As one of the popular material used in the mould industry, Cr12 is always used as cold working steel. Although Cr12 has excellent hardenability, the hardened depth is definite.During the mould manufacturing, the following phenomena have always been met: the mould blank cracks in the forging process; capillary crack appears when the mould is still in its initial service stage which can lead to the mould discarding; tool heavily wear out or tool tipping in the rough cutting mould blank after preheat treatment. In the light of these problems, analysis of forging properties, heat treatment process performance and cutting performance of the mold steel Cr12 is done and the corresponding solutions is put forward in the manufacturing in order to keep mould quality, reduce reject rate, improve mould life and optimize process performance totally.Favorite application results were obtained and they can give guidance in the mould industry.

AbstractWith the concern of the environment, green dry cutting technology is getting more and more attention and self-lubricating tool technology plays an important role in dry cutting. Due to the demand for high temperature performance of tools during dry cutting process, cemented carbide with Ni3Al as the binder phase has received extensive attention due to its excellent high temperature strength and high temperature oxidation resistance. In this paper, WC-TiC-Ni3Al-CaF2 graded self-lubricating material and tools were prepared by microwave heating method, and its microstructure, mechanical properties and cutting performance were studied. Results show that gradient self-lubricating material can be quickly prepared by microwave heating technology, and the strength is equivalent to that of conventional heating technology. CaF2 not only plays a role in self-lubrication, but also refines the grain of the material. A reasonable gradient design can improve the mechanical properties of the material. When the gradient distribution exponent is n1 = 2, the material has high mechanical properties. Cutting experiments show that the WC-TiC-Ni3Al-CaF2 functional gradient self-lubricating tool has better cutting performance than the homogeneous WC-TiC-Ni3Al hard alloys.

In this paper, in order to improve the microstructure uniformity of an ultra-high strength martensitic steel with a strength greater than 2500 MPa developed by multi-directional forging in the laboratory, a single-pass hot compression experiment with the strain rate of 0.01 to 1 s−1 and a temperature of 800 to 1150 °C was conducted. Based on the experimental data, the material parameters were determined, the constitutive model considering the influence of work hardening, the recrystallization softening on the dislocation density, and the recrystallized grain size model were established. After introducing the model into the finite element software DEFORM-3D, the thermal compression experiment was simulated, and the results were consistent with the experimental results. The rule for obtaining forging stock with a uniform and refinement microstructure was acquired by comparing the simulation and the experimental results, which are helpful to formulate an appropriate forging process.

The nickel-based superalloy GH4033 is one of the difficult-to-cut materials. In order to investigate the machinability of GH4033, the tool cutting performance, tool failure modes, tool life and the relationships between surface roughness and tool flank wear were studied by using different coated cemented carbide cutting tools under dry cutting. Aiming at the amount of metal removal combining with the tool life and surface quality, the better cutting tool coating type and optimal cutting parameters were obtained through the orthogonal experiments. The results showed that the cutting performance of TiCN coated tool (GC4235) was better than that of TiAlN coated tool (JC450V). With these two kinds of tools, the machined surface roughness decreased to a minimum value and then increased with the increase of flank wear. When cutting GH4033, the main wear mechanism for both of the two types of tools included adhesive wear, diffusive wear, abrasive wear, edge wear and coating peeling.
