AbstractTo design a more robust artifact, an artifact design based on a design rationale analysis is pivotal. Errors in previous design rationales that led to the degradation of artifact robustness in the past provide valuable knowledge towards improving the robust design. However, methods for exposing and analysing errors in design rationale remain unclear. This paper proposes a structured method for a design rationale analysis based on logical structuring. This method provides a well-constructed means of identifying and analysing errors in design rationale from the perspective of knowledge operation.

The aim of this study was to assess and model the evolution of the hypsometric relationship in Araucaria angustifolia plantations grown in the 1940's and 1960's in the Irati National Forest, in the mid-south region of Paraná state, Brazil. Using the complete stem analysis method, it was possible to reconstitute the past annual growth of the diameter at 1.3 m (d) and of the total height (h) of a sample of 30 trees, selected so as to cover diametric and age variability. Eleven discs were removed from each tree at 0.1 and 1.3 m and at 15, 25, 35,..., 95% of the total height. Eleven models traditionally used in hypsometric relationships were tested, two of which were considered generic because they involved the age variable. The models were selected based on the Adjusted Coefficient of Determination (R²Adj), Standard Estimate Error (Syx), absolute (m) and relative (%), and on the graphic distribution of residues in percentage. In the models tested by age, no tendencies were observed and erros (Syx) remained below 14.6%, except for ages 5 and 11. However, the coefficients of determination were low, ranging from 0.29 to 0.55. The Curtis generic model (1970), selected to represent the h/d curve for all ages, also presented a satisfactory performance (R²Adj = 0.87 and Syx = 16%), with results similar to those obtained for the models in each age. As age increases, the h/d curve shifts to the right and changes level, remaining steep at the younger ages and more stable and flat as the population nears the end of its cycle.

The dynamic pile driving process is so complex that till now the analysis on the process had been focusing on the filed test or laboratory test. However, the past study about the dynamic process is a time consuming one; with the computational method development, the numerical simulation on this process is possible. In this paper, explicit dynamical analysis method is adopted, the pile is simulated using the elastic solid element, two computational cases are considered and finally the pile driving process dynamical stress is studied.

The Advertising Expenditures or (ADEX) revenue is a major contributor for the survival of magazine publishing. In the recent report by the Magazine Publisher Association (MPA 2014) shows a total of RM207.8 million ADEX was successfully secured by the local publishing company. From the total amount, RM120.9 million was dominated by English-language magazine publishers, while only RM60.1 million was achieved by Malay-language magazine publishers. This paper will discuss on factors, as well as potential and challenges in this magazine publishing industry. The main question is, how the local magazine publisher now is ready to face the changes in the industry which is seen to be challenging. The secondary analysis method has been applied to the data from the latest ADEX report which is provided by Magazine Publisher Association (MPA 2014) from 2010 to 2014 (July). The findings of this analysis indicate ADEX earning in the English-language magazines is more than the Malay-language magazines. However, ADEX for the English-language magazines has declined over the past four years, as well as the number of magazines published are less than the Malay-language magazines which are considered to be more stable even though their revenue is less. Competition with other media channels, readers’ purchasing power and preference are seen as factors contributing to this trend. Thus, it can be concluded that the Malay-language magazines are still competitive and have more stable prospects as compared to the English-language magazines, despite their low ADEX turnover.

With the victory of the Islamic Revolution, some shift in paradigm or the shift of discourse is observed in Iran. Islamic Republic System of Iran that was replaced instead of Pahlavi Regime took different discourse, behavior and function practically in addition to domestic policy at the level of foreign policy at the level of the Middle East or West of Asia and North of Africa and this approach was definitely different from the past. The discourse had a central indication of jurisprudential political Islam as the social and political protest against national Iranian radical otherness, western quasi-modernism, secularism and militarism of Pahlavism Discourse, which was created by the friction and dialectic between dominant discourses of similarity to west and discourses different from the west. In this study, 4 components and indices of anti-arrogance Islamism, monist Shiism (establishment of the Islamic Ummah), independence and anti-order orientation based on supporting Axis of Resistance against Axis of Compromise are explained as discourse components of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Middle East. The data analysis method in this study is mainly based on qualitative methods. Moreover, this study has used data description and analysis using documentary references and methods and through referring to the library and internet.

Robust design is less sensitive to the manufacturing variation and its demand for controlling the manufacturing variation can be reduced. The existing robust design techniques are limited to solve individual synthesis problems, and these methods seldom consider the problem of tolerance sensitivity. This paper presents a method for tolerance sensitivity design and evaluation. First, tolerance sensitivity robustness is analyzed and the tolerance sensitivity robust design models are developed. Then, the matrix analysis method is introduced to evaluate complex assembly relationship among design functions and parameters. The results show that compared with origional mothod, the proposed method is siutble and reliable.

Abstract Runoff generation is a complex meteorological-hydrological process influenced by many factors. We analyzed the effects of changes in precipitation and soil water storage (SWS) on runoff generation using the path-analysis method (PAM) in Xinjiang River Basin (XJRB). By using multiple trend analysis we found that precipitation, SWS and runoff in XJRB fluctuated throughout the past 30 years with no monotonic trends at both annual and seasonal scales. Further analysis demonstrated that runoff is more sensitive to precipitation than to SWS in XJRB. PAM results showed that direct influence of precipitation on runoff was seven times as large as that of SWS. Moreover, the indirect influence of precipitation on runoff through SWS accounts for 11–31% of the total influence of precipitation on runoff. This information will improve the description of precipitation and runoff relationship as well as the planning and management of water resources.

Ayse Erkmen is known for her site-specific installations and she created some of her artworks by making use of memory of the space. In these works, the artist transforms the space with its memory into an art material. By making simple but extraordinary interventions to the space, she grasps the past and memories of the space. In this way, in her works she touches the memory of the space created with a minimal reality. In her own words, the practice of the artist, standing at a point "between being an art and not being an art", brings forward the relationship between space and memory with an innovative approach. This research examines the relationship between memory and space that is especially inherent in the artist’s site-specific works. Therefore, a detailed research is carried out on the practice of the artist, who deals with this relation ship in a postmodern context. The aim of this article is to conduct a research on the relationship between space and memory in postmodern art, based on Ayse Erkmen’s site-specific works. In the research, document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was applied. In the article, it has been concluded that the relationship between space and memory in Ayşe Erkmen's works does not contain an utopian discourse. Instead without creating a nostalgic feeling, this relationship carries a postmodern context with minor narratives. Keywords: Space Memory, Postmodern Art
