AbstractThe human body's structure is remarkable in that it is basically uniform across the populations. Apart from a few dissimilarities in skin color and external features, at the visceral and microscopic levels, man is unusually identical. Minor ethnic variations, both acquired or congenital and atavistic traits apart, human morphology is universal.In this brief communication I present and discuss an observation made on the position of the free upper limb in the erect adult. It is seen that body weight influences forelimb position. In the stout, stocky and overweight, the upper limb is at rest, held medially rotated (axially); the degree of axial rotation being directly related to the increase in body weight.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of protein intake during pregnancy on postpartum weight variation. This was a prospective cohort study with 421 women interviewed at 15 days (baseline) and 2, 6, and 9 months postpartum. Data on diet were obtained using the food frequency questionnaire, focusing on the second and third trimesters. Protein intake was considered adequate when women consumed > 1.2g of protein per kg body weight, and inadequate when < 1.2g/kg. The study adopted the mixed effects model for repeated measurements over time. The results showed a mean postpartum weight loss of 0.409kg/month (±0.12) (p < 0.01). Women with adequate protein intake during pregnancy lost an additional 0.094kg/month (±0.04) during postpartum (p = 0.03) when compared to women with inadequate intake. The model was adjusted for energy, % body fat, stature, age, schooling, skin color, and smoking. Recommended protein intake during pregnancy favored postpartum weight reduction.

ABSTRACTWhen economic returns from current and future generation gains are comparable in magnitude, selection decisions should take account of both sources of gain. A combined selection index is devised to maximize the present value of discounted returns from all sources. The index depends on genetic and phenotypic variances and covari-ances, population structure, discount rate and the relation of annual returns to individual traits. The combined index can be regarded as the sum of separate indices maximizing returns from each source. The method is illustrated with a simple example using wool weight and body weight in sheep.

This study aimed to identify the diversity of qualitative and morphometric traits of Kampung chickens based on the comb-types in Lombok Island. Four hundred and seventeen Kampung chickens that are maintained traditionally were used in this study. The method used was a survey. The determination of location was done by purposive sampling, and samples taken were selected by random sampling. Qualitative data included comb-type, fur color, skin color, and foot color. Morphometric data included comb height, shank length, tibia length, femur length, the distance between pubic bones, the distance between the pubic bone and breastbone and body weight. Data were analyzed using simple statistical analysis. The results show that there were 4 (four) types of comb namely walnut comb (36.45 percent), single (30.45 percent), pea (24.46 percent) and rose (8.64 percent). Fur colors found were black, golden, striated and white. White fur color was only found in pea combs. The earlobe colors were red and white. Shank colors were black, white and yellow. The skin colors were yellow and white. The highest morphometrics of Kampung chicken was found in chickens with the type of rose comb which showed comb height of 12.16 + 2.78mm, shank length of 74.26 + 11.62mm, tibia length of 88.47 + 11.87mm, femur length of 82.11 + 12.45mm, distance of two pubic bones of  35.95 + 7.32mm), distance between the pubic bone and breastbone of 54.74 + 9.86mm and body weight of 1658.19 + 339.63gram.

KUB-2 line of chicken has improved local chicken selected from the KUB-1 chicken line. KUB-2 was selected for more egg production and yellow shank. KUB-1 chicken has 64% various of black feather color, which sometimes tends to have unpreferred dark carcass. Yellow shank color has a positive correlation with the skin color of carcass. As many as 517 pullets of KUB-2 at 4th generation were divided into two groups of 194 pullets of KUB-2kk (yellow shank) and 323 pullets of KUB-2nk non-yellow shank). The chickens were raised intensively in the individual cages for the 24 weeks observation. Variables measured were age at first egg (AFE) bodyweight at first egg (BWFE), egg weight at first egg (EWFE), average egg weight (AEW), average egg production (AEP) during 24 weeks, feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 25-43 weeks of age, and mortality. The result showed that there was no statistically significant different (p>0.05) between KUB-2nk and KUB-2kk respectively for AFE of 156.2 d and 158.1 d, for BWFE of 1788 g and 1808 g, for EWFE of 31.32 g and 31.34 g, for AEP24 of 103.3 eggs or 61.5% and 101.9 eggs or 60.7%, and for FCR25-43 of 3.53 and 3.54. AEW increased with increasing age of hen, the mortality of the whole population was 0.98%.

<p class="abstrak2">The study was carried out at Chittagong district of Bangladesh with a predesigned well-structured questionnaire to know the baseline information of indigenous sheep and effects of protein supplementations on fertility. Three iso-caloric but different graded levels of protein containing rations were supplied to the three different groups of sheep in three locations. The morphometric traits of sheep such as hair length, ear length, tail length, body length and quantitative trait, body weight in the location 3were higher than the other two locations. Hair length of male (1.91±0.01cm) was longer than female whereas the average body length, tail length and body weight of females were higher than the males. All the correlation values was positive, where the highest value was observed among the body weight, body length and withers height (r=0.73) and the lowest value was observed in between chest girth and ear length (r=0.25). Considering the qualitative traits percentage of plain coat color, non-pigmented skin color, brown coat color and semi-pendulous ear found maximum than others and the values were 54.21%, 69.16%, 45.79%, 57.01%, respectively. The semen volume, sperm counts, percentages of normal and viable sperm were higher in treatment 2 than the other two groups. The present study concluded that there is an influence of protein supplementation on reproductive performance especially semen profile in ram and this outcome will create a new horizon of sheep production in Bangladesh.</p>

Vacuolated cells in the liver of young rats were studied by light and electron microscopy following the administration of vitamin A (200 units per gram of body weight). Their characteristics were compared with similar cells found in untreated animals.In rats given vitamin A, cells with vacuolated cytoplasm were a prominent feature. These cells were found mostly in a perisinusoidal location, although some appeared to be in between liver cells (Fig. 1). Electron microscopy confirmed their location in Disse's space adjacent to the sinusoid and in recesses between liver cells. Some appeared to be bordering the lumen of the sinusoid, but careful observation usually revealed a tenuous endothelial process separating the vacuolated cell from the vascular space. In appropriate sections, fenestrations in the thin endothelial processes were noted (Fig. 2, arrow).
