Abstract The naive double-copy of (multi) loop amplitudes involving massive matter coupled to gauge theories will generically produce amplitudes in a gravitational theory that contains additional contributions from propagating antisymmetric tensor and dilaton states even at tree-level. We present a graph-based approach that combines the method of maximal cuts with double-copy construction to offer a systematic framework to isolate the pure Einstein-Hilbert gravitational contributions through loop level. Indeed this allows for a bootstrap of pure-gravitational results from the double-copy of massive scalar-QCD. We apply this to construct the novel result of the D-dimensional one-loop five-point QFT integrand relevant in the classical limit to generating observables associated with the radiative effects of massive black-hole scattering via pure Einstein-Hilbert gravity.

Abstract Gauge-gravity duality is arguably our best hope for understanding quantum gravity. Considerable progress has been made in relating scattering amplitudes in certain gravity theories to those in gauge theories — a correspondence dubbed the double copy. Recently, double copies have also been realized in a classical setting, as maps between exact solutions of gauge theories and gravity. We present here a novel map between a certain class of real, exact solutions of Einstein’s equations and self-dual solutions of the flat-space vacuum Maxwell equations. This map, which we call the Newman-Penrose map, is well-defined even for non-vacuum, non-stationary spacetimes, providing a systematic framework for exploring gravity solutions in the context of the double copy that have not been previously studied in this setting. To illustrate this, we present here the Newman- Penrose map for the Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes, and Kinnersley’s photon rocket.

We consider the detailed renormalization of two (1+1)-dimensional gauge theories which are quantized without preserving gauge invariance: the chiral and the "anomalous" Schwinger models. By regularizing the nonperturbative divergences that appear in fermionic Green functions of both models, we show that the "tree level" photon propagator is ill defined, thus forcing one to use the complete photon propagator in the loop expansion of these functions. We perform the renormalization of these divergences in both models to one-loop level, defining it in a consistent and semiperturbative sense that we propose in this paper.

We are investigating if the double copy structure as product of scattering amplitudes of gauge theories applies to cosmological correlators computed, in a class of theories for inflation, by the operatorial version of the In–In formalism of Schwinger–Keldysh. We consider tree-level momentum–space correlators involving primordial gravitational waves with different polarizations and the scalar curvature fluctuations on a three-dimensional fixed spatial slice. The correlators are sum of terms factorized in a time-dependent scalar factor, which takes into account the curved background where energy is not conserved, and in a so-called tensor factor, constructed by polarization tensors. In the latter, we recognize scattering amplitudes in four-dimensional Minkowski space spanned by three points gravitational amplitudes related by double copy to those of gauge theories. Our study indicates that gravitational waves are double copy of gluons and the primordial scalar curvature is double copy of a scalar with Higgs-like interactions.

Abstract We demonstrate the simplicity of AdS5× S5 IIB supergravity at one loop level, by studying non-planar holographic four-point correlators in Mellin space. We develop a systematic algorithm for constructing one-loop Mellin amplitudes from the tree-level data, and obtain a simple closed form answer for the $$ \left\langle {\mathcal{O}}_2^{SG}{\mathcal{O}}_2^{SG}{\mathcal{O}}_p^{SG}{\mathcal{O}}_p^{SG}\right\rangle $$ O 2 SG O 2 SG O p SG O p SG correlators. The structure of this expression is remarkably simple, containing only simultaneous poles in the Mellin variables. We also study the flat space limit of the Mellin amplitudes, which reproduces precisely the IIB supergravity one-loop amplitude in ten dimensions. Our results provide nontrivial evidence for the persistence of the hidden conformal symmetry at one loop.

Abstract Color-kinematics duality in the adjoint has proven key to the relationship between gauge and gravity theory scattering amplitude predictions. In recent work, we demonstrated that at four-point tree-level, a small number of color-dual EFT building blocks could encode all higher-derivative single-trace massless corrections to gauge and gravity theories compatible with adjoint double-copy. One critical aspect was the trivialization of building higher-derivative color-weights — indeed, it is the mixing of kinematics with non-adjoint-type color-weights (like the permutation-invariant d4) which permits description via adjoint double-copy. Here we find that such ideas clarify the predictions of local five-point higher-dimensional operators as well. We demonstrate how a single scalar building block can be combined with color structures to build higher-derivative color factors that generate, through double copy, the amplitudes associated with higher-derivative gauge-theory operators. These may then be suitably mapped, through another double-copy, to higher-derivative corrections in gravity.

Abstract We generalize the unifying relations for tree amplitudes to the 1-loop Feynman integrands. By employing the 1-loop CHY formula, we construct differential operators which transmute the 1-loop gravitational Feynman integrand to Feynman integrands for a wide range of theories, including Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, Einstein-Maxwell theory, pure Yang-Mills theory, Yang-Mills-scalar theory, Born-Infeld theory, Dirac-Born-Infeld theory, bi-adjoint scalar theory, non-linear sigma model, as well as special Galileon theory. The unified web at 1-loop level is established. Under the well known unitarity cut, the 1-loop level operators will factorize into two tree level operators. Such factorization is also discussed.

In this paper, we present a cosmological model arising from a nonconservative gravitational theory proposed in [M. J. Lazo, J. Paiva, J. T. S. Amaral and G. S. F. Frederico, Phys. Rev. D 95 (2017) 101501.] The novel feature where comparing with previous implementations of dissipative effects in gravity is the possible arising of such phenomena from a least action principle, so they are of a purely geometric nature. We derive the dynamical equations describing the behavior of the cosmic background, considering a single fluid model composed by pressureles matter, whereas the dark energy is conceived as an outcome of the “geometric” dissipative process emerging in the model. Besides, adopting the synchronous gauge, we obtain the first-order perturbative equations which shall describe the evolution of the matter perturbations within the linear regime.

We discuss R symmetries in locally supersymmetric N = 2 gauge theories coupled to hypermultiplets which can be thought of as effective theories of heterotic superstring models. In this type of supergravities a suitable R symmetry exists and can be used to topologically twist the theory: the vector multiplet containing the dilaton–axion field has different R charge assignments with respect to the other vector multiplets. Correspondingly a system of coupled instanton equations emerges, mixing gravitational and Yang–Mills instantons with triholomorphic hyperinstantons and axion instantons. For the tree level classical special manifolds ST(n) = SU(1,1)/U(1) × SO(2,n)/[SO(2) × SO(n)], R symmetry with the specified properties is a continuous symmetry, but for the quantum-corrected manifolds [Formula: see text] a discrete R group of electric–magnetic duality rotations is sufficient and we argue that it exists.

We derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations, corresponding to the (1-form) Yang–Mills (YM) and (2-form) tensorial gauge symmetries of the four (3+1)-dimensional (4D) Freedman–Townsend (FT) model, by exploiting the augmented version of Bonora–Tonin's (BT) superfield approach to BRST formalism where the 4D flat Minkowskian theory is generalized onto the (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. One of the novel observations is the fact that we are theoretically compelled to go beyond the horizontality condition (HC) to invoke an additional set of gauge-invariant restrictions (GIRs) for the derivation of the full set of proper (anti-)BRST symmetries. To obtain the (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations, corresponding to the tensorial (2-form) gauge symmetries within the framework of augmented version of BT-superfield approach, we are logically forced to modify the FT-model to incorporate an auxiliary 1-form field and the kinetic term for the antisymmetric (2-form) gauge field. This is also a new observation in our present investigation. We point out some of the key differences between the modified FT-model and Lahiri-model (LM) of the dynamical non-Abelian 2-form gauge theories. We also briefly mention a few similarities.

Kaluza–Klein fields characterizing, from a four-dimensional viewpoint, the presence of compact universal extra dimensions would alter low-energy observables through effects determined by some compactification scale, [Formula: see text], since the one-loop level, thus being particularly relevant for physical phenomena forbidden at tree level by the Standard Model. This paper explores, for the case of one universal extra dimension, such new-physics contributions to Higgs decays [Formula: see text], into pairs of quarks with different flavors, a sort of decay process which, in the Standard Model, strictly occurs at the loop level. Finite results, decoupling as [Formula: see text], are calculated. Approximate short expressions, valid for large compactification scales, are provided. We estimate that Kaluza–Klein contributions lie below predictions from the Standard Model, being about 2 to 3 orders of magnitude smaller for compactification scales within [Formula: see text].
