Discussion of metaphor is also widely associated with proverbs. This is not surprising because metaphor is a part of figure of speech in literary theory. The aim of this research was to find out the reasons of metaphor realized in BBAJ Proverb in the way they are. Thinking and creating metaphors that human cannot escape from their environtment, because they always interact with it. The study of interactions between humans and their environment (animate and inanimate beings) is called an ecological study systemThe data sources of this research were 5 people. They are the descendants of native speakers who first lived in the village of Sabungan Julu. The research is a kind of qualitative descriptive. The data of the research focus on phrase, which contain of metaphor on BBAJ Proverb, the technique of collecting data that is used in the research is collecting or listing proverbs from Bahasa Batak Angkola Julu. From some process of communication the researcher has been listed any proverbs based on the context of interaction and communication. The results of this research as the reason of the using metaphor, the BBAJ’s Proverb used depends on the social and cultural environtment shows their identity . Results of the reason of using metaphor in BBAJ Proverb are, the microsmos reason is the most prominent reason where the percentage distribution is 52,5% while the macrocosmos reason is 47,5 %. There  is a proverb which has two reason of using metaphor in BBAJ Proverb, both macrocosmos and microsmos. The proverb is halak na lilu di alaman /pae sobanan.  From the result it can be concluded that the reason for the creation of metaphors in BBAJ Proverb is more dominated by the culture, customs, mindset and habits of the Angkola Julu people themselves (microcosmos) rather than the geographical conditions of their natural environment (macrocosmos). Keywords: Metaphor, Bahasa Batak Angkola Julu (BBAJ) Proverb, the Reason of the Using Metaphor

This study aims to reveal the stylistic used in a short story written by Kahlil Gibran entitled “Surakh al-Qubur” and also to describe the effect of it toward meaning. This is a descriptive qualitative research that used stylistic analysis to show the aesthetics side found in the short story. Based on data analysis, it was found that there are five categories of language styles in short story Surakh al-Qubur, they are: first, lexical (synonym and typical words); second, grammatical (verb and noun); third, rhetorical (alliteration, asyndeton, assonance, chiasmus, polysyndeton, and hyperbole) and figure of speech (metaphor, personification, simile, and eponym); fourth, cohesion and connectors such as al-wawu, al-fa’u, tsumma, au, and am; and fifth, character speech that can be analyzed using narration and dialogue. The influence of stylistic on meaning is that readers get the information directly or indirectly, feels sadness, gives advice, gets a picture of injustice, makes readers curious and more focused.

Abstract: This research aimed to analyze figure of speech Stylistic in Sami Yusuf’s song lyrics. The author is intrigued by the songwriter's lyrics that may occur in the life we live. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not there are any figure of speech features in Sami Yusuf's song lyrics, as well as to examine the meaning of the song lyrics found in Sami Yusuf's song lyrics. Content analysis was a part of this study. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research, and the design is qualitative research. The data was gathered through library research. The researcher is the research instrument since he or she is the main instrument in this study who collects and evaluates the data. After finishing the investigation, the researcher discovered that the most common figure of speech is personification, which has 14 data, and the least common figure of speech is paradox, which has one data. Metaphor (4 data), simile (7 data), synecdoche (10 data), metonymy (5 data), symbol (4 data), and hyperbole (5 data) are some of the other data collected. In other cases, the researcher found no figures of speech like allegory, apostrophe, understatement, or linguistic irony. The connotations of figure of speech utilized in Sami Yusuf's song lyrics are varied. Keywords: figure of speech, song lyric, stylistic

Reading assessment is a form of assessment activity carried out by educators in assessing students' reading. This study uses a phenomenological approach to explore teachers' experiences as participants in learning to read stories, read poetry and read descriptive texts in developing reading assessments. This study involved 15 Indonesian language teachers and conducted in-depth interviews about reading assessments in schools. The theories used in this research are Setiadi (2016), Abdul (2003), Tarigan (1994), Yunus (2012), Tampubolon (2015), Razak (2001), Nurhayati (2009), Djiwandono (2011), and the theory of Burhan Nurgiyantoro (2014). In-depth interview analysis in this study shows that the assessment of reading saga pays attention to the assessment of speech sounds, words, sentences, letters, language, readings, pays attention to reading pauses, sentence breaks, paragraph breaks, sentence content, letter content, punctuation marks, appreciates the content. In contrast, the construction of poetry reading assessment includes the assessment of diction sounds, sounds, letters, sentences, rhymes, rhythms, stanzas, the figure of speech, confidence, language style, appreciation. Descriptive text-based assessment is to assess the accuracy of diction (use of vocabulary, conjunctions between sentences, clarity of language sounds); the assessment of the accuracy of the sentence structure of the reading pays attention to 3 assessments, namely the arrangement of sentence patterns, stringing sentences and the form of sentences used; and assessing the spelling and writing used including the assessment of punctuation, use of capital letters. Educators can use this research recommendation on the construction of reading assessment in high school in the concept of reading assessment in schools.

Abstract In Virgil's Eclogues curses and blessings are the heritage of the Theocritean tradition, which in turn reproduced a common feature in folk poetry. But in comparison to Theocritus, who uses these topics to give his poems a folkloric flavour, the Latin poet treats them in a very different way, removing excessively vulgar phrases from his verses, and using curses and blessings in order to give voice to deep feelings on the part of his characters. Sometimes these τόποι express positive or negative hopes in a contrasting pattern (in ecl. 3. 89–91; 7. 21–28, and, first of all, 1. 59–66, which is a special case), while sometimes there is only a positive (ecl. 5. 60–61, 65 and 76–77; ecl. 9. 30–31) or negative (ecl. 8. 52–58) view. The most common figure of speech for curses and blessings is the adynaton.

However, they show significant differences in aspect of objectivity, use of figure of speech and language features, etc. Through a comparative study of the differences between The Libido for the Ugly and The Middle Eastern Bazaar, this paper aims to help readers to improve their understanding of the two texts, so as to further help readers to deepen their appreciation of the textual features of classic descriptive texts.

In situation comedies, pun is one of the most effective means of creating comic effect and takes up a considerable part. However, if incorrectly or improperly translated, it can be almost impossible for puns to get across its audience, even when the audience is somewhat capable of English. The reason is that pun, in essence, is a figure of speech, which requires certain knowledge of English literature and culture. The translation of English movies and TV series has become fairly sophisticated, but studies on the translation of pun are relatively rare. This article will introduce and study pun both in Chinese and English literature by the approach of contrast, and discuss the translation methods of puns from the perspective of functional equivalence theory; and then it will take the Chinese subtitle of the famous situation comedy series Yes, Minister as examples to analyze and study the translation methods and strategies of puns used in situation comedies.

The analysis of this novel aims to describe the intrinsic and extrinsic elements of Si Anak Pemberani (SAP) novel by Tere Liye and the implications in learning literature in junior high school. This research used descriptive qualitative with content analysis. The results show that the theme in the SAP novel is child courage to defend her village; using a progressive plot by offering the setting of the place, time, and atmosphere; the character's personality is displayed based on dramatic technique; using the main character's viewpoint; a comparative figure of speech as language style, contradiction, satire, and affirmation; there are mandates to protect the environment and love parents, as well as extrinsic elements in the form of the author's cultural, economic, religious, and political background and values displayed.

This research is about figure of speech analysis on “I am Human Too” poem by Godsplan K. Ugwuja. The purposes of this research are; 1) To describe the types of figure of speech that found on “I am Human Too” poem by Godsplan K. Ugwuja. 2) To describe how do the figure of speech convey the messages through the poem “I am Human Too” poem by Godsplan K. Ugwuja. The datum of the research is taken from words, phrases, lines or stanza of the I am Human Too poem that contain the figure of speeches. The method of this research is uses desciptive qualitative method and figure of speech theory proposed by Perrine (1992). Data are explained by find the meaning and described them based on the kinds of figure of speech through four procedure, they are: identifying, classiying, analyzing and making the conclusion from the data. The result of this research are the writer found about 9 data of figure of speech of the poem, they are; 6 data for figure of speech of hyperbole, 2 data for figure of speech of simile and 1 data for figure of speech of symbol. Hyperbole is the dominant kind of figure of speech in the poem, because hyperbole is the appropriate of figure of speech by the author to express his feeling about soldier’s lamentation. Beside, figure of speech also convey some messages through the poem, they are; 1) Informative message, it mean that we often don’t remember that our soldiers put their live on the line to protect us but we still criticize, vilify and attack them without keeping in mind that they are human too. 2) Persuasive message, it mean that let’s support them not only by good weapons but also by moral.

Structure and Didactic Value in the Themed Poetry of “Online Learning” by Class X Students at SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin. The purpose of this study was to describe the structure of poetry by class X-B students at SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin and to examine the didactic value of poetry by class X-B students at SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin. Data collection was carried out from May 30 to June 30, 2021 through an online form of poetry writing performance test. The data analyzed were 18 pieces of poetry. The data collection procedures in this study were reading, identifying, codifying, and classifying according to the research focus. Data analysis uses deep meaning understanding techniques. Checking the validity of the data is done through triangulation techniques. The results of the study found that the structure that builds a poem consists of a physical structure and an inner structure. The physical structure consists of typography, rhyme, images, figure of speech, concrete words, and diction. The inner structure consists of theme, tone, and atmosphere. After analyzing the poems by class X-B students of FKK Vocational High School Husada Banjarmasin, it was found that the poems contained the entire physical and mental structure. The didactic values contained in the poem are in the form of moral and religious didactic values. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan struktur puisi karya siswa kelas X-B SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin dan mengkaji nilai didaktis dari puisi karya siswa kelas X-B SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin. Pengumpulan data dilaksanakan 30 Mei-30 Juni 2021 melalui daring berupa tes unjuk kerja menulis puisi. Data yang dianalisis berjumlah 18 buah puisi. Prosedur pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah membaca, mengidentifikasi, mengodifikasi, dan mengklasifikasikan sesuai dengan fokus penelitian. Analisis data menggunakan teknik pemahaman arti secara mendalam. Pengecekan keabsahan data dilakukan melalui teknik triangulasi. Hasil penelitian ditemukan struktur yang membangun sebuah puisi terdiri atas struktur fisik dan struktur batin. Struktur fisik terdiri atas tipografi, rima, imaji, majas, kata konkret, dandiksi. Struktur batin terdiri atas tema, nada, dan suasana. Setelah dilakukan analisis pada puisi karya siswa kelas X-B FKK SMKS Unggulan Husada Banjarmasin diperoleh bahwa puisi-puisi tersebut memuat keseluruhan struktur fisik dan batin. Nilai didaktis yang terdapat dalam puisi tersebut berupa nilai didaktis moral dan agama. Kata-kata kunci: struktur, nilai didaktis, puisi, belajar daring, karya siswa
