Recrystallization of amorphous NiSi2 involves nucleation and growth processes which can be studied dynamically in the electron microscope. Previous studies have shown thatCoSi2 recrystallises by nucleating spherical caps which then grow with a constant radial velocity. Coalescence results in the formation of hyperbolic grain boundaries. Nucleation of the isostructural NiSi2 results in small, approximately round grains with very rough amorphous/crystal interfaces. In this paper we show that the morphology of the rccrystallizcd film is dramatically affected by variations in the stoichiometry of the amorphous film.Thin films of NiSi2 were prepared by c-bcam deposition of Ni and Si onto Si3N4, windows supported by Si substrates at room temperature. The base pressure prior to deposition was 6 × 107 torr. In order to investigate the effect of stoichiomctry on the recrystallization process, the Ni/Si ratio was varied in the range NiSi1.8-2.4. The composition of the amorphous films was determined by Rutherford Backscattering.

AbstractWe report on the correlation of structural and magnetic properties of Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) films deposited on Y3Al5O12 substrates using pulsed laser deposition. The recrystallization process leads to an unexpected formation of interfacial tensile strain and consequently strain-induced anisotropy contributing to the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The ferromagnetic resonance linewidth of YIG is significantly increased in comparison to a film on a lattice-matched Gd3Ga5O12 substrate. Notably, the linewidth dependency on frequency has a negative slope. The linewidth behavior is explained with the proposed anisotropy dispersion model.

Abstract Background The o-phenylenediamine is a versatile starting material for several compounds. Synthesized o-phenylenediamine and amino acids (glycine, alanine, aspartic acid, and l-proline) undergo condensation via Phillips reaction. The synthesized compound showed the promising antibacterial activity of Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at the concentration of 100, 50, 25, 12.5, 6.25, 3.12, 1.6, 0.8, 0.4, and 0.2 μg/ml. Ciprofloxacin was used as standard drug. Synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives was carried out and purified by recrystallization process using ethanol. Substituted derivatives were characterized by melting point, TLC and spectroscopic methods include FT-IR and 1H-NMR. Results In silico studies were adopted for synthetic derivatives by Molinspiration, ChemDraw, and online software tool. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of B. subtilis and P. aeruginosa were reported, and benzimidazole ligands and Molinspiration scores were generated and listed. Conclusion The more negative values indicate a higher binding affinity. The generated ligand observations can be visualized. Physical constants of synthesized derivates such as solubility and melting point were determined. Bioactivity scores were noted for different derivatives and predicted percentage absorption in the gut. The antibacterial activity was performed using the MIC method (aerobic).

ABSTRACT The vermetidae fossils of Petaloconchus varians, formed by calcium carbonate, associated with their radiocarbon ages, are the most accurate indicators of paleo sea level due to their restricted occupation in the intertidal zone in the rocky shore. However, the recrystallization of minerals can affect these age calculations and, consequently, the interpretation of the data. The aim of this study is to present new indicators of paleo sea-level changes in Southeast Brazil for the last 6000 years contributing to fill the data gap for the late Holocene. The influence of the recrystallization process was successfully resolved using the CarDS protocol, enabling the separation of the original aragonite fraction by density, prior to radiocarbon dating. This avoids the rejuvenation of ages and ensures greater efficiency for data interpretation. Paleo sea-level indicators were able to show a progressive increase in sea level up to the transgressive maximum of 4.15 m in 3700 BP years, followed by a regression to the current zero. This regression seems to have in addition, here we reinforce the reliability of the use of fossil vermetids as indicators of sea-level fluctuations.

The actuation of silicone/ethanol soft composite material-actuators is based on the phase change of ethanol upon heating, followed by the expansion of the whole composite, exhibiting high actuation stress and strain. However, the low thermal conductivity of silicone rubber hinders uniform heating throughout the material, creating overheated damaged areas in the silicone matrix and accelerating ethanol evaporation. This limits the actuation speed and the total number of operation cycles of these thermally-driven soft actuators. In this paper, we showed that adding 8 wt.% of diamond nanoparticle-based thermally conductive filler increases the thermal conductivity (from 0.190 W/mK to 0.212 W/mK), actuation speed and amount of operation cycles of silicone/ethanol actuators, while not affecting the mechanical properties. We performed multi-cyclic actuation tests and showed that the faster and longer operation of 8 wt.% filler material-actuators allows collecting enough reliable data for computational methods to model further actuation behavior. We successfully implemented a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network model to predict the actuation force exerted in a uniform multi-cyclic actuation experiment. This work paves the way for a broader implementation of soft thermally-driven actuators in various robotic applications.

In situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction was used to study a deformed Cu-0.88 Fe-0.24 P alloy during heating process. The measurements were performed at room temperature and also at high temperatures up to 893 K in order to determine the recovery, ageing and recrystallization process. With the increase of temperature, the angles of copper matrix peaks moved left and the FWHM (full width at half maximum) decreased slightly. Fe3P precipitates were first detected at 533 K, reached the maximum at 673 K, and re-dissolved into matrix at 853 K. A dramatic decrease in FWHM was observed accompanied by the precipitation of Fe3P phases, indicating the reduction of lattice distortion of copper matrix.

Abstract A lot of researchers are closely related with natural, lignocellulose fibre containing bio-composites production and studies. Various of polymer matrices, mainly polyolefins, combinations with natural fibres as a reinforcement are used. Our studies are focused on polypropylene based bio-composites containing birch plywood production by-product sanding dust (PSD) accelerated weathering processes. The obtained results showed the following sight. After the aging the surface of all samples had faded, the changes of the gloss (decreasing) and of the whiteness degree (increasing) also had taken place, but microhardness of the surface of specimens significantly has decreased. The tensile strength and modulus of the samples after UV aging diminished about 30–35%. That indicates to the changes not only in the surface layers of polymer but also inside of the polymer structure. The FTIR measurements showed that during UV aging process occurs significant changes of chemical structure of the weathered surface of all samples. DSC measurements showed an increase of degree of crystallinity of the weathered polypropylene composites after the first heating due to the recrystallization process in the polypropylene matrix and a small decreasing after second heating. The melting temperatures of all composites after UV aging considerably diminish up to 30°C.

AbstractAllanite is a common accessory mineral in igneous rocks. Allanite becomes metamict over geological time-scales as a result of the α-decay of radioactive elements in the crystal structure. This study focuses on the recrystallization of metamict allanite from Savvushka, Russia. The structural recovery produced by annealing was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. A kinetic analysis is presented that shows that the recrystallization process proceeds by at least two different mechanisms.
