A series of poly(thioether)s containing silicon atom with unconventional fluorescence were synthesized via successive thiol click reaction at room temperature. Although rigid π-conjugated structure did not exist in the polymer chain, the poly(thioether)s exhibited excellent fluorescent properties in solutions and showed visible blue fluorescence in living cells. The strong blue fluorescence can be attributed to the aggregation of lone pair electron of heteroatom and coordination between heteroatom and Si atom. In addition, the responsiveness of poly(thioether) to metal ions suggested that the selectivity of poly(thioether) to Fe3+ ion could be enhanced by end-modifying with different sulfhydryl compounds. This study further explored their application in cell imaging and studied their responsiveness to Fe3+ in living cells. It is expected that the described synthetic route could be extended to synthesize novel poly(thioether)s with superior optical properties. Their application in cell imaging and ion detection will broaden the range of application of poly(thioether)s.

AbstractScanning-tunneling spectroscopy experiments have been performed on conjugated polymer films and have been compared to a three-dimensional numerical model for charge injection and transport. It is found that field enhancement near the tip apex leads to significant changes in the injected current, which can amount to more than an order of magnitude, and can even change the polarity of the dominant charge carrier. As a direct consequence, the single-particle band gap and band alignment of the organic material can be directly obtained from tip height-voltage (z-V) curves, provided that the tip has a sufficiently sharp apex.

Novel electrically conducting polymeric materials are prepared in this work. Polythiophene (PT) and poly (3-Methelthiophene) (P3MT) films were prepared by electro-polymerization method using cyclic voltammetry in acetonitrile as a solvent and lithium tetrafluoroborate as the electrolyte on a gold electrode. Electrical properties of P3MT have been examined in different environments using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and quantum mechanical ab initio calculations, The observed absorption peaks at 314 and 415 nm, were attributed to the n-π* and π-π* transitions, respectively in the conjugated polymer chain, in contrast, the observed absorbance peak at 649 nm, is responsible for electric conduction. The temperature dependence of the conductivity can be fitted to the Arrhenius and the VTF equations in different temperature ranges.

Herein, we report the dissolution of CN in environment-friendly methane sulfonic acid and the homogeneous photocatalysis driven by CN for the first time with the activity boosted up to 10-times, comparing to the heterogeneous counterparts. Moreover, facile recycling and reusability, the hallmark of heterogeneous catalysts, were kept for the homogeneous CN photocatalyst via reversible precipitation using poor solvents. It opens new vista of CN in homogeneous catalysis and offers a successful example of polymeric catalysts in bridging gaps of homo/heterogeneous catalysis.

N-Heterocyclic compounds like 1,2,3-triazoles serve as a key scaffolds among organic compounds having diverse applications in the field of drug discovery, bioconjugation, material science, liquid crystals, pharmaceutical chemistry and solid phase organic synthesis. Various drugs containing 1,2,3-triazole ring which are commonly available in market includes Rufinamide, Cefatrizine, Tazobactam etc., Stability to acidic/basic hydrolysis along with significant dipole moment support triazole moiety for appreciable participation in hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole interactions with biological targets. Huisgen 1,3-dipolar azide-alkyne cycloaddition culminate into a mixture of 1,4 and 1,5- disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. In 2001, Sharpless and Meldal came across with a copper(I) catalyzed regioselective synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles by cycloaddition between azides and terminal alkynes. This azide-alkyne cycloaddition has been labelled as a one of the important key click reaction. Click synthesis describes chemical reactions that are simple to perform, gives high selectivity, wide in scope, fast reaction rate and high yields. Click reactions are not single specific reaction, but serve as a pathway for construction of simple to complex molecules from a variety of starting materials. In the last few decades, 1,2,3-triazoles attracted attention of researchers all over the world because of their broad spectrum of biological activities. Keeping in view the biological importance of 1,2,3-triazole, in this review we focus on the various synthetic routes for the syntheisis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. This review involves various synthetic protocols which involves copper and non-copper catalysts, different solvents as well as substrates. It will boost synthetic chemists to explore new pathway for the development of newer biologically active 1,2,3-triazoles.
