Abstract Use of body mass index (BMI) to assess the nutritional status of adolescents requires many resources, especially for country-level assessment. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) among adolescent males and females in India and to examine whether MUAC effectively represents the nutritional status of adolescents. The study utilized anthropometric measurement data collected by India’s National Family Health Survey-4 (2015–16). The weighted sample for analysis included 91,315 female and 14,893 male adolescents. The BMI and MUAC measurements showed a positive correlation in both female and male adolescents. Using BMI-for-age Z-score classifications, 12.7% of the adolescents were undernourished. Using MUAC (in cm) as per NACS (Nutrition Assessment, Counselling, and Support) guidelines and Mramba et al. (2017) classified 22.9% and 3.7% of the adolescents as undernourished respectively. Finally, using the MUAC-for-age Z-score classification, 98.4% of adolescents were determined to be normal and 1.7% undernourished. Sensitivity and specificity tests of the MUAC cut-offs, in comparison with BMI cut-offs, showed that all three MUAC cut-off classifications had high specificity (NACS cut-off: 81.3%; Mramba et al. cut-off (cm): 97.7%; Mramba et al. cut-off (Z-score): 99.1%). The NACS cut-off had moderately high sensitivity (52.2%) but the Mramba et al. cut-offs had low sensitivity (13.3% for the centimetre cut-off and 6.6% for the Z-score cut-off). Sensitivity and specificity tests proved the relationship between BMI and MUAC, and that MUAC represents adolescent nutritional status with considerable efficiency. With further research, it may be established that MUAC is a better and promising measure of adolescent nutrition, having the advantage of needing fewer resources for data collection. The MUAC has the potential to offer a simple and low-resource alternative to BMI to assess nutritional status among adolescents in poor countries.

Stunting in Indonesia was the fifth ranks in the world, influenced by many factors, some of which are the height of the parents and the nutritional status of the mother during pregnancy. The purpose of this research was to determine the correlation of parent height characteristics and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy based on Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) with stunting incidence in toddlers aged 24-59 months in the working area of the Berbek Public Health Center Nganjuk Regency. The research design used correlation analytic research design with observational method with case control approach. The independent variables consisted of parental height characteristics and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy based on UAC, and the dependent variable was stunting incidence. The population was 2266 respondents of under-five children aged 24-59 months. The sampling technique used quota sampling consisted 96 respondents. The instrument used height measurement tool, the Mother's Child Health book and the Public Health Center Weigh Activity Report, 2011. This research was conducted from 22 July to 22 August 2019 in three selected villages namely Sumberurip, Sumberwindu and Semare villages. Data analysis used chi-square test α (0.05). The results showed that almost all mothers and fathers had normal height characteristics, almost all respondents had the nutritional status of the mother during normal pregnancy. Analysis of height, circumference of the mother, and nutritional status of the mother during pregnancy based on Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) was obtained ρ value = 0.036; 0,000 and 0,000 <α 0,05. It meant that there was a correlation between parental height characteristics and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy based on Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) with the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-59 months in the Berbek Public Health Center Nganjuk Regency Parental height and nutritional status of the mother during normal pregnancy, it will have the opportunity to have a child with good growth.

The importance of paying attention to nutritional status in early childhood is useful for maximizing the growth phase of early childhood. One way to assess nutritional status for early childhood can be assessed by means of anthropometric measurements. Anthropometric measurements are measurements of various dimensions and body compositions of various ages, such as baby length, head circumference, height, weight, chest circumference, and upper arm circumference. TK Aisyiyah 15 Bustanul Athfal Banjarmasin is one of the schools that has not implemented early detection of the growth and development of pre-school children because the teachers do not understand how to examine and document the results of the examination. Efforts to strengthen the Stimulation, Detection and Early Development Development Program (SDIDTK). Methods ranging from FGDs, training and mentoring so that teachers acquire comprehensive skills in anthropometric examinations. The activity was carried out in August and was continued with mentoring for teachers to be able to monitor and evaluate activities. The results of activities in efforts to strengthen stimulation, detection and early intervention programs for growth and development produce skills for teachers in conducting anthropometric examinations and screening children's growth and development. Efforts to strengthen the program of stimulation, detection and early intervention for growth and development can increase teachers' knowledge in conducting anthropometric examinations and growth screening.

The anthropometric (body weight, height, upper arm circumference, triceps and subescapular skinfolds; Quetelet index and arm muscle circunference) and blood biochemistry (proteins and lipids) parameters were evaluated in 93 males and 27 females, 17-72 years old voluntaries living in the malarial endemic area of Humaita city (southwest Amazon). According to their malarial history they were assembled in four different groups: G1-controls without malarial history (n:30); G2 - controls with malarial history but without actual manifestation of the disease (n:40); G3 - patients with Plasmodium vivax (n:19) and G4 - patients with Plasmodium falciparum (n:31). The malarial status was stablished by clinical and laboratory findings. The overall data of anthropometry and blood biochemistry discriminated the groups differently. The anthropometric data were low sensitive and contrasted only the two extremes (G1>G4) whereas the biochemistry differentiated two big groups, the healthy (G1+G2) and the patients (G3+G4). The nutritional status of the P. falciparum patients was highly depressed for most of the studied indices but none was sensitive enough to differentiate this group from the P. vivax group (G3). On the other hand the two healthy groups could be differentiated through the levels of ceruloplasmin (G1<G2) and alpha nitrogen (G1>G2). Thus it seems that the malaria-malnourishment state exists and the results could be framed either as a consequence of nutrient sink and/or the infection stress both motivated by the parasite.

Impaired nutritional status is a frequent complication of congenital heart disease (CHD). Non cyanotic congenital heart disease (NC-CHD) have problem with lung overfl ow and heart failure. Consequences of Cyanotic congenital heart disease (C-CHD) are decrease pulmonary blood fl ow and prolong hypoxia. These conditions can have eff ect on nutritional status and outcome of surgery. This study aimed to compare anthropometric profi les of children with C-CHD and NC-CHD. Cross-sectional study conducted in 66 children, age 3 months until 5 years old who met inclusion criteria in Pediatric Cardiology Outpatient Unit Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya in November 2012. A total of 66 children, consisted of 26 children with C-CHD and 40 children NC-CHD included in study. We measure weight, length/height, head circumference, upper arm circumference, and skin fold thickness. We used Chi Square test for statistical analysis with Confi dence Interval 95%. Mean age of both groups was 27.82 ± 16.63 months. Majority of NC-CHD was Ventricular Septal Defect (28.6%) and C-CHD was Tetralogy of Fallot (21.4%). There were no signifi cant diff erence from weight for age, length for age weight for length, head circumference for age, mid upper arm circumference for age, mid upper arm circumference for age, and skin fold thickness for age between children with C-CHD and NC-CHD (p= 0.80; 0.98;0.54 0.29; 0.80; 0.53 respectively). There were no diff erence in anthropometric profi les among children with cyanotic congenital heart disease and non-cyanotic congenital heart disease in this study.

AbstractThe nutritional status of children is one of the important indicators in assessing the health status of children. Assessment of the nutritional status of children is done by monitoring the growth of children. Growth monitoring can be carried out by measuring weight (BB), body length (PB) for children under 24 months of age or height (TB) for children aged 24 months and over, and measuring head circumference (LK), added to the measurement of the upper arm circumference (LLA/LILA). Growth monitoring is carried out every 3 months for children aged 0 to 24 months, and every 6 months for children aged 30 to 72 months. TK ‘Aisyiyah Batik Pekajangan is an early childhood education school (PAUD) which has a total number of students around 71 children. The school has carried out weighing and measuring height and measuring the circumference of the child's upper arm at the end of each semester (6 months) which are carried out independently by the teacher. The school also has equipment facilities in the form of weight scales and height measurements as well as measuring tapes. However, what has been done is limited to measurements that are documented in a reporting record. This monitoring was not followed up with conclusions from the measurement results to determine the nutritional status of children, because the assistance provided by health workers from the health centers was not optimal. The purpose of this community service activity is to identify the nutritional status of children. The community service method is carried out by direct detection through the measurement of BB, TB, LK, and LILA. This activity was carried out for 2 days and was attended by 59 children. The results of the activity showed that most of the children (78%) were in the category of good nutritional status, 10% were undernourished, 7% were obese, and 5% were overnourished. LILA data obtained 100% of children in the normal category and for LK data it was found that most (90%) children were in the normal category and 10% of children were microcephaly. There is still a need for a re-assessment to ensure the child's condition and follow-up in the form of collaboration between the school, parents, and also related health facilities to carry out management for children who are still experiencing problems in growth. Keywords: growth detection, nutritional status, kindergartner AbstrakStatus gizi anak merupakan salah satu indikator penting dalam penilaian status kesehatan anak.
