality, Price and Brand Image to Customer Satisfaction. This research use a quantitative method by distributing a questionnaire. The amount of population are 408 students and the sample is 80 people by Slovin formulas. Based on research result using linear regression analysis multiple SPSS version 20 indicated that: The independent variable Service Quality, Price and Brand Image jointly tested by F test proved positive and significant influence on the Student Satisfaction and the magnitude of the effect seen from the coefficient of determination (R<sub>2</sub>) was 41,8 %. To test the hypothesis of the use F test and t test. While price do not have effect significant influence on students satisfaction.</p><p> </p><strong>Keywords:</strong> service quality, price, brand image, student’s satisfaction

ABSTRACT We study the interaction between interbank competition and accounting information quality and their effects on banks' risk-taking behavior. We identify an endogenous false-alarm cost that banks incur when forced to sell assets to meet capital requirements. We find that when the interbank competition is less intense, an improvement in the quality of accounting information encourages banks to take more risk. Keeping the banks' investments in loans constant, the provision of high-quality accounting information reduces the false-alarm cost of assets sales and improves the discriminating efficiency of the capital requirement policy. When considering the banks' endogenous investment decisions, however, this improvement in discriminating efficiency causes excessive risk-taking, because banks respond by competing more aggressively in the deposit market, and the increase in deposit costs motivates banks to take more risk. Our paper shows that improving information quality increases risk-taking with mild competition, but has no effect under fierce competition.

In the concluding chapter, the argument of the book is summarized and some reflections are offered on what might have distinguished British imperial experience from that of the other European imperial powers. The study has shown that despite fierce competition with other Europeans for the spoils of the wider world, this competition existed alongside their involvement in Britain’s empire and that life in the British Empire changed those Europeans who entered it more than they changed the British Empire. Perhaps the book’s most important contribution is to show that, in the British case at least, transnational means could be used for imperial purposes without compromising national control.

The Merovingians inherited an urban network from the Roman Empire that remained substantially intact. Although Gallic cities had long been declining in extent and sophistication, during late antiquity their landscapes were adapted to contemporary priorities through the provision of walls and churches, and their politics was transformed by the emergence of bishops as leaders of urban communities. When the upper tiers of imperial administration disappeared, this equipped the vast majority of cities to survive as the basic building blocks of Merovingian kingdoms that were initially conceived as aggregations of city–territories. In ruling through their cities, the Merovingians expanded upon existing mechanisms for the extraction of taxes and services, while relying on centrally appointed bishops and counts rather than city councils for the projection of their authority. This generated fierce competition between kings for control of cities and among local elites for positions of power within them. In the later Merovingian period, however, the significance of cities diminished as stable territorial kingdoms emerged, political practice was centralized around the royal courts, and the Roman administrative legacy finally disintegrated. But the cities remained preeminent religious centers, and, with the beginnings of economic revival, continued to perform a range of functions unmatched by other categories of settlement.

This chapter looks inside the firm at how organizational design affects collaboration in pursuit of corporate entrepreneurship or “intrapreneurship.” It shows how the intrafirm “marketplace” of ideas, employees, and resources can be strategically configured to encourage or inhibit collaborative innovation. The chapter focuses on the key structural dimensions of autonomy, sponsorship, and incentives. Complementarities between these dimensions create spillover effects that produce unique innovation outcomes by mitigating barriers to collaboration such as knowledge problems, resource constraints, and employee motivation. Illustrating configurations of these dimensions with company examples, the chapter shows how organizational design affects intrapreneurship and offers suggestions on how firms might strategically align their organizational structure with their intrapreneurial strategy.
