Objective: provide new background in relation to the factor structure and reliability of the factors identified from the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – Student (UWES-S) in students of health careers in Chile. Methods: A quantitative study with relational analytical scope was carried out, through a non-experimental cross-sectional design through a survey. 898 university students selected through non-probabilistic sampling by groups belonging to Medicine, Kinesiology, Pharmacy and Speech and language therapy. The students responded the UWES-S and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The total sample was randomly subdivided into two subsamples. With the first one, an Exploratory Factor Analysis was performed, using the method of extraction of the Main Axis Analysis. With the second one, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed, using the maximum likelihood method and the following indices: Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) and the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA). Also the Cronbach alpha reliability of each item was calculated. For data processing STATA 11 SE statistical package was used. Results: Kaiser-Guttman criterion and the Horn’s Parallel Analysis aimed to the existence of two factors called Involvement with studies and Enthusiasm for the career. CFI, TLI and RMSEA show that this is one of the solutions with best fit. Conclusion: Two factors were identified called Involvement with studies and Enthusiasm for the career. Neither the solution obtained nor the previous solutions showed an adequate adjustment to the data. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that this is one of the solutions with best fit. This study aims to validate Korean versions of the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, testing for its factor pattern validity through Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, reliability, and convergent and discriminant validity. The 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale was translated according to the guidelines of the International Test Commission and tested with two Korean samples. First, the Exploratory Factor Analysis found that both two-factor and three-factor solutions were viable options with the first sample. Second, comparison validations of these two solutions were tested by confirming the dimensionality of their structures through the Confirmatory Factor Analyses with the second sample, with the conclusion that the three-factor model solution was the most parsimonious model. Finally, the three-factor model of the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale was demonstrated to have good discriminant validity and convergent validity, as well as internal consistency of its subscales.

Abstract: This research was aimed to develop an instrument which can measure employee engagement score, which is based on Schaufeli’s theoretical framework. The previous instrument which was called Utretch Work Engagement Scale (UWES) was developed using content and construct validity. The content validity test was done by assessing some experts and using Aiken’s V, while construct validity was proved by item total correlation and factor analysis. Content validity test was conducted by getting input from fifteen experts in Psychology to evaluate the contents of 32 items. The Aiken’s V was used to evaluate the coefficient of each items (in which good range was from 0,645 to 0,98). The overall internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach alpha which showed the coefficient of reliability of 0,934 after deleting the items below 0,4, whereby leaving only 22 items for conducting the construct validity. Confirmatory factor analysis was done using factor analysis. 135 staffs in one of Plantation Company in Balikpapan were participated in this study. The confirmatory factor analyses produced a cross loading factors between three aspects of employee engagement which after confirming back to blueprint remaining only 8 items, which is distributed into 4 items for vigor, 2 items each for dedication and absorption.

This study discussed about work engagement of nurses who experienced work-life imbalance and how the support from supervisor, coworker, organization, and family impacting it. This study aims to examined the moderating effect of social support in relation of work-life imbalance and nurses’ engagement and also evaluate the role of social support’s dimensions. A total of 120 nurses with a diploma in nursing participated in this study. They were working in nursing activities and lived with family as daily basis. The study was using adapted form of UWES-9, Industrial Society’s Work-Life, and CESS questionnaires. Measurement being done with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method and measurement model using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with Lisrel 10.0. Structural model testing showed that work-life imbalance significantly correlated with work engagement (r=-0.24, normed c2<2.00, RMSEA<0.05), and no significant moderating effect of social support was found. Only support from coworker moderated the work-life imbalance and work engagement of nurses (r=0.20, normedc2<2.00, RMSEA<0.05), and neither support from supervisor, organization, and family show any significant correlations as moderating variables. As conclusion, hypotheses was tested and confirmed. The findings showed work-life imbalance negatively correlated with work engagement, and support from coworker can help buffer the impact of imbalanced work-life condition on nurses’ engagement. The other dimensions of social support show no significant correlations.

Despite wide-spread use, questions remain about the dimensionality of the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). Theoretical underpinnings of the UWES-9 point toward a hierarchical structure with a general factor and three group or primary factors: Dedication, Vigor, and Absorption. To date, researchers have failed to model the general factor, which contributes to the lack of consensus about the dimensionality of the scale. Bi-factor analysis was used to demonstrate the presence of a very strong general factor and, in comparison, two weak group factors. The results shed additional light on the meaning of the work engagement construct. The implications for research with the UWES-9 are discussed.

Using a scale in different cultural contexts requires an adaptation process for the sake of fair comparison between obtained scores. The 9-item version of Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) has been adapted in various countries but Indonesia. This study aimed to make a scale adaptation of the UWES-9 in Indonesia. A hundred teachers of inclusive schools in Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, and Malang were involved as participants. Data were collected both online and paper-based. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Rasch test were used to analyze the data. Result showed that the UWES-9 had high values of: overall person and item interaction (α= .85); person reliability (= .71); and item reliability (= .95). The person measure value (=1.65 logit) and separation value 1.57 indicated two respondent groups based on the degree of work engagement. The item 5 had outfit value MNSQ > 14, meaning that it was unfit. Some items were found biased toward teaching duration in inclusive school. Internal structure analysis using CFA showed that UWES-9 is a unidimensional instrument with established goodness of fit value (RMSEA = .049; CFI, NFI, & GFI > .95). To conclude, UWES-9 has adequate psychometric properties, so it can be used for research or assessment.

Research Problem / Aim The aim of this study was to introduce the psychometric properties of the Student Engagement Scale for Online Learning which was used to measure the engagement of students in online learning environment by using the validity and reliability study in the sample of university students who took lessons online. Method There were studies conducted with the scale in Turkey. However, this study carried out with a sample of students who meet the requirement of taking online course. Original scale consists of three sub-dimensions. Name of the sub-dimensions are “Behavioral Engagement”, “Emotional Engagement” and “Cognitive Engagement”. The psychometric properties of the instrument were presented by translation, linguistic equivalence, validity and reliability studies. Translation to Turkish of the scale was made by the researchers. A preliminary form was formed by taking the opinions of a total of six experts that one of them from the department of ELT (English language teaching), one of them from educational measurement & evaluation, one of them from Turkish language teaching, one of them from education psychology, and two of them were educational technology. For linguistic equivalence, the preliminary form was applied to 20 ELT students. The correlation analysis show that the linguistic equivalence of the scale had shown significant correlation between the Turkish and English forms. After the linguistic equivalence was provided, last form of the scale was applied to 587 university students enrolled at the Vocational School of Technical Sciences, Amasya University. Results and Conclusions As a result of the analyzes, confirmatory factor analysis fit indices was calculated as Χ2/sd: 2.827, GFI: .93, AGFI: .91, CFI: .98, NFI: .97, RMSEA: .05 and SRMR: .06. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients that calculated for the reliability of the sub-dimensions were between .71 and .86. The results obtained from confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analyses was indicated that the scale is reliable and valid. It is suggested to use the scale in determining the student's engagement in online learning environments research. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. Özet Araştırma Problemi/Amaç Bu çalışmanın amacı, çevrimiçi öğrenme ortamlarında öğrencilerin öğrenme ortamına bağlılıklarını ölçmek için “Çevrimiçi Öğrenmede Öğrenci Bağlılığı Ölçeği”nin çevrimiçi ders almış üniversite öğrencileri örnekleminde geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasının yapılarak psikometrik özelliklerinin ortaya konulmasıdır.
