Abstract Background: The judicialization of healthcare for acquiring medication is not an isolated occurrence in Brazil, it may also be observed in other Latin American countries, regardless of the existence of a universal health system, in Brazil, the Unified Health System. The search for justice, in terms of medications, has existed ever since the high demand for treating the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, while currently, the protagonist is cancer. Since pharmaceutical assistance is the area within Unified Health System, which is responsible for maintaining access to medications, the aim of this article is to describe the profile of judicialization in the pharmaceutical assistance of a state in Northeastern Brazil of economic significance, according to the characteristics of the lawsuits, regarding: the plaintiff filing the lawsuit; the medical and health information; the expenditure on acquiring the requested medications; and the relevance of spending on antineoplastic drugs. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study based on a set of lawsuits filed between 2016-2018 at the Litigation Center in the State Health Department of Pernambuco. Results: A total of 2,947 lawsuits were analyzed that contained at least one requested medication, with a predominance of males (51.7%); and in which 49.8% of the requests originated in the Unified Health System, and were primarily from patients in the Metropolitan region of the state capital. The most frequent ICDs for cancer were C61, C71 and C50. The median overall expense of the lawsuits was U$1,734.94. Considering only antineoplastic drugs, expenditure exceeded U$7,500 per lawsuit over the three years, given that the median unit price of antineoplastic drugs is approximately U$65.00 compared to U$4.00 for non-antineoplastic drugs. Conclusion: The present study is of relevance as a matter of public health, and how the profile of judicialization behaves as a tool for managing and improving decision-making in times of economic austerity.

IntroductionAntineoplastic drugs (AD) are potentially carcinogenic and/or reprotoxic molecules. Healthcare professionals are increasingly exposed to these drugs and can be potentially contaminated by them. Internal contamination of professionals is a key concern for occupational physicians in the assessment and management of occupational risks in healthcare settings. Objectives of this study are to report AD internal contamination rate in nursing staff and to identify factors associated with internal contamination. Methods and analysisThis trial will be conducted in two French hospital centres: University Hospital of Bordeaux and IUCT-Oncopole of Toulouse. The target population is nurses practicing in one of the fifteen selected care departments where at least one of the five studied AD is handled (5-fluorouracil, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, ifosfamide, methotrexate). The trial will be conducted with the following steps: (1) development of analytical methods to quantify AD urine biomarkers, (2) study of the workplace and organization around AD in each care department (transport and handling, professional practices, personal and collective protection equipments available) (3) development of a self-questionnaire detailing professional activities during the day of inclusion, (4) nurses inclusion (urine samples and self-questionnaire collection), (5) urine assays, (6) data analysis.Ethics and disseminationThe study protocol has been approved by the French Advisory Committee on the Treatment of Information in Health Research (CCTIRS) and by the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL). Following the opinion of the Regional Committee for the Protection of Persons, this study is outside the scope of the provisions governing biomedical research and routine care (n°2014/87). The results will be submitted to peer-reviewed journals and reported at suitable national and international meetings.Trial registration numberNCT03137641.

During menstruation blood vessels in the uterus are very easily infected because germs easily enter and cause diseases of the reproductive tract. Some of the most common disorders are vaginal discharge and pruritus vulvae (vaginal itching). However, this complaint can be prevented by maintaining the cleanliness of the female organs early on, namely with good menstrual personal hygiene. This study aims to describe the level of personal hygiene knowledge about menstruation. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach, with a total sample of 90 people taken by total sampling technique. The results showed that the majority of respondents had enough personal hygiene behavior as many as 82 people (91.1%), while good menstrual personal hygiene behavior was 3 people (3.3%), and respondents who had behaviors classified as less than 5 people ( 5.6%). Based on complaints on reproductive organs, respondents who experienced vaginal discharge were 85 people (94.4%) and itching around the genitals was around 83 people (92.2%).

This study aimed to identify educational needs and determine priorities in nursing care for home visit nurses providing services within the national long-term care insurance system in South Korea. This cross-sectional descriptive study assessed the educational needs of 92 home visit nurses. Participants’ characteristics were analyzed using percentages, averages, and standard deviations. Educational needs were calculated for participants’ current and required competency levels, utilizing the paired t-test, Borich’s educational needs formula, and the locus for focus model. Four main categories were identified as top priorities: (1) health assessment, (2) cognitive function care, (3) disease management, and (4) medication management. The study’s findings could support the development of appropriate and responsive education and training programs for home-visit nurses—as it reflects the actual needs of this group.

Digitalization has increased the adoption pace of Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly in connection with Open Innovation. However, companies are still finding it challenging to know the variety of Industry 4.0 technologies available, and their fit with the scope of the organization. To address this issue, a cross-sectional research design under quantitative approach was adopted. The data were collected first-hand through a survey questionnaire from a total of 238 technology companies in Malaysia. Technology companies were selected as they have higher agility in terms of technology which suits the digital revolution nature of Industry 4.0. The findings of this descriptive study revealed a range of insights in terms of Industry 4.0 technologies and open innovation. First, this study presents the standing of technology companies in terms of 12 Industry 4.0 technologies. Second, a comparison of these technologies is analyzed in terms of company size (small, medium, and large). Third, a contrast of these technologies is ascertained based on the type of company (manufacturing and services). In brief, this research contributes in providing valuable insights that can help companies in the awareness of open innovation and adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies.

This study aimed to evaluate the current status of the internship assessment in medical colleges of Bangladesh. Internship acts as the pathway from being a medical student to becoming a registered doctor. Hence, a rigorous and robust internship leads to producing better doctor and in turn better healthcare. Thus, proper assessment is necessary to ensure the quality of the future medical practitioners. Unfortunately, no study has been done in Bangladesh related to this context. A cross-sectional descriptive study with pre-tested self-administered questionnaires covering study place and population and factors relevant to intern assessment (assessment after each major discipline completion, assessment techniques, and feedback) was performed. The study was carried out in 8 medical colleges (4 public and 4 non-government; 4 inside Dhaka and 4 outside). 300 completed questionnaires (250 interns, 50 supervisors) were analyzed. All the collected data were analyzed and presented with SPSS v 19.0 software. Results revealed that there was no assessment present after completion of major placement rotation (about 54% interns and 24% teachers). Furthermore, only logbook was signed as the prevailing assessment technique (more than 66% interns and 72% doctors). Moreover, assessment feedback system was not fully functional (48.7% respondent views). Hence, the overall scenario is shabby and poses questions on our future doctors' skill set.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Education Vol.8(1) 2017: 14-17

This study examines the application of a didactic teaching strategy called LUVE. Based on a constructivist learning approach, LUVE's purpose is to develop collaborative links between schools and parents, so that parents can improve their daily educational practices with their children and assume a more active role in their children's education. The project took place in Santiago, Chile, and was implemented in two stages. The first stage included a cross-sectional descriptive study with an experimental design, focusing on parents. The second stage involved teachers and parents who applied and carried out the LUVE strategy, The project's content focused on sex education, as this was the topic of interest to parents. The findings indicate that the strategy was a successful experience for the parents.
