Engineering education in Hong Kong is experiencing significant changes in response to several major forces: (1) an increasing demand for future engineers who possess technical competencies, professional skills, and knowledge of ethical awareness and responsibilities; (2) accreditation requirements; and (3) the system-wide education reform in the region. Curriculum changes have taken place in several universities in Hong Kong with engineering majors but there are few conceptual articles providing in-depth discussions about the impact of the changes. This article aims to provide insights into the engineering curriculum reform in a broader context for university management, program leaders, and coordinators who are involved in curriculum design and implementation. Using a newly revamped engineering curriculum in one of the research-intensive universities in Hong Kong as an example, this article highlights the features of the new four-year engineering curriculum and discusses how it may contribute to the nurturing of future engineers. While clear progress has been made in providing students with a broad perspective and support, the influences of the prevailing culture of teaching and learning, the local perceptions of the engineering profession, and the decision making patterns of Hong Kong Chinese students cast a complicated picture. To fully achieve the goals of the new curriculum, universities should proactively address the challenges by the following actions: acting consistently to the commitment of holistic education, supporting students’ personal and value development, establishing reward mechanisms for faculty members’ contributions in student development, and investing in pedagogical development and innovations.

This study aims to examine the influence of visual thinking learning to problemsolving skill. Quasi experiments with the design of this non-equivalent controlgroup involved Grade V students in one of the Elementary Schools. The design ofthis study was quasi experimental nonequivalent control group, the researchbullet used the existing class. The results of research are: 1) improvement ofproblem soving skill. The learning did not differ significantly between studentswho received conventional learning. 2) there is no interaction between learning(visual thinking and traditional) with students' mathematical skill (upper, middleand lower) on the improvement of skill. 3) there is a difference in the skill oflanguage learning that is being constructed with visual learning of thought interms of student skill (top, middle and bottom).

The authors examine the changes and opportunities in the educational environment that will occur as packaged courseware and virtual access to laboratories are assimilated into the engineering curriculum worldwide. The impact on Universities and in turn on Canadian industry will be major unless there is a coordinated effort that can turn the challenge into an opportunity. The opportunity, the authors believe, is to use this new material to allow innovative approaches to education that use Design to direct student learning. The major benefits would be a greater appreciation of technology and practice and significantly improved communication skills, (both of which are regarded as essential by industrial employers). The authors believe that the engineering science background would be enhanced rather than weakened by the approach suggested.

At present, the growth of Instagram as an online site is phenomenal, because of the shift from its original function as a social communication medium into a marketing platform. Furniture products used to be only available for in-store purchase, can now be easily purchased online. The present study attempted to discover the level of influence and effectiveness of the visual appearance of the furniture products photos through the social networking site, Instagram on consumer perceptions, which is measured using the EPIC (Empathy, Persuasion, Impact and Communication) model. The purpose of the study was to identify the effectiveness of the visual display of furniture product photos on the Instagram social networking site on consumer’s perceptions, and to map the use of the ideal visual display of furniture product photos for online product marketing purposes. The research used comparative analytical methods on photos of furniture products from six accounts of small creative economy entrepreneurs of similar products that are advertised through the social networking site, Instagram. The data of this study are limited in the scope of visual perception of furniture product photos uploaded through the social networking site, Instagram on consumer perceptions. The results showed that the visual display in the form of photos of furniture products through the social networking site, Instagram had an effective result on consumer perceptions. The visual display is declared effective as a media for promoting furniture products through the social networking site, Instagram based on the four dimensions of EPIC. The dimensions of Empathy and Impact are the most dominant aspects. The visual display mapping used as an advertising photo is not only influenced by the Empathy dimension and the Impact dimension, but also dominantly influenced by the associated design principles, namely, Unity and Domination. This Major Research Project (MRP) aims to investigate the impact of the on-demand economy, millennials’ digital habits, and the emergence of super apps on the restaurant-finding process. Currently, restaurant-goers are presented with multiple specialty applications to complete different tasks when evaluating restaurants. The current process of deciding on a restaurant is both time-consuming and inefficient. This project aims to propose a solution to this problem in the form of an early-stage super app called Palate. Palate is a mobile application that aims to streamline the process of discovering restaurants from the moment a restaurant-goer begins their search to the moment they confirm a reservation. This paper will discuss design principles, theories of the on-demand economy, restaurant-goers digital habits, super apps and the rationale for designing a restaurant super app interface.

Informal science learning (ISL) has shown a considerable amount of recognition to the enrichment of science learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate one form of ISL that is on-stage shows also known as science shows to enhance students’ achievement on fire and pressure science concepts and to investigate whether science shows could engage students in science learning. Two science shows were conducted in this study with demonstration characteristics identified as CHAMP merged with the science content development framework for science shows practised by OGDC. In the attempt to identify whether the students learning achievement on fire and pressure science concept were enhanced, experimental design research consisting of a quantitative approach using pretest and posttest achievement tests were utilized. It is followed by BERI protocol to measure the behavioral engagement of students on science show and qualitative approach using structured interviews to elicit students’ insights on the shows. Pretest and posttest scores of the participating students were obtained and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranked test. The test revealed a statistically significant increase in scores following participation in the pressure and fire shows, Z= -3.562, p <.001, with a large effect size (r = 0.611) and Z= -3.624, p <.001, with a large effect size (r = 0.622) respectively. Structured interview transcripts (transcribed verbatim) were obtained from six selected students that participated in the experiment whereby two themes were derived, namely; knowledge gained by students and delivery of science show. The statistical and qualitative findings from the study indicated promising evidence that science shows do support students’ achievement on fire and pressure concepts as well as engaging them in learning science.

Several previous studies have shown that students have difficulty integrating ethnoscience into science learning. Students are more likely to be introduced to the basic concepts of ethnoscience without involving how to integrate ethnoscience into science learning. The impact is that students’ scientific literacy is low. This is what underlies researchers to apply the Local Wisdom Integrated Science (LWIS) learning model by using local Madurese content to train students’ scientific literacy. The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in student scientific literacy after implementing the LWIS learning model in ethnoscience learning with local Madurese content. The method used was pre-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. When the study was carried out in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year by taking 22 students via purposive sampling technique as a sample of all students in class 6A of science education, Trunojoyo University, Madura. Analysis of data using descriptive statistics and paired sample t test. The results showed that there were different in the scientific literacy of the students using the LWIS learning model before and after studying ethnoscience with local Madurese material. The entire LWIS syntax helps train students' scientific literacy by including self-awareness of the importance of local Madurese content as a learning context. Ethnoscience can be integrated into science learning through the STEAM approach. The contribution of STEAM to the LWIS learning model and self-awareness is very significant in developing ethnoscience learning for local Madurese content from elementary, middle, and tertiary level.

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to know the influence of learning method and cognitive style to students' science learning outcomes, especially in science subjects for elementary students. The research method used in this research is experiment with design treatment by level 2x2. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) there is a significant effect difference between the experimental learning method and the learning method of demonstration on the students' science learning outcomes. This can be proven from sig 0.000 <0.05 and F0 = 18.72; (2) There is no significant effect between cognitive style on students' learning outcomes. This can be proven from sig. 0.104> 0.05 and F0 2.737; (3) There is no interaction effect between learning method and student's cognitive style on science learning outcomes. It is marked by the sig value. for learning method and cognitive style 0.937> 0.05 and F0 =0.006. Key words: Method of learning, Experiment method, Science Learning Achievement Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran dan gaya kognitif terhadap hasil belajar IPA siswa, terutama pada mata pelajaran IPA untuk siswa SD. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dalah eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain treatment by level 2x2. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa : (1) terdapat perbedaan pengaruh yang signifikan antara metode belajar eksperimen dengan metode belajar demontrasi terhadap hasil belajar IPA siswa. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari sig 0.000 < 0.05 dan F0= 18.72; (2) Tidak terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara gaya kognitif terhadap hasil belajar IPA siswa. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari sig. 0.104 > 0.05 dan F0 2.737; (3) Tidak terdapat pengaruh interaksi antara metode belajar dan gaya kognitif siswa terhadap hasil belajar IPA. This study explored the impact of the role of teacher-researchers on in-service teachers’ professional development, as well as the reasons behind the lack of a teacher-as-researcher ethos in schools. In the study, teachers from four Hong Kong primary schools participated in a school-university collaborative research project that promotes collaborative inquiry project-based learning (IPjBL), in which they took the dual role of the teacher and researcher. Five focus group interviews were conducted with the teachers to collect in-depth qualitative data on their experiences. The impact of this experience on teacher professionalism was examined from four dimensions: knowledge enrichment, school culture, teaching practice and curriculum design. The study provides evidence for the benefits of teacher research and sheds light on how university-school collaboration could contribute to engaging teachers in action research in their everyday classroom.
