Harmonic wavelet function, with the strict box-shaped characteristic of spectrum, has strong ability of identifying signal in frequency domain, and can extract weak components form vibration signals in frequency domain. Using harmonic wavelet analysis method, the selected frequency region and other frequency components of vibration signal of mine ventilator were decomposed into independent frequency bands without any over-lapping or leaking. Simulation and diagnosis example show that this method has good fault diagnosis effect, and the ventilator fault is diagnosed successfully.

The correlation method had once been considered as one of the best methods for the measurement of multiphase flow. However, if the behavior of flow does not fit the ergodic random process, the measured cross correlation plot will have a gross distortion when the different components of flow do not pervade within one another to the full extent. We measured a variety of parameters of three phase oil/water/gas flow in an oil pipeline. The change of flow pattern is so complex that the measured signals are always contaminated by stochastic noises. The weak signals are very easily covered by the noise so that it will result in great deviation. Wavelet transformation is an analytical method of both time and frequency domain. The method can achieve signal decomposition and location in time and frequency domain through adjustment and translation of scale. An LMS algorithm in wavelet transform is studied for denoising the signals based on the use of a novel smart capacitive sensor to measure three phase oil/water/gas flow in oil pipeline. The results of simulation and data processing by MATLAB reveal that wavelet analysis has better denoising effects for online measurement of crude oils with high measurement precision and a wide application range.

Because the wavelet transform can characterize the local signals in time and frequency domain, in the coal mine’s sound signals’ process, an audio signal processing based on wavelet analysis is proposed, the audio signal P wave is isolated and determined by wavelet transform, at the same time, the earthquake source can be located. Through the research of the mine AE signal’s activity patterns, the sound monitoring technology to forecast the mine power disaster is achieved.

The analysis of the time sequence can be two ways in the time domain and frequency domain. But many financial time series exhibit strong non-stationary and long memory, which makes many traditional individually focused on the research and analysis of the time domain or frequency domain method is no longer applicable. In this paper, wavelet analysis and support vector machines for use in the time domain and frequency domain have the ability to characterize the local signal characteristics, location and mutation of the singular points and irregular mutation analysis, these mutations detected the degree of significance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the causal relationship between Chinese housing and stock markets. The authors discuss the three transmission mechanisms between the two markets: wealth effect, modern portfolio theory and credit-price effect. Moreover, the authors focus on the effects of inflation on the relationship between the two markets. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses wavelet analysis to test the housing and stock markets relationship both in the frequency domain and time domain. Findings The empirical results indicate that housing prices have a positive effect on stock prices, and these have the same effect on housing prices. Moreover, this positive effect means that stock prices have a wealth effect on housing prices and these have a credit-price effect on stock prices. Research limitations/implications These results provide information to financial institutions and individual investors in China to assist them in constructing investment portfolios within these two asset markets. Originality/value The authors first use wavelet analysis to analyze Chinese housing and stock markets and to provide information both on the frequency domain and time domain. Moreover, the authors take the inflation factor as a control variable in the causal relationship between the housing and stock markets.

Most current superresolution (SR) microscope techniques surpass the diffraction limit at the expense of temporal resolution, compromising their applications to live-cell imaging. Here we describe a new SR fluorescence microscope based on confocal microscope optics, which we name the spinning disk superresolution microscope (SDSRM). Theoretically, the SDSRM is equivalent to a structured illumination microscope (SIM) and achieves a spatial resolution of 120 nm, double that of the diffraction limit of wide-field fluorescence microscopy. However, the SDSRM is 10 times faster than a conventional SIM because SR signals are recovered by optical demodulation through the stripe pattern of the disk. Therefore a single SR image requires only a single averaged image through the rotating disk. On the basis of this theory, we modified a commercial spinning disk confocal microscope. The improved resolution around 120 nm was confirmed with biological samples. The rapid dynamics of microtubules, mitochondria, lysosomes, and endosomes were observed with temporal resolutions of 30–100 frames/s. Because our method requires only small optical modifications, it will enable an easy upgrade from an existing spinning disk confocal to a SR microscope for live-cell imaging.
